Yes—if your Windows PC meets every item in Keen Software House’s minimum specification. That baseline is Windows 10 64-bit, an Intel Core i5-7600K-class processor at 3.80 GHz or higher (or AMD equivalent), 8 GB of RAM, a GeForce GTX 750 Ti or Radeon R9 270X-class graphics card, DirectX 11 and 35 GB of free hard-drive space. Keen’s recommended tier raises the target to a quad-core i7-class CPU at 4.5 GHz or higher, 16 GB of RAM and a GeForce GTX 1070 or Radeon RX Vega 56-class GPU. Meeting the minimum gets you inside the published compatibility floor; it does not promise a particular frame rate, resolution, graphics preset, world size or mod load.
Space Engineers requirements at a glance
The most authoritative specification is Keen Software House’s current system-requirements page. Use the minimum column as an all-or-nothing checklist: a faster processor cannot compensate for an unsupported graphics card, and extra storage does not make up for insufficient RAM. The recommended column is a safer target for demanding worlds and multiplayer, but real performance still varies with simulation complexity, player count, settings and mods.

These are published hardware classes, not an FPS guarantee. Keen does not attach a target frame rate, resolution or preset to either tier. A machine that just clears the minimum may need conservative settings, especially in large or heavily populated simulations.
Can my PC run Space Engineers?
Check your computer against each row rather than comparing only one headline specification. The following Windows checks provide the information you need.

- Confirm the operating system. Open Settings > System > About and read System type. The published baseline is Windows 10 64-bit. A 32-bit installation is outside that specification.
- Identify the CPU. In the same About page, read Processor. Record the model and its advertised clock; compare the model class and frequency with the i5-7600K minimum or quad-core i7 4.5 GHz recommendation. “Intel Core i5” alone is not enough because generations differ substantially.
- Check installed memory. Open Settings > System > About and read Installed RAM, or press
Ctrl+Shift+Esc, choose Performance and select Memory. You need at least 8 GB for the minimum tier and 16 GB for the recommended tier. - Find the graphics card. In Task Manager’s Performance tab select GPU. You can also run
dxdiagfrom the Start menu and inspect the Display tab. Compare the discrete GPU model with the GTX 750 Ti/R9 270X minimum class or GTX 1070/RX Vega 56 recommended class. If a laptop lists integrated and discrete GPUs, note which one games will use. - Verify DirectX. Run
dxdiagand read the DirectX Version line on the System tab. The requirement is DirectX 11. - Measure free space on the installation drive. Open File Explorer > This PC, locate the drive where Steam will install the game and confirm at least 35 GB free. Leave additional headroom for updates and normal Windows operation rather than filling the drive to its limit.
Your PC is within the publisher’s stated floor only when every minimum row is satisfied. If one component falls below it, treat the system as unsupported even when the other parts are much faster.
What each requirement means
Operating system: Windows 10 64-bit
Windows 10 64-bit is the operating-system baseline listed by Keen. The requirement describes the edition and architecture, not merely the presence of a Windows license. Check the exact architecture in Settings > System > About. If your PC runs a different Windows release, do not assume compatibility from the hardware table alone; the published specification names Windows 10 64-bit.

Processor: clock speed and core class both matter
The minimum reference is an Intel Core i5-7600K running at 3.80 GHz or higher, or an AMD equivalent. The recommended reference is a quad-core Intel Core i7 at 4.5 GHz or higher, or an AMD equivalent. These labels combine generation, core design and clock speed. A newer CPU with a lower advertised frequency can still be a sensible equivalent, but the table does not define a universal equivalence test. Compare the actual model, not just the words “i5,” “i7” or “Ryzen.”

Processor demand can rise when a world contains many moving grids, mechanical parts, scripts or players. The published requirements do not quantify those workloads, so the recommended CPU is a prudent target rather than a promise of a fixed simulation speed.
Memory: 8 GB is the floor, 16 GB is the safer target
Space Engineers lists 8 GB RAM minimum and 16 GB recommended. RAM is shared by the game, Windows, drivers and other applications. Closing browsers, launchers and background programs can reduce contention, but it cannot turn a machine with less than 8 GB into a compliant system. If you regularly use large worlds or mods, 16 GB leaves substantially more room for the game and the operating system than the minimum tier.
Graphics: GTX 750 Ti/R9 270X minimum, GTX 1070/RX Vega 56 recommended
The minimum graphics references are NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti or AMD Radeon R9 270X, or higher. The recommended references are GeForce GTX 1070 or Radeon RX Vega 56, or higher. “Higher” is not determined by model number alone: compare independent performance class, VRAM and the exact laptop or desktop version. An integrated GPU should not be assumed to equal one of the named discrete cards.

The graphics requirement says nothing about a guaranteed resolution, preset or FPS. A card that meets the minimum may run the game while requiring lower visual settings, and a recommended-class card can still encounter slowdowns in a very complex simulation.
DirectX 11
DirectX 11 is the graphics API named in both tiers. Windows normally supplies the runtime components, but an up-to-date operating system and graphics driver help avoid initialization errors. Confirm the version with dxdiag before troubleshooting the game itself.
Storage: 35 GB free HDD space
Keen specifies 35 GB of free hard-drive space. This is capacity, not a statement that an HDD is faster or preferable to an SSD. An SSD may change loading behavior, but it does not lower the 35 GB requirement and the published page does not promise a loading-time improvement. Check free space on the actual Steam library drive, not merely the drive containing Windows.

