Best current match: Soup ‘n Fresh in Rancho Cucamonga or Chino Hills is the closest documented replacement for Souplantation’s soup-and-salad format. Its all-you-can-eat offering includes soup, salad, bakery items, pasta and dessert; the Chino Hills menu lists $17.99 lunch and $19.99 dinner before tax, with beverages extra.
Sweet Tomatoes is another close-format option, with operating restaurants in Tucson, Arizona, and Fort Myers, Florida. Its official FAQ lists weekday lunch under $13 and dinner under $14, with lunch from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and dinner beginning at 4 p.m. Souplantation itself is not currently open: a 2026 report says a Fountain Valley, California, reopening is planned for 2027. Other choices below are broader buffets, salad-bar possibilities or limited-time deals rather than exact substitutes.

1. Soup ‘n Fresh: the closest currently documented replacement
If your priority is the combination of soup, a build-your-own salad, bakery items, pasta and dessert, start with Soup ‘n Fresh. Its official site describes an all-you-can-eat experience and lists restaurants in Rancho Cucamonga and Chino Hills in California’s Inland Empire.
#1 Best Overall
- Redeemable at Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, Yard House, Seasons 52, and Bahama Breeze among others.
- Redemption: Instore
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards.
What the Chino Hills price includes
The Chino Hills page lists adults at $17.99 for lunch and $19.99 for dinner. Those prices are before tax, and beverages are extra. Because the published figures are for Chino Hills, do not use them as a guaranteed price for Rancho Cucamonga or for a future menu revision.
What it is—and is not
Soup ‘n Fresh explicitly says it is independent from the former restaurant that occupied the location. It has different recipes and staff, so treat it as a new restaurant with a familiar service pattern, not as a reopened Souplantation branch. Menu selections, preparation and local wait estimates are changeable.
When it makes sense
- Choose it when soup, salad and bakery items matter more than a large selection of carved meats or fried entrées.
- Use the restaurant’s current page or call before leaving if you need a particular soup, dessert or dietary item.
- Budget separately for tax and drinks; the listed prices do not include either.
2. Sweet Tomatoes: the same family, but in two other states
Sweet Tomatoes is the closest brand-family alternative currently operating, but geography is decisive. Its official homepage says two locations are operating, and the FAQ identifies them as Tucson, Arizona, and Fort Myers, Florida.

The official FAQ lists weekday lunch at under $13 and weekday dinner at under $14 at both locations. Lunch runs from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; dinner begins at 4 p.m. On weekend days, dinner pricing applies throughout the day. These are price bands rather than exact totals, and they are not directly comparable with Soup ‘n Fresh’s Chino Hills prices because the restaurants are in different states and may apply different taxes and beverage policies.

What to confirm before a long drive
- Open the official page for the Tucson or Fort Myers restaurant and confirm that it is operating on your intended date.
- Check whether the posted price is still the same and whether drinks, tax or any service charge are separate.
- Confirm the lunch-to-dinner cutoff if you are trying to use the lower weekday lunch band.
- Review the current menu for the soups, salads, breads or desserts you actually want; buffet selections can change.
Sweet Tomatoes describes its all-you-can-eat structure in its FAQ: “Yes! Our guests love that we offer an all you can eat structure so they can enjoy a variety of different offerings during their visit!” That statement explains the service model, not a guarantee that every historical item is available today.
3. Souplantation’s return: planned, not open
Do not plan a meal at Souplantation today based on a reopening headline. The Los Angeles Times reported on October 8, 2026, that the chain plans to reopen at its former Fountain Valley location in 2027. All locations had closed in 2020.
The report establishes a planned Fountain Valley site, not an operating restaurant. It does not establish an exact opening day, future menu, final prices or a wider California expansion schedule. Until an official opening announcement provides those details, use the alternatives above rather than traveling to the former location.
4. Golden Corral: a broad buffet when variety matters more than the format
Golden Corral can satisfy the “eat as much as you want” requirement, but it is not a close soup-and-salad replica. Official location pages show soups and salads alongside hot entrées, side dishes and desserts. That broader selection is useful for groups with different appetites, while it is less suitable if you specifically want the lighter bakery-and-salad rhythm associated with Souplantation.

Why there is no single reliable price
Menus and availability vary by location, day, time, holiday and supply. No authoritative national price list was established, so use the individual restaurant’s official page instead of relying on a third-party estimate.
Questions to answer on the local page
- What is the adult price for your date and meal period?
- Does the location apply a different holiday or weekend price?
- Are beverages included, refillable or charged separately?
- Are the soup and salad stations operating during the hours you plan to visit?
5. Applebee’s unlimited offer: a deal, not a buffet substitute
Applebee’s announced a limited-time, dine-in offer on May 11, 2026: unlimited boneless wings, riblets, double-crunch shrimp and fries for $15.99 at participating locations. The offer is materially different from a soup-and-salad buffet: it centers on selected hot entrées and a fixed side rather than a broad self-serve spread.
Because the announcement was limited-time, the promotion may have expired or changed. Check the current menu and confirm participation with the restaurant before treating the $15.99 figure as available. If it is still active, it can work for someone seeking unlimited servings at a known price, but it should not be presented as a Souplantation replacement.

