The right soundbar or wireless speaker depends on what you want it to do: improve TV dialogue, create a convincing surround setup, or play music around the home. For a full surround package, consider the Samsung HW-Q990F; for detachable rear speakers, the JBL Bar 1000MK2; for a compact TV setup, the Sonos Beam (Gen 2); and for music with spatial audio, the Sonos Era 300. Samsung’s Music Studio 7 is a newly announced option, but its independent performance and retail availability are not established by the cited launch announcement.

Which soundbar fits your TV and room?
For a complete surround system: Samsung HW-Q990F
RTINGS names the HW-Q990F its best soundbar in its 2026 guide. Its 11.1.4-channel system includes a subwoofer and two satellite speakers, with Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, room correction and capability for large rooms. It is the most appropriate option here if you want a substantial surround package without assembling separate components.

For detachable rear speakers: JBL Bar 1000MK2
RTINGS names this its best mid-range soundbar. The two battery-powered rear speakers detach from the bar and can be used separately as wireless speakers, making them useful if you want flexible placement or occasional standalone playback. The system is rated at 7.1.4 channels and includes a 10-inch subwoofer.
Check source routing before choosing it for gaming or high-refresh video. RTINGS reports that HDMI passthrough tops out at 4K/60Hz, so a 4K/120Hz console or source should connect directly to a compatible TV rather than pass through the bar if you need that signal.

For a smaller setup that can grow: Sonos Beam (Gen 2)
The Beam is the compact soundbar choice in RTINGS’ 2026 guide. It supports Dolby Atmos and room correction, and you can add a subwoofer and satellite speakers later. Its 5.0-channel configuration and small footprint make it a different kind of purchase from a full surround bundle: choose it for a simpler starting point and an expansion path, not for rear speakers included in the box.

For spatial audio: Sonos Era 300
TechRadar names the Era 300 its spatial-audio pick. Its connection options include Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.0 and AirPlay 2; line-in requires an adapter. TechRadar reports strong stereo and Atmos effects, alongside some clear trade-offs: bass may not go deep enough for listeners seeking weightier low end, poor recordings can be exposed, and the speaker is less suited to unobtrusive background listening.

The Era 300 is primarily a music speaker, not a substitute for a TV soundbar in every setup. It can also be part of a Sonos surround system, but whether that makes sense depends on the rest of your equipment and how you intend to use it.
A new option, not yet a proven pick: Samsung Music Studio 7
Samsung’s April 6, 2026 US announcement describes the Music Studio 7 as a 3.1.1-channel speaker with wired or wireless Dolby Atmos. That establishes the announced specification, not how it performs in independent listening tests. The announcement also does not confirm current retail availability, so check that it is actually on sale in your market before treating it as a purchase option.

Choose by system shape and connection needs
Start with the setup you want
- One compact bar: A soundbar such as the Beam is a straightforward way to improve TV audio without placing separate rear speakers.
- A bar and subwoofer: This adds a dedicated bass component, but check whether the subwoofer is included and how it connects.
- A full surround package: Systems such as the HW-Q990F and Bar 1000MK2 include rear satellites. Account for the extra speakers and their placement when assessing your room.
- A music-first speaker: A wireless speaker such as the Era 300 is designed around music playback and spatial audio rather than being a direct one-for-one replacement for a TV soundbar.
Do not assume “wireless” means one thing
Product descriptions may use “wireless” for Wi-Fi music streaming, Bluetooth playback, a wireless subwoofer connection, or battery-powered detachable surround speakers. Those capabilities are not interchangeable. Verify the exact connection you need, plus any adapter required for wired inputs; for example, the Era 300’s line-in uses an adapter.
Check TV, console and format compatibility
- Confirm the bar supports the audio formats you use. The HW-Q990F supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X; Atmos support alone does not establish that a single speaker will create the same surround effect as a multi-speaker system.
- Check HDMI passthrough against the video signal from your sources. The JBL Bar 1000MK2’s reported 4K/60Hz limit matters if you plan to route a 4K/120Hz signal through it.
- Confirm the TV’s available connections and the model’s exact regional version before buying. The shortlist’s evidence is primarily US-facing, and suffixes, stock and availability can vary by market.
Why reviewers can name different best soundbars
Rankings reflect the reviewer’s criteria and use cases, not an industry-wide consensus. RTINGS puts the Samsung HW-Q990F first in its 2026 soundbar guide and separates categories such as best overall, mid-range, budget, compact and large-room picks. Tom’s Guide names the Sonos Arc Ultra its best overall pick in its own 2026 guide and describes evaluating setup, fit, connectivity and sound quality. Different top picks do not by themselves mean one guide is wrong; compare the category and criteria behind each recommendation.

- Decide whether your priority is TV dialogue, room-filling surround sound, music, or a combination.
- Measure the available space and account for the bar, subwoofer and any rear speakers.
- Check the exact model generation, connections, included speakers and compatibility with your TV and sources.
