The Sony PS-LX3BT is a fully automatic, belt-drive turntable designed for easy listening: press a button to play a record, then send audio to a Bluetooth device or connect by cable. Its built-in phono/line output makes it straightforward to use with many systems. The tradeoff is limited adjustment and upgrade flexibility, so it suits listeners who value convenience more than experimenting with cartridges and setup.
What the Sony PS-LX3BT offers
Sony’s US specifications list automatic start and stop, belt drive, two playback speeds, and support for 7- and 12-inch records. The turntable uses a moving-magnet cartridge and a die-cast aluminum platter. Its listed dimensions are 17 × 4.63 × 14.5 inches, and its weight is approximately 3.5 kg. See Sony’s product page and Sony’s specifications for the model details.
Automatic operation is the central convenience: you do not have to manually place and lift the tonearm for ordinary playback. The available speeds are 33⅓ and 45 RPM. Sony’s product page describes Bluetooth as a way to connect to a wireless audio setup, while the specifications also list a wired audio cable.
How it connects to speakers or an amplifier
The PS-LX3BT can send audio over Bluetooth or through its wired output. For a wired connection, the PHONO/LINE selector must match the input you use. Sony’s manual also directs users to set the selector to LINE when using Bluetooth only.
#1 Best Overall
- EASY OPERATION: Effortlessly enjoy your favorite records with one-step auto start, stop and return.
- WIRELESS CONNECTION: Connect to wireless speakers, headphones, soundbars, or other Bluetooth enabled devices.
- WIRED CONNECTION: Enjoy a simple wired connection to receivers, powered speakers, and other components with built-in audio cable.
- HIGH QUALITY AUDIO: Built-in switchable phono EQ allows the turntable to connect to a home stereo, powered speakers, or another component, with or without a dedicated phono input.
- TRANSPARENT DUST COVER: Showcase your vinyl collection with a clear dust cover that protects your turntable without hiding your favorite records.
- Use LINE for an AUX or other line-level input, and for Bluetooth-only use.
- Use PHONO when connecting to an amplifier’s PHONO input.
- Do not connect LINE output to a PHONO input. That pairing does not follow Sony’s connection guidance.
Sony lists SBC, aptX, and aptX Adaptive transmitter codec support. Codec support alone does not guarantee a particular sound quality: the receiving speaker or headphones must support the relevant codec, and the wireless connection conditions also matter. For wired listening, the built-in phono EQ provides a line-level output option; choosing PHONO instead is appropriate for a compatible external phono input.
What reviewers say about its sound and convenience
What Hi-Fi’s review, dated 14 April 2026, awards the PS-LX3BT five stars and praises its automatic operation, Bluetooth flexibility, and enjoyable sound. These are the publication’s listening impressions, not controlled measurements. The reviewer found the built-in phono stage capable, but reported greater openness and detail with the external phono input used in its comparison. The review also says the turntable can struggle with a particularly demanding, complex recording. Read the What Hi-Fi review for its full assessment.

TechRadar’s review provides a counterpoint focused on the deck’s closed design: it describes the cartridge as proprietary and the turntable as having little adjustment or meaningful upgrade scope. It notes that the stylus can be replaced, but the available evidence does not establish an exact replacement part number. Consult Sony’s current model documentation to verify compatibility before buying a replacement. See TechRadar’s review.

It makes sense if convenience comes first
- You want automatic start and stop rather than manual tonearm operation.
- You want the choice of Bluetooth or a wired connection.
- You prefer a turntable that works with a line-level input without requiring a separate phono stage.
Look elsewhere if you want to tune or upgrade the deck
The limited adjustment and upgrade scope described by TechRadar matters if you expect to change cartridges, fine-tune setup, or build a system around future turntable upgrades. A replaceable stylus is useful for routine ownership, but it is not the same as having broad cartridge choices. If flexibility is a priority, compare alternatives on operation type, wireless support, phono-stage needs, and cartridge or stylus options before deciding.

Price and alternatives to consider
Sony’s US product page displayed $329.99 during the research period for this article. That is a dated US listing, not a guaranteed current price or a price for other regions; check the live listing and availability before purchase.
What Hi-Fi names the Sony PS-LX5BT, Pro-Ject T1 Evo BT, and Rega Planar 1 Plus as alternatives. Current matched prices and enough verified specifications are not available here for a fair head-to-head ranking. When comparing them, check whether you want automatic or manual operation, Bluetooth codec support, a built-in phono stage or wired PHONO output, and greater cartridge or stylus flexibility. Also account for the cost of the speakers or amplifier you will use; Bluetooth and wired audio are connection options, not a requirement to buy any particular accessory.
