Static from Sony wireless headphones can come from Bluetooth interference, noise-canceling or ambient-sound behavior, wind or movement, or a model-specific fault. Start by identifying when the noise occurs, then test your connection and sound-control settings before resetting anything. The right fix depends on the sound and your headphone model.
Identify what the “static” sounds like
Static is a description, not a diagnosis. Notice whether you hear a steady hiss, crackling or popping, brief dropouts, or noise tied to wind, walking, inserting an earbud, or touching a control. Also check whether it happens only during calls, in one app, with one playback device, or in a particular place.
Sony treats these symptoms differently in its Bluetooth headphone crackling, buzzing, popping, or vibration guidance and its sound skipping and noise troubleshooting. A symptom alone does not establish that the headphones are defective.
Check whether Bluetooth interference is responsible
If the noise or dropouts are worse in a crowded place and improve at home or somewhere with fewer nearby devices, Bluetooth interference is a plausible cause. Move closer to the playback device, try a quieter location, temporarily turn off nearby Bluetooth devices, and close apps you are not using. Sony describes location-dependent improvement as a sign of Bluetooth communication interference in its connection and noise troubleshooting.

For models that support it, Sony | Sound Connect may offer a connection-quality option called “Prioritize Stable Connection.” The app’s available settings and paths vary by model. Playback-quality choices can also depend on the connected device and codec, so check the instructions for your exact headphone model rather than assuming one setting is best for every phone.
Compare noise canceling and ambient sound settings
A faint, continuous hiss may be associated with noise canceling on some models. Temporarily turn noise canceling off and listen again. If the sound is linked to walking or running, compare with both noise canceling and ambient sound control turned off. Ambient-sound microphones can also pick up wind.

- Update the headphone software. Sony recommends checking for software updates in some model-specific noise guides. Follow the instructions for your exact model.
- Reset only with the model’s procedure. Sony headphone reset combinations differ, so do not copy button instructions from another product. Use the model’s Sony support page or manual.
- Re-pair if instructed. If the symptom remains, Sony’s troubleshooting may call for initialization. Initialization restores factory settings and deletes Bluetooth pairing information, so you will need to pair the headphones again.
Sony’s general Bluetooth-noise guidance covers reset, initialization, and re-pairing. Its steps are not universal: confirm the model before proceeding.

Contact Sony if the noise persists
If crackling, buzzing, popping, or vibration noise continues after the relevant troubleshooting, contact Sony Product Support or follow the model’s service instructions. When you contact support, provide the model number and describe when the sound occurs, whether it changes by location or sound-control setting, and which troubleshooting steps you tried. Sony’s Bluetooth-noise guidance recommends Product Support when troubleshooting does not resolve persistent noise; some model-specific guides direct users to service after reset and initialization fail.
