The Sony K-65XR50 is the US model number for the 65-inch 2025 BRAVIA 5: a 4K Mini LED LCD TV with local dimming, a native 120 Hz panel, Dolby Vision, and useful console-gaming features. Its strongest case is a crisp, well-processed picture with controlled contrast; its trade-offs are less brightness and dimming precision than the BRAVIA 7, only two HDMI ports with the full gaming feature set, and restrained bass. It makes the most sense as a capable mid-range TV, not a substitute for Sony’s higher-end models.
What the Sony K-65XR50 is
Sony’s US listing identifies the K-65XR50 as a 65-inch Class Mini LED 4K HDR Google TV with Gemini. It belongs to the 2025 BRAVIA 5 family. The screen is an LCD panel illuminated by Mini LEDs, with local dimming to control brightness across parts of the image. Sony specifies 3840 × 2160 resolution and a native 120 Hz refresh rate. Sony’s US product listing and Sony’s model specifications are the references for the product identity and manufacturer specifications.
That combination puts it between basic LED TVs and Sony’s more expensive Mini LED sets. Local dimming can improve contrast compared with a conventional LCD backlight, but it does not give each pixel independent control as an OLED panel does.
How good is the picture?
Contrast, brightness, and dark scenes
Independent reviews identify contrast and backlight control as the BRAVIA 5’s main strengths. TechRadar reported crisp, vibrant images and measured nearly 900 nits on a 10% HDR window and 595 nits on a full-field HDR window in its review. Those are TechRadar’s test results, not Sony guarantees, and actual viewing depends on settings and content. TechRadar also counted approximately 240 local-dimming zones in its review; that is the publication’s count, rather than a Sony specification. TechRadar’s BRAVIA 5 review gives its measurement context.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. - Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
What Hi-Fi? describes stable-looking blacks and restrained visible blooming in its viewing, while noting that very dark material can appear greyer than on the BRAVIA 7 or BRAVIA 9. TechRadar likewise says the BRAVIA 5 has fewer dimming zones and lower brightness than the step-up BRAVIA 7. The practical distinction is that the 5 can deliver convincing contrast, but it has less headroom for bright highlights and less precise control in demanding scenes than the higher model. What Hi-Fi?’s review was published on December 19, 2025.
Detail, color, and motion
Reviewers praise the TV’s sharp 4K detail, color balance, HD upscaling, and motion handling. What Hi-Fi? highlights a MotionFlow True Cinema option for 24-frame-per-second films. These processing strengths matter if much of your viewing is streamed or broadcast below 4K, or if you watch film content and want motion to look controlled without relying on an overly smooth effect.

HDR formats
Sony lists HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision support. TechRadar reports that HDR10+ is not supported. If a particular streaming service or disc collection is important to you, check which HDR format it uses rather than assuming every format is covered.
Is it good for gaming?
For a console capable of 4K at 120 Hz, the K-65XR50 offers the key basics: Sony lists VRR on HDMI 3 and 4, and ALLM on HDMI 1 through 4. TechRadar says only two HDMI ports support the TV’s full gaming feature set, including 4K/120 Hz. Its review measured 13.3 ms input lag at 60 Hz in low-latency mode; that is TechRadar’s result under that condition, not a universal figure for every refresh rate or setting. Sony also lists dedicated PS5 features. TechRadar’s review discusses the port and gaming limitations.

It is a less complete fit for PC gamers who want a higher refresh ceiling or variable-refresh compatibility specific to their graphics card: TechRadar reports no 144 Hz or 165 Hz mode, AMD FreeSync, or Nvidia G-Sync. If you connect several consoles or a PC and want each to use the best gaming features, plan around having only two full-feature HDMI inputs. The TV has four HDMI inputs in total, but the count alone does not mean all four offer the same gaming capabilities.
What are the connections and physical dimensions?
Sony specifies four side-facing HDMI inputs, VRR on HDMI 3 and 4, ALLM on HDMI 1–4, and eARC/ARC. The eARC/ARC connection supports sending TV audio to an external soundbar or audio system.

| Configuration | Dimensions | Weight |
|---|---|---|
| Without stand | 57 × 32.88 × 2.38 inches | 54.9 lb |
| With stand, inside position | 57 × 34 × 13.63 inches | 58 lb |
Sony lists a 300 × 300 mm VESA mounting pattern. For a wall mount, check that the mount supports that pattern and a load above the TV’s 54.9 lb weight without the stand; confirm wall construction and installation requirements as well. Before placing the TV on furniture, measure both the available width and depth and verify that the stand position works with the surface and any soundbar.

How is the built-in sound?
TechRadar describes the built-in audio as clean and detailed, but says bass is lightweight. Dialogue and everyday viewing may be adequately clear, while films, games, or music that rely on low-frequency impact are likely to benefit from an external audio system. A soundbar is optional rather than a prerequisite, and the TV’s eARC/ARC support provides a connection route.

Who should consider the BRAVIA 5?
- A good fit: viewers who value Sony’s image processing, crisp detail, balanced color, controlled Mini LED contrast, and 4K/120 Hz console gaming.
- Consider a step-up model: if your priority is higher brightness or more refined dimming in very dark scenes, since reviews place the BRAVIA 7 above this set on those points.
- Look elsewhere or check carefully: if a gaming PC requires 144 Hz or more, FreeSync or G-Sync, or if several devices need the TV’s full gaming feature set at the same time.
- Audition the sound if possible: built-in audio is reported as clear, but bass output is limited if you want a more substantial movie or game soundtrack.
What did the TV cost?
Sony’s US store showed $1,399.99 for the K-65XR50 on October 7, 2026, marked down $100 from $1,499.99. The listing also advertised a $100 soundbar bundle discount. These were US offers visible on that date, not guaranteed current prices or prices for other regions. Check the live listing and local retailers before comparing value; the set’s appeal depends partly on its current street price. Sony’s US product page is the source for the dated offer.
