Yes. SpaceX is publicly traded. Its investor-relations FAQ says the company completed its initial public offering on June 12, 2026, under the ticker SPCX, with trading venues identified as the Nasdaq Global Select Market and Nasdaq Texas. Investors buy through a broker; SpaceX says it does not offer a direct stock purchase plan.
The important comparison has changed. SpaceX is not simply another launch company: its stated businesses include rockets and spacecraft, Starlink broadband and mobile connectivity, and development of AI compute infrastructure. Public companies such as Rocket Lab, AST SpaceMobile, Intuitive Machines, Redwire and Virgin Galactic provide narrower, different forms of space-sector exposure.
What SpaceX stock represents
Buying SPCX is exposure to a group of connected but distinct businesses rather than to one product line. SpaceX’s prospectus describes the company as designing, manufacturing, launching and operating rockets and spacecraft. It also operates Starlink broadband and mobile connectivity services and is developing AI compute infrastructure.

A launch provider can be affected by vehicle reliability and launch cadence, while a satellite-network operator may be more exposed to spectrum, constellation deployment and subscriber economics. A spacecraft supplier can depend on government contracts and program milestones. SpaceX combines several of these risk and revenue drivers in one issuer, so no single peer in the comparison below is a complete substitute.

The company’s prospectus includes the explicit warning: “Investors in the shares could lose all or part of their invested capital.” That is an issuer risk disclosure, not a prediction of the probability of loss or a statement that SpaceX is unsuitable for a particular investor.
Is SpaceX publicly traded? Key facts
| Item | What the issuer information states |
|---|---|
| Public status | SpaceX completed an IPO on June 12, 2026. |
| Ticker | SPCX |
| Trading venues | Nasdaq Global Select Market and Nasdaq Texas, according to the investor-relations FAQ. |
| How shares are purchased | Through a broker. |
| Direct purchase plan | SpaceX says it does not offer one. |
| Business scope | Launch and spacecraft design, manufacturing and operations; Starlink broadband and mobile connectivity; AI compute infrastructure development. |
Exchange availability, order types, settlement and any fractional-share feature depend on the broker. The ticker and venue information should be checked in the broker’s current security lookup before an order is submitted.
How to buy SpaceX stock
The transaction process is ordinary public-market trading, but the security and venue should be verified carefully because SpaceX only became public in 2026.
- Use an account that supports the relevant market. Select a regulated brokerage account with access to the Nasdaq venue shown in the company’s FAQ. Review commissions, foreign-exchange charges if applicable, market-data fees and account minimums in that broker’s documentation.
- Search for SPCX. Confirm that the result identifies SpaceX, not an unrelated security with a similar symbol. Check the issuer name, exchange and security description.
- Choose the order type. A market order seeks immediate execution at available prices but does not guarantee a particular price. A limit order sets the highest purchase price you will accept, although it may not execute. The broker’s order ticket explains its own controls and disclosures.
- Review the order before sending it. Check share quantity, estimated value, order duration, venue and any displayed fees. A newly listed or volatile security can move materially while an order is pending.
- Confirm execution and retain records. After submission, verify whether the order filled, partially filled or remained open. Keep the confirmation and cost basis information for tax reporting.
- Read continuing disclosures. Use SpaceX filings and investor-relations updates to track operating results, financing, new share issuance and risk factors rather than relying only on a ticker quote.
Because SpaceX says it has no direct stock purchase plan, an investor cannot bypass the broker through an issuer-operated enrollment program.
Why there is no single “SpaceX alternative”
The phrase “space stock” can describe businesses with very different customers and economics. SpaceX sells or develops several types of capability: launch, spacecraft, broadband connectivity, mobile connectivity and AI-compute infrastructure. The other companies in this comparison concentrate on selected segments.
- Launch and spacecraft services: Rocket Lab is the closest operating comparison in this set, but it has a different scale and portfolio.
- Direct-to-device connectivity: AST SpaceMobile is developing a network intended to connect ordinary mobile phones beyond terrestrial coverage; it is not an orbital launch provider.
- Mission and space infrastructure: Intuitive Machines works across orbital, cislunar and deep-space environments, while Redwire supplies aerospace infrastructure, autonomous systems and defense technology.
- Human spaceflight: Virgin Galactic focuses on suborbital flights for private individuals, researchers and government agencies.
These distinctions are more useful than ranking symbols as if every company competed for the same revenue. A company can be a relevant way to express a particular space-sector view without being a like-for-like replacement for SPCX.

