Yes—if your priorities are battery life, low weight and useful everyday noise cancelling. The Sony WH-CH730N is a 207 g folding over-ear headset with multipoint Bluetooth, app-based EQ and a rated 50 hours of playback with noise cancelling enabled. Its compromise is moderate ANC rather than flagship-level silence: voices, braking squeals and other midrange sounds remain noticeable. It is a strong mid-budget choice for commuting, flights and work, provided you do not need water resistance, premium Bluetooth codecs or easily replaceable ear pads.
What the WH-CH730N offers
Sony positions the WH-CH730N as a lightweight, uncomplicated wireless noise-cancelling headphone. The design uses mostly matte plastic with a metal headband, folds for storage and includes Sony’s Dual Noise Sensor technology, Ambient Sound Mode, DSEE upscaling and 360 Reality Audio support. The approximate weight is 207 g, light enough to reduce fatigue during long listening sessions.
Controls and listening modes are managed through the Sony Sound Connect app. The app includes connection management, ANC and ambient-sound behavior, firmware updates, battery-care settings and a 10-band equalizer. Multipoint lets the headset remain connected to two devices, which is useful when moving between a laptop and phone.

How effective is the ANC?
Noise cancelling is useful for reducing steady background noise, but it is not the WH-CH730N’s strongest selling point. In SoundGuys testing, the headphones achieved about 66% perceived isolation and 79% cancellation. Those figures indicate a substantial reduction in environmental noise, not silence.
Where it works well
- Low, continuous sounds such as engine rumble and general transit noise are reduced effectively.
- Ambient Sound Mode lets you hear surroundings without removing the headphones.
- The app provides controls for adjusting ANC behavior and listening modes.
Where it falls short
- SoundGuys found weaker results from roughly 300 to 1,000 Hz.
- Speech, braking squeals and similar midrange sounds can remain clearly audible.
- Commuters who need maximum suppression in busy stations or aircraft cabins should consider a higher-tier model.
In practical terms, the WH-CH730N makes noisy travel less tiring but does not create a silent bubble.

Battery life and charging
Battery endurance is the headline advantage. Sony rates up to 50 hours with ANC enabled. What Hi-Fi? reports the same 50-hour ANC-on figure, up to 75 hours with ANC disabled and approximately one hour of playback from a three-minute quick charge. SoundGuys had not completed a full independent battery-drain test at publication and therefore treated Sony’s estimate as the available ANC-on figure.
Sony’s help guide lists approximately three hours for a full charge. Actual runtime varies with volume, wireless conditions, codec use and the balance between ANC and ambient modes. Battery-care controls in Sound Connect can help reduce long-term battery wear.

Comfort, build and portability
The low weight and moderate clamp make the WH-CH730N comfortable for extended sessions. What Hi-Fi? found the ear cushions and headband forgiving and the clamp well judged during travel and walking. The folding hinges make it easier to pack than a non-folding over-ear design.
There are two ownership cautions. First, Sony does not list an ingress-protection rating, so rain and heavy moisture should be treated as risks. Second, replacing the pads is awkward: SoundGuys says the slot-and-extra-material attachment makes removal and installation difficult. If you buy compatible replacement pads, verify the exact WH-CH730N fit before ordering.

Sound, calls and connections
SoundGuys describes the audio as decent for inexpensive ANC headphones, while What Hi-Fi? includes DSEE and 360 Reality Audio among the feature set. The 10-band EQ gives you considerably more adjustment than a simple bass or treble toggle, so the out-of-box tuning is not your only option.
Call quality was comparatively good in SoundGuys samples. The removable 3.5 mm cable provides a useful wired fallback when the battery is empty or an aircraft entertainment system requires a cable. Bluetooth support is limited to SBC and AAC; listeners specifically seeking LDAC, aptX HD or another higher-bandwidth codec will not find it here. USB-C audio is unavailable, so a USB-C cable cannot be used as a digital listening connection.

WH-CH730N versus WH-CH720N
The WH-CH730N launched in the United States at $179.99, about $50 above the WH-CH720N’s $129 US launch price. What Hi-Fi? lists launch or review-period pricing of $180 versus $129 in the US, £100 in the UK and AU$230 in Australia for the WH-CH730N. Choose the WH-CH730N when its longer stated endurance, Bluetooth 6.0, app EQ, multipoint and current price justify the premium. Choose the older model when it is substantially cheaper and you do not need those advantages. Because street prices move frequently, the real value depends on the gap at the time you shop.
Who should buy it?
- Good fit: commuters, frequent travelers and office users who want a light folding headset, very long battery life, multipoint and customizable sound.
- Consider alternatives: people who need the strongest possible suppression of speech and transit squeals, water resistance, premium codecs or straightforward pad replacement.
- Before ordering: confirm regional price and availability, check that your devices support AAC or SBC, and remember that USB-C audio will not work.
Verdict
The Sony WH-CH730N gets the fundamentals right: it is light, comfortable, long-lasting and flexible enough for phone-and-laptop use. Its ANC reduces everyday noise substantially, but the measured weakness in the 300–1,000 Hz range keeps it below flagship isolation. At a sensible local price, it is an easy recommendation for affordable ANC buyers who value endurance and portability more than absolute silence or high-end codec support.
