Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) has completed two satellite environmental test chambers at its Space Center in Sacheon, South Gyeongsang Province. The electromagnetic and acoustic chambers were completed in August 2026, and KAI held a completion ceremony on October 12. The company says the facilities let it bring satellite design, manufacturing, assembly and environmental testing together at one site. The Asia Business Daily reports that KAI expects this arrangement to reduce transportation burdens, development time and costs associated with outside testing; it has not published figures showing realized savings.

What the two test chambers do

The new facilities reproduce different environmental challenges satellites encounter or must withstand. One checks electromagnetic behavior; the other exposes a satellite to launch-like acoustic noise. The October announcement did not provide chamber dimensions, test standards or performance specifications.

Electromagnetic chamber

This chamber is used to check interference among equipment mounted on a satellite and whether that equipment can resist interference. These checks address the compatibility of satellite systems operating together. The Asia Business Daily describes the chamber’s purpose but does not identify particular tests or standards.

Acoustic chamber

This chamber recreates the intense noise associated with launch so engineers can assess a satellite’s structural safety. The report does not state the acoustic levels used or other technical parameters. The Asia Business Daily

What changes at KAI’s Sacheon site

KAI says it can now carry out satellite development stages—from design and manufacturing through assembly and environmental testing—at its Space Center in Sacheon. Previously, reliance on external testing facilities could entail transporting satellites or components elsewhere. KAI expects its integrated, one-site workflow to reduce that burden, shorten development time and lower costs associated with outside testing. Those are expected benefits, not quantified results: the announcement provides no measured savings or before-and-after development timelines. The Asia Business Daily

A KAI official, whose name and role were not specified in the report, said: “With the completion of these satellite environmental testing facilities, we now have a one-stop integrated system that enables us to carry out every stage of satellite development independently.”

How this fits KAI’s satellite work

KAI has participated in Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite programs, including spacecraft-body development, according to its Korea Multi Purpose Satellite business page. That background establishes the company’s existing involvement in satellite programs; it does not show that any named spacecraft has been tested in the new chambers.

A separate CHOSUNBIZ report from July 2026 says KAI can produce more than 100 microsatellites annually. This is a reported production capability, not a verified annual output, and the October facility completion does not establish a resulting increase in capacity.

What has not been disclosed

The available reports do not state the chambers’ technical specifications, applicable standards, cost, supplier or operational test results. They also do not quantify any reduction in transport, time or external testing expense. The completion confirms new testing infrastructure at Sacheon and KAI’s stated plan for a one-site development workflow; it does not by itself establish measured effects on production or costs.