Publicly traded companies compared with SpaceX
| Company | Identifier and exchange established in the cited issuer material | Primary activities | How to position it against SpaceX |
|---|---|---|---|
| SpaceX | SPCX; Nasdaq Global Select Market and Nasdaq Texas | Rockets and spacecraft; Starlink broadband and mobile connectivity; AI compute infrastructure development | The broad, multi-business reference company for this comparison. |
| Rocket Lab | Ticker not stated in the cited passages; verify the current exchange listing before trading | Launch services, satellite manufacturing, spacecraft components and on-orbit management | The closest operating comparison here for launch and spacecraft services, but not an equivalent in scale or business mix. |
| AST SpaceMobile | ASTS; Nasdaq | A space-based cellular broadband network intended to connect ordinary mobile devices outside terrestrial coverage | Connectivity infrastructure exposure, not a launch business. |
| Intuitive Machines | LUNR; Nasdaq | Spacecraft, space-based networks and infrastructure services across orbital, cislunar and deep-space environments | Mission and infrastructure exposure, with economics that can differ from recurring broadband or launch operations. |
| Redwire | Ticker not stated in the cited passages; verify the current exchange listing before trading | Aerospace infrastructure, autonomous systems and defense technology, reported in Space and Defense Tech segments | Hardware and defense-technology exposure rather than a direct consumer launch or broadband analog. |
| Virgin Galactic | SPCE; NYSE | Human spaceflight for private individuals, researchers and government agencies | Space-tourism and suborbital-flight exposure, not a like-for-like launch or satellite-network peer. |
Rocket Lab: the closest launch-and-spacecraft comparison
Rocket Lab combines launch services with satellite manufacturing, spacecraft components and on-orbit management. That combination makes it the most direct operating comparison in this group when the question is how a public investor might obtain exposure to launch and spacecraft services.

It is the company’s own reported figure, accessed in 2026, and the page does not provide a separate publication date for that number. Treat it as a dated company claim to be rechecked in the current investor-relations material, not as a live operating metric.
Rocket Lab still differs materially from SpaceX. SpaceX’s disclosed scope includes Starlink connectivity and AI-compute infrastructure in addition to launch and spacecraft operations. Rocket Lab’s disclosed activities instead emphasize launch, satellite products, components and on-orbit management. A comparison should therefore examine each company’s launch cadence, backlog, customer mix, manufacturing capacity and funding needs rather than assuming that a launch mission at one company has the same economic effect as a mission at the other.
The cited passages do not establish Rocket Lab’s ticker. Confirm the current symbol and exchange in an official issuer or exchange market-data page before placing an order.
AST SpaceMobile: satellite connectivity rather than launch
AST SpaceMobile is developing a space-based cellular broadband network intended to connect ordinary mobile devices beyond terrestrial coverage. Its core investment exposure is therefore the build-out and operation of a connectivity network, not the sale of launch services.
AST SpaceMobile reported $70.9 million of revenue for full-year 2025 in its 2026 results release. The release attributed that revenue to mobile-network-operator partners and the U.S. government. Revenue already reported should be kept separate from planned constellation deployment, partner commitments or future service goals; those are not interchangeable measures.
Rank #3
Compared with SpaceX, AST SpaceMobile offers a narrower connectivity thesis. SpaceX operates Starlink broadband and mobile connectivity as part of a larger company that also designs, manufactures, launches and operates rockets and spacecraft. AST SpaceMobile’s execution questions center on network deployment, satellites, spectrum and the commercial rollout of direct-to-device service. The company’s current filings and releases should be used to assess capital requirements, launch arrangements, regulatory matters and customer concentration.
AST SpaceMobile’s established identifier is ASTS on Nasdaq. A ticker confirms the security; it does not establish a valuation, profitability level or likelihood of achieving the planned network.
Intuitive Machines: missions and infrastructure across several regimes
Intuitive Machines builds spacecraft, connects space-based networks and operates space-infrastructure services across orbital, cislunar and deep-space environments. Its activities can involve mission contracts, hardware delivery, milestones and infrastructure services, so its financial profile may look different from a company selling a large recurring consumer network.
Its LUNR shares trade on Nasdaq, according to the cited company information. When comparing LUNR with SPCX, focus on the type of mission or infrastructure being delivered, the customer and contract structure, milestone timing, remaining funding and the path from individual programs to repeatable revenue.
SpaceX’s launch and Starlink businesses provide multiple operating lines inside one issuer. Intuitive Machines is better understood as a mission, spacecraft and infrastructure exposure. A strong contract or completed milestone can be important evidence of capability, but it should not automatically be treated as recurring service revenue.
Redwire: aerospace infrastructure and defense technology
Redwire’s Form 10-K describes aerospace infrastructure, autonomous systems and defense technology, with Space and Defense Tech reportable segments. That makes Redwire relevant for investors seeking exposure to space hardware, infrastructure and defense applications, but not as a direct substitute for SpaceX’s launch network or Starlink connectivity.
Rank #4
For Redwire, useful comparison questions include the mix of government and commercial customers, program concentration, manufacturing and integration capacity, contract type, backlog conversion and the funding required to develop new systems. Those factors can produce a different risk pattern from a launch operator or a satellite-network company.
The cited passages do not establish Redwire’s ticker. Verify the live exchange identifier through an official market-data source before trading. Do not infer it from memory or from an unrelated security symbol.
Virgin Galactic: human spaceflight and suborbital tourism
Virgin Galactic centers on human spaceflight for private individuals, researchers and government agencies. Its exposure is therefore tied to suborbital flight operations, vehicle development, customer demand, safety, regulatory approvals and the cost of building and operating its fleet.
Virgin Galactic’s 2026 Form 10-K reports that it sold 33.5 million shares through its 2024 at-the-market program during 2025, raising $121.6 million in gross proceeds. This is a financing figure, not revenue or profit. Issuing shares can provide capital but can also dilute existing holders, so the filing’s share-count and financing disclosures belong in any comparison.
SPCE trades on the NYSE. Its business is not a like-for-like launch or satellite-network peer: a suborbital human-spaceflight ticket, a cargo launch and a broadband subscription have different customers, pricing, safety requirements and utilization economics.
How to compare these companies consistently
1. Identify the actual business segment
Start by writing down what the company sells. For SpaceX, that list spans launch and spacecraft operations, Starlink broadband and mobile connectivity, and AI-compute infrastructure development. For a peer, specify whether the exposure is launch, satellite manufacturing, components, direct-to-device connectivity, mission services, infrastructure, defense technology or human spaceflight. This prevents a sector label from hiding an unrelated revenue model.
Best Value
2. Separate operating evidence from plans
Completed missions, deployed satellites, delivered hardware and recognized revenue are historical evidence. A planned constellation, vehicle, service rollout or customer commitment is forward-looking. Rocket Lab’s reported satellite-delivery figure and AST SpaceMobile’s reported 2025 revenue measure different things; neither should be converted into a SpaceX-equivalent scale estimate.
3. Use dated financial information
Record the fiscal period and publication date for revenue, cash, debt, share count, capital expenditures and financing. AST SpaceMobile’s $70.9 million figure is full-year 2025 revenue reported in 2026. Virgin Galactic’s 33.5 million shares and $121.6 million gross proceeds relate to 2025 activity under a 2024 ATM program and were reported in its 2026 Form 10-K. They are not directly comparable metrics.
4. Track funding and dilution
Space businesses often require vehicles, satellites, launch capacity, ground systems and regulatory work before the associated revenue arrives. Check new share issuance, at-the-market programs, debt, convertibles, grants, customer advances and remaining cash. A financing can extend a project’s runway while reducing each existing share’s percentage ownership.

