Creative and survival modes support different commitments. Creative is the place to experiment with designs without the same resource-management burden. Survival asks you to obtain materials, manage inventory, and build by hand. If the satisfaction you want comes from making a machine work, then repairing or redesigning it when damage occurs, this is the most focused option of the three.
Empyrion – Galactic Survival: a more explicit survival-crafting loop
Empyrion – Galactic Survival combines exploration, building, mining, survival, crafting, and combat in a space-and-planet sandbox. Its official overview describes block-built starships, small craft, stations, and planetary facilities, so construction spans both orbital and surface locations.

Survival needs are not a side note. The official survival description identifies oxygen and food as necessities and explains that growing food aboard a mothership requires suitable equipment. Mining, crafting, farming, construction, and combat therefore sit inside a loop where preparation and supply management affect how long you can remain active away from safety.
