If your Soulmask dedicated server is missing from the server browser, do not assume it is offline. The browser can lag behind registration, Continue and Favorites can retain stale state, or the Steam query port can be blocked even when the game port is reachable.
Start the dedicated server first, wait several minutes, find its server unique ID or join code in the log, and try the Private Servers search or direct connect. If direct connect works, the server is online and the remaining problem is discovery or filtering. If direct connect times out, investigate the process, ports, router forwarding, firewall, and IP path.
Use this recovery sequence first
These steps address the most common combinations of delayed registration, stale browser state, and incorrect connection details. Perform them in order so that you do not change several variables at once.
- Start the dedicated server before launching Soulmask. Leave the server process running and wait several minutes before opening the game. A Steam community report said the server began appearing after a short wait following a patch; that is a player observation, not a guaranteed registration time.
- Read the server log. Look for the line showing
SERVER UNIQUE IDor the server’s join code. Copy the value exactly, including capitalization or punctuation. - Search Private Servers. In Soulmask, stop any conflicting browser search, open the Private Servers list, and search by the server name or join code. If the result appears, favorite it and then check Continue.
- Try direct connect. Use the server’s reachable IPv4 address and the configured game port in the game’s direct-connect control. For a home server, a player on the same network may need the private address; a player outside the home network normally needs the host’s public address and a correctly forwarded port.
- Check both software versions. Update the dedicated-server files and the client, and confirm that both use the same branch and version. This is especially important when the disappearance began immediately after a patch.
- Only then change networking. Verify the actual ports in launch arguments or
Engine.ini, forward those ports to the correct machine, and allow them through Windows Firewall.
This sequence separates a delayed or hidden listing from a server that cannot be reached at all. It also preserves the join code, which is useful if the browser remains unreliable.

First identify the symptom
The next action depends on whether the server is reachable. A missing browser entry and a connection timeout are different failures, even if they look identical in the menu.

Do not keep changing browser filters when a direct connection is timing out. Conversely, do not rebuild router rules when direct connect already proves that the server is reachable.

Start order matters
Launch the dedicated server first and wait for it to finish initialization. Opening Soulmask immediately can leave the browser looking before Steam registration has completed. The available player report describes servers appearing after a few minutes, particularly after a patch. Treat that as a practical waiting period rather than an official service-level promise.
Read the startup log
Keep the server console or log window visible while testing. Confirm that it reaches its normal running state instead of repeatedly restarting, stopping on an error, or binding to an unexpected address. Record the value beside SERVER UNIQUE ID; the join code is often the fastest way to find a server that does not appear under its name.
Check for duplicate or stale instances
Close an older dedicated-server process before launching a new one. Two instances can compete for the same ports, leaving one process apparently running while the other owns the socket. After a crash, verify in Task Manager that the old process has exited before restarting.

Find the server through Private Servers and restore Continue
Continue is a convenience list, not an independent connection method. It can be empty or stale even when the server is registered.

- Open the Soulmask server browser and stop any search that is still running.
- Choose Private Servers.
- Search by the server name. If the name search fails, use the join code copied from the log.
- Select the matching result and add it to Favorites.
- Return to the main server screen and check Continue.
If the server appears in Private Servers but not Continue, keep using the favorited entry or join code. That result confirms that registration is working; the remaining issue is the client-side list state.
Filters can hide a valid result. Temporarily remove filters such as region, password status, or player-count limits, then search again by the exact join code. Reapply filters only after the server is visible.
Direct connect: the decisive connectivity test
Direct connect bypasses much of the public browser path. Enter the host IPv4 address and the game’s configured port in Soulmask’s direct-connect control, then test from the network that your players will use.
Choose the correct address
- Same home network: a local player generally tests with the server’s private IPv4 address.
- Outside the home network: an internet player generally uses the router’s public IPv4 address, with port forwarding to the server machine.
- Managed host: use the address and port supplied by the host, not an internal address shown by the operating system.
A successful local test does not prove that internet players can connect; it may bypass the router’s public-address and forwarding path. Test from a different network, such as a phone hotspot, when checking a self-hosted server.

Interpret the result
- Connects successfully: the process and game port are reachable. Concentrate on Steam query visibility, browser indexing, filters, Favorites, and Continue.
- Times out: verify that the process is listening on the intended interface, the game port is correct, and the router and firewall forward and allow it.
- Fails immediately with an address or port error: recheck the typed IPv4 address, port, and whether the server has changed addresses after a reboot.
Verify the actual ports instead of relying on examples
Soulmask hosting layouts vary. Read the launch arguments and Engine.ini (or the configuration supplied by your host) to identify the ports in use. Guides commonly show 8777 as a game-port example and 27015 as a Steam query-port example, but those numbers are not universal defaults for every installation.