5. Assess execution and concentration risk
Read the issuer’s current risk factors rather than transferring SpaceX’s risks to every peer. Relevant issues can include launch cadence, vehicle development, constellation deployment, regulation, customer concentration, supplier dependence, mission failure, safety and capital requirements. Government contracts, mobile-network partners and private customers create different concentration profiles.
6. Add valuation only with a timestamp
A meaningful market comparison requires contemporaneous share prices, shares outstanding and a clearly stated date. The company descriptions and filings summarized here do not provide live prices, market capitalizations or valuation multiples. Do not rank these companies by “cheap” or “expensive” without collecting that data from a reliable market source and identifying whether the figures are basic or diluted.
Financial and execution risks to keep in view
- Capital loss: SpaceX’s prospectus warns that investors could lose all or part of their invested capital.
- Capital raising and dilution: New equity can finance development while reducing existing holders’ ownership percentage. Virgin Galactic’s 2025 ATM issuance illustrates why share-count changes must be tracked.
- Launch and vehicle risk: Delays, failures, limited launch cadence or vehicle-development overruns can affect both revenue timing and costs.
- Constellation and network risk: Satellite deployment, spectrum, ground infrastructure and service adoption determine whether a planned network becomes a dependable business.
- Customer and contract concentration: Dependence on a small number of government agencies, mobile operators or commercial customers can make results uneven.
- Regulatory and safety risk: Launch licenses, communications approvals, human-spaceflight rules and mission safety requirements can change schedules and operating costs.
- Market risk: Publicly traded space companies can experience large price movements unrelated to a single quarter’s operating result.
These risks differ by issuer. SpaceX’s multi-business model may diversify exposure across activities, but it also makes the company harder to analyze with one segment metric. A narrower company may be easier to map to one thesis while carrying greater dependence on a single program or funding source.
A practical research checklist before comparing or buying
- Write the intended exposure in one sentence: launch, connectivity, spacecraft, infrastructure, defense technology or human spaceflight.
- Confirm the issuer’s current ticker, exchange and share class from an official market-data or exchange source.
- Read the latest annual filing and most recent quarterly or results release.
- Separate recognized revenue from backlog, contract value, partner commitments and management targets.
- Record cash, debt, operating cash flow, planned capital spending and recent equity issuance.
- Check customer concentration, regulatory dependencies, safety disclosures and program milestones.
- Only then compare a dated market capitalization or valuation ratio, stating the price date and whether share counts are diluted.
- Decide whether the risk fits your own time horizon and loss tolerance; a sector comparison is not personalized investment advice.
Bottom line
SPCX gives public-market access to SpaceX after its June 12, 2026 IPO, but it represents a broad combination of launch, spacecraft, Starlink connectivity and AI-compute development. Rocket Lab is the closest launch-and-spacecraft comparison in this group; AST SpaceMobile represents direct-to-device connectivity; Intuitive Machines and Redwire represent mission, infrastructure and defense-technology exposure; and Virgin Galactic represents human spaceflight. Compare the underlying businesses, operating evidence, financing and risks—not just the word “space” in a company description.