Why Steam may show different minimum wording
Steam’s listing uses a slightly different minimum CPU and GPU description: an Intel i5 at 3.0 GHz or higher and a GeForce 750 or Radeon R9 270X or higher. It still lists 8 GB RAM, DirectX 11 and 35 GB of storage. Keen’s current requirements page is the better primary reference, including its more specific i5-7600K at 3.80 GHz and GTX 750 Ti wording.
Seeing both versions does not mean there are two editions of the game with separate hardware rules. It reflects different wording on two official listings. When your PC sits near the boundary, use Keen’s more detailed specification and avoid treating the less specific Steam wording as a performance guarantee. The Steam page also shows a 28 February 2019 release date; that date identifies the listing’s release information, not a newer requirements revision.

Keen says a Steam or Xbox account and an internet connection are required to install Space Engineers. After installation, single-player does not require an internet connection. For multiplayer, Keen recommends an internet connection of 5 Mbit/s or more. That figure is a recommendation, not a guarantee that every connection with that speed will be trouble-free: latency, packet loss, Wi-Fi conditions, server load and the number of players also affect online play.

- Installing: sign in to the platform account that owns the game, select a library drive with at least 35 GB free and allow the download and installation to complete.
- Playing offline: once installation and any platform authentication steps are complete, single-player can be played without an active internet connection.
- Playing online: plan for at least the recommended 5 Mbit/s connection and use a stable link; bandwidth alone does not describe network quality.
What performance the requirements do—and do not—tell you
The minimum and recommended rows establish compatibility targets, not benchmark results. No authoritative figure in the published specifications states FPS at 1080p, 1440p or 4K, nor does it tie either tier to a particular graphics preset. Do not infer a guaranteed frame rate from the GPU names.

A small single-player scenario may behave very differently from a server with numerous ships, moving blocks, scripts and players. Mods can add further load. For that reason, “my PC meets recommended” is best read as “my PC has the safer general hardware target,” not “every world will maintain a fixed FPS.”
If your PC is below the minimum
Upgrade the component that actually misses the requirement instead of replacing parts indiscriminately. Use this order as a decision guide:
- Graphics shortfall: compare a graphics-card upgrade first when the GPU is below the GTX 750 Ti/R9 270X class. Check power supply capacity, case clearance, display outputs and motherboard compatibility before buying.
- Processor shortfall: if the CPU is below the i5-7600K-class minimum, investigate the socket, chipset and BIOS support before selecting a replacement. A CPU upgrade may require a new motherboard and, sometimes, new memory.
- Memory shortfall: under 8 GB is below the minimum. Confirm whether the motherboard has an open slot and whether existing modules can be matched. Aim for 16 GB if you want the recommended memory tier.
- Storage shortfall: if the installation drive has less than 35 GB free, remove or move files, choose another library drive or add capacity. Storage expansion does not correct an underpowered CPU or GPU.
- Operating-system or API shortfall: verify the Windows architecture and DirectX version before spending on hardware. A hardware upgrade cannot change a 32-bit operating-system installation into the stated 64-bit baseline.
For a laptop, check whether RAM and storage are upgradeable and whether the game can select a discrete GPU. On a desktop, include the power supply and physical dimensions in any graphics-card decision. Do not buy a generic “gaming GPU” on the assumption that it guarantees a particular FPS; the rest of the system and the world workload still matter.
Troubleshooting when a compliant PC will not launch
- Recheck every requirement, especially the active GPU, free space and 64-bit Windows architecture.
- Close other demanding programs and restart Windows so available memory and driver services are refreshed.
- Run
dxdiagand confirm DirectX 11 is reported without errors. - Install current drivers supplied for your exact graphics-card model and restart the computer.
- In Steam, use the game’s Properties menu and run the platform’s file-integrity verification. If the installation drive is nearly full, free additional space before repeating the check.
- If only multiplayer fails, test the connection separately from single-player. Compare your measured bandwidth with the 5 Mbit/s recommendation and look for latency or packet-loss symptoms rather than assuming the PC hardware is at fault.
If the machine is below a minimum row, resolve that hardware or operating-system gap first. Software troubleshooting cannot make an unsupported component meet the publisher’s specification.
Bottom line
Space Engineers can run on a Windows 10 64-bit PC with an i5-7600K-class 3.80 GHz CPU, 8 GB RAM, GTX 750 Ti/R9 270X-class graphics, DirectX 11 and 35 GB free space, provided every minimum item is met. For a more forgiving setup, target a quad-core i7-class 4.5 GHz CPU, 16 GB RAM and GTX 1070/RX Vega 56-class graphics. Treat those figures as compatibility guidance, not an FPS promise, and judge any upgrade by the specific component your PC is missing.
