Neither stock is an evidence-backed universal winner. SoundHound AI offers faster recent revenue growth from a much smaller base, but reported a GAAP loss per share. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC) reported exceptionally high Q2 2026 operating margins, while planning substantial investment and facing manufacturing, trade-policy, and cost risks. The operating results alone cannot show which stock is likely to deliver the better return: that judgment also requires current valuations and a clear view of your risk tolerance and time horizon.

Financial figures and company outlooks in this comparison are based on information available through Oct. 7, 2026. TSMC’s Q3 2026 earnings event was scheduled for Oct. 15, so the Q3 figures below are guidance, not reported results.

What do the companies do?

SoundHound sells conversational AI software and services

SoundHound describes its technology as enabling conversational experiences across phones, kiosks, smart devices, drive-throughs, TVs, and vehicles. Its OASYS platform is described as an orchestrated agent system for deploying conversational AI agents. The company lists automotive, financial services, healthcare, retail, and telecommunications among its customer sectors. These descriptions explain its intended market; they are not independent proof of market leadership.

TSMC manufactures chips for customers

TSMC is a semiconductor foundry. Its business depends on customers’ manufacturing needs, demand for advanced process technologies and packaging, and its ability to build and operate capacity profitably. In its January 2026 call, management pointed to AI-related demand and leading-edge capacity as important drivers, while also discussing policy and component-cost uncertainty.

The companies are not direct substitutes. SoundHound provides software and services used in conversational interfaces; TSMC manufactures semiconductors. Their association with AI does not make their business models, financial measures, or investment risks equivalent.

How do their latest reported results compare?

Measure SoundHound AI TSMC
Q2 2026 revenue US$61.9 million, up 45% year over year, according to SoundHound’s Q2 2026 results. US$40.20 billion net revenue, according to TSMC’s Q2 2026 results.
Q2 2026 profitability figure GAAP loss per share of US$0.10, according to SoundHound’s Q2 2026 results. 67.7% gross margin and 60.3% operating margin, according to TSMC’s Q2 2026 results.
Near-term outlook SoundHound said it raised its full-year outlook; the revised range is not stated in the cited release excerpt. For Q3 2026, TSMC guided to US$44.6–45.8 billion in revenue, a 65.0–67.0% gross margin, and a 56.0–58.0% operating margin. These are guidance ranges, not actual results.

The revenue figures show a large difference in scale, while the 45% growth rate shows SoundHound’s pace of expansion from a smaller base. Neither observation, by itself, forecasts future stock performance. A GAAP loss per share is also not directly comparable with TSMC’s gross and operating margin percentages; the measures describe different aspects of performance.

What could drive each stock—and what could go wrong?

SoundHound: growth has to become durable, profitable business

SoundHound’s rapid reported revenue growth may appeal to investors willing to accept uncertainty about execution and profitability. The company said it raised its full-year outlook, but the specific revised range is not established here. Its Q2 GAAP loss per share makes the path to profitable operations an important question.

SoundHound’s investor page also listed a completed LivePerson acquisition announcement dated Sept. 4, 2026, and September announcements about OASYS Edge and a Kia Sorento deployment. These establish company-announced corporate activity and deployments, not the revenue they will generate, customer retention, or improved profitability. Investors would need further reported results to assess those outcomes.

TSMC: strong margins come with a large investment program

TSMC management forecast close to 30% full-year revenue growth in U.S. dollar terms for 2026 and a capital budget of US$52–56 billion. Management said 70–80% of that planned budget would go to advanced process technologies. Those are management expectations and plans, not guarantees of growth or investment returns.

Large planned spending makes execution important: TSMC must manage capacity, costs, and demand while turning manufacturing investments into returns. In its Q4 2025 earnings-call transcript, Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei identified external uncertainties: “Entering 2026, we understand there are uncertainties and risk from the potential impact of tariff policies and rising component prices, especially in consumer related and price sensitive end market segments.”

Which stock may fit your investing priorities?

If your priority is… What the available evidence points to Key question to investigate
Rapid reported growth SoundHound reported 45% year-over-year Q2 revenue growth from a small base. Can growth continue while the business moves toward profitability?
High recent operating margins TSMC reported a 60.3% Q2 operating margin. Can the company execute its investment plan and maintain returns amid changing demand and costs?
Lower uncertainty about reported profitability TSMC reported positive Q2 gross and operating margins; SoundHound reported a GAAP loss per share. How do the companies’ full-period financial statements, cash generation, and future obligations compare?
A valuation-based decision The available evidence does not establish synchronized share prices or valuation multiples for either company as of Oct. 7, 2026. What do both stocks cost at the same point in time, and which consistent valuation measure suits these different business models?

The table is a starting point, not a ranking. SoundHound presents greater early-stage execution and profitability uncertainty. TSMC faces large-scale manufacturing and investment demands, as well as trade-policy and component-cost exposures. The available evidence does not quantify the probability or expected return associated with either company’s risks.

What to check before deciding whether either stock is a buy

  1. Compare valuations on the same date. Verify both share prices and use consistent conventions for share class and currency. Then select a valuation measure appropriate to each company; a single multiple may not capture the differences between software and semiconductor manufacturing.
  2. Read the underlying financial reports. Check the companies’ full-period statements and disclosures rather than treating a quarter’s growth rate or margin as a complete picture of profitability and financial condition.
  3. Test the business-specific thesis. For SoundHound, look for evidence that growth, acquisitions, and deployments translate into durable revenue and better profitability. For TSMC, assess whether demand and capacity needs can support returns on planned spending, and how policy or component costs could affect customers and margins.
  4. Match uncertainty to your horizon and risk tolerance. Decide how much execution and profitability uncertainty you can accept, and how you would respond if demand, costs, or results diverge from management’s expectations.

Because synchronized prices and valuation multiples are not established here, the results do not support a valuation-based buy recommendation. The evidence supports a business-model comparison, not a forecast of which stock will outperform.
