Choose the INZONE H9 II if you value lower weight, a detachable cardioid microphone, USB-C wireless, Bluetooth LE Audio, or noise canceling while wired. Choose the original INZONE H9 if it is substantially cheaper where you live or its two-hour higher published maximum battery figure matters more than the newer connections. Sony’s specifications make those distinctions clear, but they do not establish a universal sound or noise-canceling winner: there is no independent side-by-side testing in the available evidence.

The H9 II is listed at 260 g without its microphone or 273 g with it, compared with 330 g for the H9. It uses a USB-C 2.4 GHz transceiver, wired operation, Bluetooth Classic and LE Audio, and a detachable cardioid microphone with AI noise reduction. The H9 uses a USB-A transceiver, Bluetooth Classic, and a bidirectional flip-to-mute microphone. Both models include active noise canceling and 360 Spatial Sound. Sony’s US listing showed $349.99 for the white H9 II when accessed in 2026; that price can change, and a comparable current H9 price was not established, so check local listings before buying.

H9 II vs. H9 at a glance

What changed from the H9 to the H9 II?

A much lighter headset

The largest everyday change is mass. Sony lists the H9 II at 260 g without its detachable microphone and 273 g with the microphone installed. The original H9 is listed at 330 g in Sony’s comparison chart. That makes the H9 II 57 g lighter in a microphone-equipped comparison and 70 g lighter when the H9 II mic is removed. Those numbers do not predict comfort for every head shape, because clamp force, pad material, headband adjustment and glasses can matter as much as weight, but the newer model gives your neck less load during long sessions.

Sony’s support listing also expresses the H9 II at about 9.17 ounces without the mic and the H9 at 11.64 ounces in white or 11.82 ounces in black. The small color-related difference in the H9 listing does not change the buying conclusion: both H9 variants are heavier than the H9 II.

USB-C replaces the H9’s USB-A receiver

The H9 II includes a USB-C 2.4 GHz wireless transceiver, while the H9 includes a USB-A transceiver. This matters when your gaming device has only USB-C ports, as is increasingly common on thin laptops, handheld PCs and some phones or tablets. It also reduces dependence on a USB-A adapter.

USB-C is a connector standard, not a guarantee that every host will work. Sony cautions that a device must support USB Type-C for the supplied transceiver, that not every USB-C connection is guaranteed, and that some functions can vary with the device or its software. Before buying, check that your console, computer or handheld supports the required USB audio behavior rather than assuming any USB-C socket will accept the receiver. Sony’s compatibility guidance is documented in its INZONE H9 II device-compatibility article.

Bluetooth moves to a newer generation

The H9 II supports Bluetooth 5.3, Bluetooth Classic and LE Audio with the LC3 codec. The H9 is specified with Bluetooth 5.0 and Classic Bluetooth. LE Audio can be useful only when the connected phone, computer or console also supports the relevant profiles and codec; the headset cannot add those capabilities to an incompatible host. Sony likewise notes that Bluetooth feature availability depends on supported profiles and codecs.

Do not treat the version number alone as a promise of lower latency or better sound in every setup. Your operating system, game device and selected Bluetooth profile determine which mode is actually used. For latency-sensitive competitive play, the supplied 2.4 GHz transceiver remains the relevant wireless connection on both models.

The microphone is detachable and cardioid on H9 II

The H9 II’s microphone is a detachable cardioid, or unidirectional, boom with AI noise reduction. Sony’s comparison chart lists a mute button and LED. Cardioid pickup is designed to favor sound from the front of the capsule and reject more from the sides and rear than a bidirectional pattern, which can help when your keyboard, desk fan or another person is off-axis. That description explains the design intent; Sony’s published material does not provide an independent voice-quality ranking against the H9.

Sony INZONE H5 Wireless Over-Ear Gaming Headset PS5 Headphones, Black | Plug & Play, Personalized 360 Spatial Sound, For PC/PS5/Console, 28 Hr Battery, 2.4Ghz Wireless and 3.5mm Audio Jack
  • PERSONALIZED AUDIO: Personalized 360 Spatial Sound for Gaming provides precise rival detection. Get tuned audio tailored just for you by uploading a photo of your ear to the 360 Spatial Sound Personalizer smartphone app (Available on Apple App Store / Google Play).
  • AI-ASSISTED MICROPHONE: Bidirectional boom microphone and AI-Based Noise Canceling technology extracts external noises from your environment for crystal-clear communications.
  • LONG BATTERY LIFE: Up to 28 hours of continuous wireless gameplay.
  • SUPERIOR SOUND: 40mm drivers for detailed sound, and immersive gaming.
  • WIRED AND WIRELESS: Choose between 2.4Ghz wireless connection through USB Transceiver, or 3.5mm wired option.