6. Souper!Salad!: a promising format with local availability to verify
Souper!Salad!’s official homepage describes all-you-can-eat soups, salads, fruit, breads, baked potatoes and dessert. That menu shape is relevant to anyone searching for a soup-and-salad buffet. Daily and seasonal offerings change, however, and a complete current location list or local price was not established.
Rank #4
- Redeemable at Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, Cheddar’s Scratch Kitchen, Yard House, Seasons 52, and Bahama Breeze among others.
- Redemption: Instore
- No returns and no refunds on gift cards.
Before making plans, identify a specific restaurant, confirm that it is currently open, review its hours and ask for the current adult price. Do not assume that a location shown in an old directory still operates or that every branch carries the same menu.
7. Sizzler: check for a local salad bar, not an assumed buffet
Sizzler is a weaker match. Its official FAQ sends diners to local pages for current hours, menu prices, seasonal specials and ordering information. The available information does not establish that every location offers an unlimited soup-and-salad format.
Use Sizzler only after the specific restaurant confirms that its salad bar is operating and that the service pattern and price meet your expectations. A salad bar may be the main attraction at one location while another emphasizes standard menu ordering.
How to choose among the alternatives
Choose by format first
- Soup, salad, bakery and dessert: Soup ‘n Fresh is the strongest current documented match; Sweet Tomatoes is similar where its Tucson or Fort Myers locations are practical.
- Many hot entrées for a mixed group: A local Golden Corral is more appropriate, provided its current menu and price work for you.
- A one-time unlimited entrée promotion: Applebee’s may fit only if the limited-time offer is still active at a participating restaurant.
- Soup-and-salad concept outside those locations: Investigate Souper!Salad! or a verified Sizzler salad bar, but confirm local operation rather than relying on brand familiarity.
Then compare the real trip cost
Start with the posted adult price, then add sales tax and any beverage charge. For Soup ‘n Fresh, the Chino Hills figures are explicitly before tax and exclude beverages. For Sweet Tomatoes, the published “under” price bands do not tell you the final tax-inclusive total. For other restaurants, use the local page because national or third-party averages can be misleading.

- Texas Roadhouse Gift Cards are perfect for any occasion and will delight everyone on your list.

- Use Texas Roadhouse gift cards for a fun night out or for convenient Online / To-Go orders.

Account for timing
Meal periods can change both price and menu. Sweet Tomatoes switches from lunch to dinner at 4 p.m. and uses dinner pricing all day on weekends. Golden Corral prices and availability can vary by day and holiday. Applebee’s participation is tied to a limited-time, participating-location promotion. Confirm the exact day and arrival time before you leave.
Match the menu to your group
A soup-and-salad specialist works well when diners want vegetables, soups, breads and desserts in repeated small portions. A broad buffet is more flexible for guests who want grilled or fried entrées. A promotional entrée deal is least flexible because the unlimited choices are restricted to the listed items.
A practical verification checklist before traveling
- Confirm the address. Use the restaurant’s official location page, especially for concepts with a small or changing footprint.
- Check opening status. Do not treat a planned reopening, an old directory listing or a social-media post as proof that the dining room is open.
- Read the current hours. Note lunch and dinner cutoffs, weekend schedules and holiday exceptions.
- Price the complete meal. Record the adult buffet or promotion price, then ask about tax, beverages, children’s rates and any other mandatory charge.
- Confirm the menu. Ask whether the soup, salad, bakery, dessert or salad-bar stations you want are available that day.
- Check promotion rules. For a limited-time deal, verify dine-in requirements, participating locations and expiration terms.
- Estimate the wait. Reservations and wait estimates vary by restaurant; call ahead when traveling during peak lunch, dinner or holiday periods.
- Plan for dietary needs. Ask staff about ingredients, cross-contact and whether a particular station is replenished separately. Buffet labels and recipes can change.
What a San Diego-area search can—and cannot—tell you
People still ask online for “places like Souplantation and Hometown Buffet in San Diego,” often meaning any affordable buffet with unlimited servings. Community replies can reveal local ideas, but they are anecdotal and do not verify current hours, prices or food-service status. Use those conversations as leads only, then confirm every candidate through its own current location information.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteFor a San Diego diner, the most important constraint is geography: the documented Soup ‘n Fresh locations are in the Inland Empire, Sweet Tomatoes’ two identified restaurants are in Arizona and Florida, and the Fountain Valley Souplantation site is planned for 2027. A closer broad buffet or salad bar may be a better practical choice than a format-perfect restaurant several hours away.
Bottom-line decision guide
For the closest currently documented Souplantation-style experience, compare the drive to Soup ‘n Fresh’s Rancho Cucamonga and Chino Hills restaurants and use the Chino Hills price of $17.99 lunch or $19.99 dinner as a before-tax reference. For the lowest published meal bands among close-format restaurants, Sweet Tomatoes lists weekday lunch under $13 and dinner under $14, but only its Tucson and Fort Myers locations are identified and weekend pricing follows the dinner rate. If you need a restaurant near home with the widest range of food, investigate a local Golden Corral and verify its page. Treat Applebee’s $15.99 offer as a potentially expired promotion, Souper!Salad! as a concept requiring location checks, and Sizzler as a salad-bar possibility rather than a guaranteed unlimited buffet. Souplantation’s Fountain Valley return belongs on a 2027 watch list, not on today’s itinerary.
