The Sony RX10 V is a premium fixed-lens superzoom built around a 24–600mm-equivalent lens, upgraded subject tracking, blackout-free bursts up to 30 frames per second, and 4K 120p video. It retains the RX10 IV’s approximately 20.1MP sensor and lens design, so its appeal is convenience and newer capabilities—not a clear leap in image quality. At its announced U.S. launch price of $2,299.99, it is best suited to buyers who will use the whole range and want one camera for wildlife, travel, action, and video.
What the Sony RX10 V offers
The RX10 V is a bridge camera: its lens is built in, so there is no need to change lenses to move from wide scenes to distant subjects. Sony lists a 25x optical zoom covering 24–600mm equivalent at f/2.4–4, with optical image stabilization. Its stated macro focus distances are approximately 3cm at the wide end and 72cm at the telephoto end. Those figures describe different ends of the zoom; they do not mean the camera can focus that close at 600mm.
Sony specifies an approximately 20.1-effective-megapixel, 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS sensor. DPReview lists 20.0 megapixels in its structured specifications, while Sony’s own announcement uses approximately 20.1 megapixels; the figures reflect each publisher’s stated specification, not evidence of different sensor versions. What is new—and what is not—compared with the RX10 IV
The headline changes are processing, subject recognition, burst shooting, video, and handling. Sony attributes the new subject-recognition and high-speed capabilities to an AI processing unit and BIONZ XR engine. DPReview describes the newer subject modes and blackout-free 30fps viewfinder experience as meaningful advances over the previous generation.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
The sensor and lens design are carried over, according to TechRadar, which found no major direct image-quality improvement. Sony likewise says the lens remains the same design. DPReview notes that reported literal focal lengths differ from numbers printed on earlier models, attributing this to changed reporting standards; that discrepancy alone is not evidence of redesigned optics. The RX10 IV launched in 2017 with a 20.1MP stacked sensor, 24–600mm-equivalent f/2.4–4 lens, and a claimed burst rate of up to 24fps. These are launch-era specifications, not a current side-by-side test. [TechRadar’s RX10 V review] [DPReview’s RX10 V review] [Sony’s RX10 V announcement] [Sony’s RX10 IV announcement]
Autofocus, wildlife, birds, and sports
Sony advertises blackout-free electronic-shutter shooting at up to 30fps and up to 60 AF/AE calculations per second. Those are maximum specified figures: Sony cautions that shooting speed can fall with conditions, and that AF/AE performance varies with settings, environment, storage, and use. Listed recognition subjects include people, animals, birds, insects, cars, trains, and airplanes; recognition is not guaranteed in every situation.

TechRadar reviewer Tim Coleman reported using a Sony-loaned camera for three weeks before announcement, including on trips and regular visits to a nature reserve. He found bird detection persistent even when birds were small in the frame, but said busy sports scenes with many faces could cause the camera to select the wrong person unless he narrowed the AF area. He also noted that not every bird-in-flight frame was sharp. That is useful reviewer experience, not a guarantee of a particular keeper rate. The top-line video mode is 4K at up to 120p, which can provide slow-motion footage when played back at a lower frame rate. Sony warns that recording at 120p narrows the angle of view, so it captures a tighter view than lower-frame-rate settings. The camera also lists S-Cinetone, S-Log3, LUT import, subject-aware Auto Framing, and USB-C 4K 30p live streaming. DPReview highlights 10-bit and H.265 capture as workflow improvements.

For someone who needs flexible framing at the long end, the 120p crop matters; for a hybrid shooter who values high-frame-rate footage and a built-in long zoom, the combination may be more useful than a simple resolution headline suggests. Handling, battery, and durability
A single integrated lens keeps the system simple to operate, but the all-in-one design is not the same as a small pocket camera. Consider whether you are comfortable carrying a camera with a 600mm-equivalent reach when deciding if you will actually take advantage of its range.

Sony quotes approximately 630 still images per charge using the LCD and approximately 570 using the viewfinder, measured under CIPA conditions. These are standardized estimates, not a promise of a full day’s shooting; actual results depend on use. Digital Camera World identifies the Nikon Coolpix P1100 and Panasonic Lumix FZ80D/FZ82D as lower-cost, reach-oriented alternatives, while cautioning that they differ in quality and features. Compare current prices and the particular features you need rather than assuming their longer reach or lower price makes them direct substitutes. Interchangeable-lens cameras offer more scope to change lenses, but the lens cost, extra equipment, and added operational complexity belong in the comparison too. Quick Recap
Who should buy the Sony RX10 V?
- It fits: photographers who want one integrated 24–600mm-equivalent range, improved subject recognition, fast bursts, and advanced video in the same camera.
- Think carefully: RX10 IV owners should weigh the new tracking, burst behavior, and video capabilities against the unchanged sensor and lens design. The case to upgrade is strongest if those newer features solve a real need.
- Look elsewhere too: buyers prioritizing maximum image quality per dollar, a smaller carry setup, or interchangeable-lens flexibility should compare other camera systems before paying the premium.