The original H9 uses a bidirectional microphone attached to the headset. Flipping it up mutes it, so muting is a physical movement rather than a separate button press. Its integrated design means there is no loose boom to store, while the H9 II can be used without a microphone when you are listening to music or playing a single-player game.

Noise canceling, wired use and spatial audio

Both headsets have ANC

Active noise canceling is present on both models, so the H9 II is not the only option for reducing steady background sounds. Both are also listed with Sony’s 360 Spatial Sound feature. The available Sony pages do not provide controlled measurements that would justify calling one model the overall ANC or sound winner.

H9 II ANC works with a cable

Sony’s H9 II product page states: “Active Noise canceling works in both wireless and wired modes.” That is useful if you connect the headset to an airplane entertainment system, an audio interface, a controller or a device where wireless radio is restricted. The statement is Sony’s vendor specification, not an independent test result. The original H9 is likewise listed with noise canceling, but the supplied material does not make the same explicit wired-ANC statement for it.

What 360 Spatial Sound does—and does not—tell you

360 Spatial Sound is a processing feature intended to create a more positional presentation. Its usefulness depends on the game, source, profile and your personal preference. Because both headsets carry the feature, it should not decide this comparison by itself. Choose between the models on weight, microphone, connection and price first, then treat spatial audio as a shared capability.

Battery life and charging: H9 wins endurance, H9 II wins recovery

Sony rates the H9 II for a maximum of 30 hours with noise canceling off. Its specification sheet says five minutes of charging provides one hour of playback. The H9 is rated for a maximum of 32 hours with noise canceling off, and ten minutes of charging provides one hour of playback. These are manufacturer maximums, not independent measurements under a common test protocol.

Battery measure H9 II H9
Maximum playback claim with ANC off 30 hours 32 hours
Claimed playback from a quick charge 1 hour after 5 minutes 1 hour after 10 minutes
Practical edge Faster top-ups Two additional hours in the stated maximum

With ANC on, high volume, microphone use, 2.4 GHz radio activity or a different Bluetooth mode, runtime can be lower than the stated maximum. The published figures are best used to compare the manufacturer’s rating, not to predict an exact number of evenings between charges. If you regularly forget to charge, the H9 II’s five-minute/one-hour claim is the more useful characteristic. If you spend long periods away from a charger and otherwise use similar settings, the H9’s two-hour higher maximum may matter more.

Connection and setup choices

Using the 2.4 GHz wireless receiver

  1. Identify the available port on your gaming device. Use the H9 II’s supplied USB-C transceiver with a compatible USB-C host; use the H9’s USB-A transceiver with a USB-A host or an appropriate adapter.
  2. Insert the transceiver directly into the host before launching the game or voice application. If the device does not detect it, test another port and confirm that the operating system recognizes a USB audio device.
  3. Turn on the headset and select it as the output and microphone device in the console or operating-system audio settings.
  4. Set the game’s chat input to the headset microphone. On H9 II, attach the boom if you need voice chat; on H9, lower the flip-up microphone to unmute it.
  5. If audio works but chat does not, check per-app permissions, the selected communications device and the game’s own voice-chat toggle. Sony warns that functions can vary with the host device and software.

Using Bluetooth

  1. Open the host device’s Bluetooth settings and place the headset in pairing mode according to the headset’s on-device controls.
  2. Choose the headset from the discovered-device list. The H9 II can use Bluetooth 5.3, Classic Bluetooth or LE Audio when the host supports the corresponding profile; the H9 is specified for Bluetooth 5.0 and Classic Bluetooth.
  3. Confirm which profile the host selected. A hands-free communications profile can change available audio quality compared with a stereo listening profile.
  4. For competitive games, compare Bluetooth latency with the supplied 2.4 GHz receiver before settling on a connection. The newer Bluetooth version does not automatically make every game connection latency-free.