The examples above are configuration illustrations, not a promise that your server uses those ports. If launch arguments specify different values, use those values consistently in the router, firewall, host panel, and direct-connect test.
Check for port conflicts
Make sure no other game server or service is already using the configured ports. A second process can prevent Soulmask from binding successfully or can answer queries intended for the Soulmask instance. Stop unused instances, restart the dedicated server, and read the log again for bind or listen errors.
Remember the query port
Opening only the game port can produce a confusing result: direct connect may work while the public browser remains empty. The query port is the path used to advertise and interrogate the server in the list, so it needs the same careful forwarding and firewall treatment as the game port.
Forward ports through the router
For a self-hosted server, forwarding must target the computer running the dedicated server, not merely the router or another device on the network.

- Give the server computer a stable private IPv4 address, either with a static address or a DHCP reservation in the router.
- Open the router’s port-forwarding page.
- Create rules for every configured Soulmask game and query port. Use the required protocol shown by your server configuration or hosting guide; do not silently substitute a different port.
- Set the destination to the server computer’s private IPv4 address.
- Save the rules and restart the router only if its interface requires it.
- Retest from outside the home network. A local test can succeed even when the public forwarding rule is wrong.
If your internet provider uses carrier-grade NAT, the router may not have a directly reachable public IPv4 address. In that case, ordinary port forwarding can appear correct but remain inaccessible from the internet. Ask the provider about a public address or use a managed hosting arrangement that supplies reachable networking.
Allow the server through Windows Firewall
Windows Firewall can block a correctly forwarded port. Add inbound rules for the configured game and Steam query ports and, where appropriate, allow the dedicated-server executable on the network profiles your server uses.
- Open Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security.
- Choose Inbound Rules, then New Rule.
- Create a port rule for each configured Soulmask port, selecting the protocol required by the server configuration.
- Choose Allow the connection, apply the rule to the active profiles, and name it clearly.
- If the server executable itself is blocked, create an additional program rule pointing to that executable.
- Restart the dedicated server and test direct connect again.
Do not create rules only for the example values 8777 and 27015 if your launch configuration uses different ports. A firewall rule for the wrong number has no effect.

A patch can leave the client and dedicated server on different versions or branches, and it can also change configuration files or reset launch arguments.
- Update the dedicated-server files using the installation method you normally use.
- Update the Soulmask client on every player’s machine.
- Confirm that client and server are on the same branch and version, rather than assuming that both launchers updated successfully.
- Inspect launch arguments and
Engine.iniagain; verify that the game and query ports have not reverted to old values. - Start the updated server first and wait several minutes for registration before opening Soulmask.
- Search Private Servers by the new join code, then retry direct connect.
The post-patch timing and refresh workarounds reported by players are anecdotal. They are sensible recovery steps, but they are not guarantees that every patch-related listing problem will resolve without a server-side change.

Read logs and configuration before changing more settings
What to record
- The exact server unique ID or join code.
- The game and query ports shown in launch arguments or configuration.
- The server machine’s current private IPv4 address.
- Whether the process remains running without restart or bind errors.
- Whether a local direct-connect test and an outside-network test produce different results.
Common configuration mistakes
- The router forwards to an old private IP after the server computer receives a new DHCP address.
- The firewall allows the game port but not the query port.
- The server was moved to another machine while forwarding still targets the former host.
- A launch script contains one port while
Engine.inicontains another. - An extra server instance owns the port, so the visible console is not the instance receiving traffic.
Change one item at a time and retest. Keeping a short record prevents a successful change from being lost among simultaneous edits.

Decide whether to keep self-hosting
Home hosting gives you direct control over files, versions, backups, and ports, but you also own router forwarding, firewall rules, address changes, patch maintenance, and troubleshooting. It is the better fit when you can administer the network and want control over the machine.
Managed Soulmask dedicated-server hosting removes much of the port-forwarding and firewall work. One current hosting announcement advertises capacity of up to 70 players, but capacity, regions, uptime, pricing, and configuration vary by provider and should be verified before purchase. A managed host is most useful when outside players cannot reach a home router, your internet connection uses carrier-grade NAT, or you do not want to maintain a public-facing server.

A compact troubleshooting checklist
- Start the dedicated server before launching Soulmask.
- Wait several minutes after startup or a patch.
- Copy the server unique ID or join code from the log.
- Search Private Servers by code, favorite the result, and check Continue.
- Try direct connect with the correct IPv4 address and configured game port.
- Update client and server and confirm matching branches.
- Inspect launch arguments and
Engine.inifor actual game, query, and echo-port settings. - Forward every configured port to the server’s current private IP.
- Allow those same ports and the server executable through Windows Firewall.
- Check for duplicate processes and port conflicts.
- Test from outside the home network before concluding that the browser is at fault.
The key distinction is simple: a successful direct connection proves reachability even if the browser is empty; a timeout moves the investigation down to the process, address, ports, router, and firewall.
