The 2026 Sony BRAVIA 7 II is a strong choice if you want vivid color, detailed HDR, and capable console gaming, and can manage its reflective screen and narrower ideal seating area. Its 4K/120 Hz, VRR, and ALLM support are useful, but only two of its four HDMI inputs are HDMI 2.1. Whether it is worth buying depends heavily on your room, seating position, and the price of the exact size in your market.

What is the Sony BRAVIA 7 II?

BRAVIA 7 II is Sony’s 2026 XR70M2 family of 4K televisions. It is a newer generation than the 2024 BRAVIA 7, not simply another name for that older set. RTINGS identifies the BRAVIA 7 II as a premium 2026 model with RGB Mini LED, Google TV 14, and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on two inputs (RTINGS).

Model availability and suffixes depend on region. Sony’s U.S. page identifies the 75-inch set as K75XR70M2, while Sony Japan lists the XR70M2 range in 50-, 55-, 65-, 75-, 85-, and 98-inch sizes. Do not assume that every size, tuner specification, or smart feature is offered identically in every country (Sony U.S.; Sony Japan).

What does Sony’s True RGB Mini LED backlight change?

In a conventional LED-backlit LCD television, the backlight shines through a color-filtering panel. Sony says the BRAVIA 7 II instead uses red, green, and blue Mini LEDs in its backlight, with independently controlled LEDs and RGB Backlight Master Drive Pro processing. The intended benefit is more direct control over color and brightness. Sony describes it as “True RGB with independently controlled red, green, and blue LEDs” and says the system expands the color range; that is the manufacturer’s description, not an independent measurement.

Sony Japan also claims about 1.5 times the color volume of the previous BRAVIA 7. Treat that as Sony’s comparison between generations, not as a result established by the independent review measurements discussed below (Sony Japan).

How good is the picture quality?

TechRadar’s reviewer tested a 65-inch sample and praised its color reproduction, contrast, fine detail, and shadow handling. In that review, the set delivered vivid-looking images while retaining detail in darker scenes. These are reviewer findings from that sample and setup, rather than a guarantee that every unit or viewing environment will look identical.

Brightness and color measurements

TechRadar measured peak HDR brightness of 1,114 nits in Professional mode, 1,295 nits in Standard, and 1,163 nits in Cinema mode. It measured 829 nits for fullscreen HDR brightness in Professional mode. The same 65-inch sample covered 87.7% of BT.2020 and 99.2% of UHDA-P3, according to the outlet’s tests (TechRadar).

Those figures suggest a bright, wide-color-range picture, but they describe different test conditions and picture modes; peak brightness is not the same as sustained full-screen brightness. Tom’s Guide separately published preliminary results of 2,078 nits at a 10% HDR window and 87.2% Rec. 2020 coverage. Its comparison article said its full review was still in progress, so those early figures should not be treated as a completed independent verdict or directly equated with TechRadar’s mode-specific results (Tom’s Guide).

Is the screen suitable for a bright room or wide seating?

Not necessarily. TechRadar found the screen reflective, with reflections conspicuous in bright surroundings and particularly distracting over dark scenes. If a window or lamp faces the television, or you often watch dark films during daylight, room lighting may be a significant drawback. The result will depend on your room and light sources, so consider where reflections would land rather than assuming the television will either eliminate or always suffer from them.

The same review observed blooming and reduced contrast when viewing off-center. The BRAVIA 7 II is therefore a better fit when most viewers sit relatively close to the center of the screen. If people regularly watch from wide seating positions, the off-axis tradeoff matters as much as the color and contrast seen from the main seat (TechRadar).

How capable is it for gaming?

The BRAVIA 7 II supports 4K/120 Hz, variable refresh rate (VRR), auto low latency mode (ALLM), and Dolby Vision gaming, according to TechRadar. The reviewer measured input lag of 10.4 ms at 4K/60 Hz and 5.7 ms at 1080p/120 Hz on the tested unit. These are measurements at those specific resolutions and refresh rates, not a single universal input-lag figure.

The key connection limit is that only two of the four HDMI inputs are HDMI 2.1; the other two are HDMI 2.0. If you have more than two modern consoles or a gaming PC and want to connect several directly for HDMI 2.1 features, count your devices before buying. You may need to swap cables or use a compatible receiver or switch, and should verify its support for the formats you use (TechRadar).

What features and sound does it include?

Sony lists Dolby Vision, HDR10, and HLG, along with Google TV, Dolby Atmos, and DTS:X support. PlayStation-focused features include Auto HDR Tone Mapping and Auto Genre Picture Mode. Sony says Gemini is available only on select models and with a software update, so its availability should not be assumed for every regional version. Regional specifications can also vary (Sony U.S.).

Audio hardware differs by size, according to TechRadar: the 65-, 75-, and 85-inch versions have a 40 W system with two full-range speakers and two subwoofers, while 50- and 55-inch versions use two full-range speakers and two tweeters. The reviewer considered the built-in sound competent but suggested considering a soundbar. That is an option for listeners seeking more impact or separation, not a requirement for using the TV (TechRadar).

Which sizes are available, and what does the BRAVIA 7 II cost?

Sony Japan lists six sizes, but availability and model numbers vary by market. Prices below are U.S. list prices reported in Tom’s Guide’s 2026 article; they are article-era figures, not guaranteed current prices or a promise that each size is currently in stock.

Screen size U.S. list price reported by Tom’s Guide (2026)
50 inches $1,599.99
55 inches $2,099.99
65 inches $2,599.99
75 inches $3,099.99
85 inches $3,999.99
98 inches $8,999.99

The displayed price on Sony’s U.S. page for the 75-inch K75XR70M2 was $2,299.99 when that page was accessed; it is a dated listing snapshot, not a stable or guaranteed current price. TechRadar reported the 65-inch launch price as $2,599 in the U.S., £2,299 in the U.K., and AU$3,299 in Australia. These figures refer to different markets and publication contexts, so check the live price for the exact size and model suffix where you plan to buy (Sony U.S.; Tom’s Guide; TechRadar).

Who should buy the Sony BRAVIA 7 II?

It makes sense if you:

  • Want vivid color and the detailed, high-contrast image the reviewer observed from the central viewing position.
  • Play games on a console or PC and can use the two HDMI 2.1 inputs for your high-bandwidth sources.
  • Can control light in the room or do not mind some visible reflections.
  • Usually watch from seats near the center of the screen.

Consider another option if you:

  • Need more than two HDMI 2.1 connections for multiple consoles and other sources.
  • Watch in a bright room where reflections would fall across the screen, especially during dark content.
  • Have viewers spread widely across the room and prioritize consistent contrast from off-center seats.
  • Are comparing it with OLED or another Mini LED/RGB television: compare similar sizes and local prices, then weigh reflection handling, viewing angle, HDMI 2.1 count, HDR format support, refresh rate, and room conditions rather than treating panel type alone as decisive.

Verdict

The BRAVIA 7 II combines wide color, strong measured brightness in TechRadar’s tested modes, and useful 4K/120 Hz gaming support. Its practical compromises are just as important: a reflective screen, off-axis blooming and contrast loss reported by the reviewer, and only two HDMI 2.1 inputs. It is most compelling for buyers who will watch near the center of the screen, can manage room reflections, and can find the right size at a price that makes sense locally.