Using a cable

Connect the supplied headphone cable to the source and headset, then select the appropriate analog output. On H9 II, Sony explicitly says ANC works in wired mode, so you can use noise reduction without the 2.4 GHz radio. Wired behavior, controls and microphone support can still depend on the source device and cable arrangement.

Which headset fits your priorities?

Choose the H9 II for comfort and modern ports

  • You wear a headset for multi-hour work or gaming sessions and want the lower published weight.
  • Your primary computer, handheld or other host has USB-C and you prefer not to carry a USB-A adapter.
  • You want a detachable boom so the headset can be used without a microphone.
  • You prefer a cardioid microphone with AI noise reduction and a dedicated mute control.
  • You need Sony’s explicit assurance that ANC works in wired as well as wireless mode.
  • Your phone or computer supports LE Audio and you want the option to use it.
  • You value a one-hour quick-charge claim after five minutes more than the H9’s extra two hours of maximum runtime.

Choose the original H9 when value or maximum runtime leads

  • The H9 is materially less expensive in your local market and its older USB-A receiver fits your equipment.
  • You prioritize the higher published maximum of 32 hours with ANC off.
  • You prefer a permanently attached microphone that mutes when flipped up and cannot be misplaced.
  • You do not need LE Audio, a USB-C transceiver or a detachable boom.

Because a current comparable H9 price was not established, “materially less expensive” should be judged against the live prices for the exact color and regional model you intend to buy. A small discount may not compensate for the H9 II’s lower weight and newer connectivity; a large discount can make the original H9 the more rational purchase.

Price, availability and what to verify before ordering

Sony’s US product page displayed $349.99 for the white H9 II when accessed in 2026. This is a time-sensitive listing price, not a permanent MSRP guarantee, and it may differ by country, color, taxes or retailer. No comparable current H9 price or marketplace availability was established in the same source set.

Before paying, verify the following:

  • The exact model code and color. Sony identifies the white H9 II listing as WH-G910NW.
  • Whether the seller supplies the correct regional warranty and return policy.
  • That the box includes the receiver and cable type your setup needs.
  • That the listing is for H9 II rather than the original H9, since the names are similar.
  • The final delivered price, including tax, shipping and any regional import charge.

Sony lists the H9 II box contents as the headphone cable, USB-A-to-USB-C cable, USB-C transceiver, soft pouch, reference guide and warranty card. The H9 listing includes a USB cable, USB transceiver and reference guide. Sony’s support pages are US listings, so contents can vary by market.

Compatibility pitfalls and fixes

A USB-C port does not guarantee receiver support

If the H9 II receiver is not detected, connect it directly rather than through a passive hub, try another USB-C port, restart the host and check for operating-system updates. Confirm that the port supports USB data and audio, not only charging. Sony specifically cautions that not all USB-C connections are guaranteed and that some functions may not work depending on the device or software.

Bluetooth features depend on the host

LE Audio and LC3 appear only when both headset and host support the required profiles and codecs. If the host offers only Classic Bluetooth, the H9 II will fall back to what that device supports. This is normal compatibility behavior, not evidence that the headset is defective.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Chat works over output but not input

When game audio plays but teammates cannot hear you, select the headset microphone separately in the game and operating-system settings, grant microphone permission, and check the physical mute state. On H9 II, verify that the detachable boom is fully seated and that its mute button or LED indicates the intended state. On H9, lower the flip-up boom to unmute.

Final buying decision

For most buyers choosing at similar prices, the INZONE H9 II is the more capable design: it is substantially lighter, accepts a USB-C 2.4 GHz receiver, adds Bluetooth LE Audio, provides a detachable cardioid microphone with AI noise reduction, offers wired ANC according to Sony, and charges faster for its stated one-hour quick-charge result. Those are concrete changes you can use every day.

The original H9 remains sensible when its local price is clearly lower, your equipment already favors USB-A, you prefer a flip-to-mute integrated microphone, or the published 32-hour ANC-off maximum is more important than fast top-ups. Neither headset can be declared the universal sound or ANC winner from Sony’s specifications alone. Check the current price and your host-device compatibility, then let your priorities—not the model number—decide.
