Choose the Sony BRAVIA 3 II if a genuine 100-inch screen is your first requirement. The US model documented by Sony is K-100XR30M2. TCL’s substantiated US alternative, the 98QM7K, is a 98-inch television with QD-Mini LED hardware, a 144Hz panel refresh rate and VRR up to 144Hz, but it is not a 100-inch set. Hisense has reported strong sales share for 100-inch-and-larger televisions, yet no specific current Hisense model or regional specification is established here, so it cannot be ranked fairly against the Sony and TCL models.

The practical buying decision therefore depends on your priority: exact screen size, documented gaming hardware, Google TV, installation constraints or the total delivered cost. The specifications below come from manufacturer material, not independent head-to-head measurements.

The models actually documented in the US comparison

Start with the country and model code, not only the brand or diagonal size. Sony’s US product page presents the BRAVIA 3 II as a 100-inch-class 4K HDR LED Google TV for 2026, while Sony’s support page identifies the set as model K-100XR30M2. The product-page URL uses a model string that looks different from the support identifier, so check the retail box, listing and regional support page before treating two listings as the same television.

TCL’s US documentation covers the 98QM7K: a 98-inch viewable-class 4K QD-Mini LED television with Google TV, local dimming, four HDMI inputs, a 144Hz panel refresh rate and VRR support up to 144Hz. A 98-inch screen is close to 100 inches in shopping terms, but it is not a 100-inch model.

The separate 98C7K page on TCL’s global site is a regional reference, not a substitute for the US 98QM7K. TCL lists the 98C7K as a 98-inch QD-Mini LED television with 144Hz native refresh and up to 2,048 dimming zones, while also warning that specifications and features vary by size. Do not transfer those 98C7K figures to the US model without a local specification sheet.

What the Hisense statistic does—and does not—tell you

Hisense reported that its televisions measuring 100 inches and larger represented 56.7% of global volume share in the first quarter of 2025, attributing the figure to Omdia. That is a company statement about a historical category measurement, not an independent current market estimate, a brightness test or evidence that a particular Hisense model is better than Sony or TCL.

No current Hisense 100-inch model number, regional product page or comparable specification is established in the material for this comparison. To add Hisense responsibly, first select the country, identify the exact model code sold there and obtain its official dimensions, panel type, refresh rate, HDMI capabilities, smart-TV software and mounting data. Until then, leave Hisense as an open candidate rather than filling the gap with a generic brand comparison. The company’s release is available at Hisense USA’s June 6, 2025 announcement.

Picture hardware: LED versus QD-Mini LED

Sony’s documented position

Sony identifies the BRAVIA 3 II as a 4K HDR LED Google TV. The cited pages do not establish a measured peak-brightness result, contrast ratio, dimming-zone count, reflection score, viewing-angle result or color-accuracy measurement. They also do not provide enough evidence to say that the Sony lacks any particular HDR format or processing feature. Treat the LED description as a product category, not as a laboratory ranking.

TCL’s documented position

TCL identifies the US 98QM7K as a 4K QD-Mini LED set with local dimming. Mini LED generally describes the backlight architecture and local dimming describes the ability to control portions of that backlight; neither label alone predicts black-level behavior, blooming or HDR brightness in a specific room. TCL also lists the 98QM7K as a QLED model, but the cited listing is still manufacturer material rather than an independent test.

Do not import the 98C7K zone count

TCL’s global 98C7K page lists up to 2,048 dimming zones. That number belongs to the regional 98C7K reference. TCL explicitly says features can vary by screen size, so it must not be presented as a specification of the US 98QM7K or used to declare a winner.

How to compare HDR in practice

For exact-model reviews or store demonstrations, look for independently measured SDR and HDR brightness, full-screen versus windowed results, contrast with local dimming enabled, blooming around subtitles, tone mapping, uniformity, reflection handling and viewing-angle changes. Keep the screen size and test method attached to every result. A measurement from a 65-inch sibling does not automatically describe a 98- or 100-inch panel, because larger panels can use different backlights, power limits and calibration.

Gaming and motion: where TCL has the clearer specification

The 98QM7K has a documented 144Hz panel refresh rate and VRR support up to 144Hz. TCL also lists four HDMI inputs. Those facts make it the easier model to shortlist when high-frame-rate PC gaming or compatible console gaming is a central requirement, but they do not establish input lag, image quality in game mode or the exact combination of features available on every HDMI port.

Check signal acceptance, not just the panel number

A panel’s native refresh rate and the signals its HDMI ports accept are different questions. Before purchase, confirm the target-region manual for 4K at 120Hz or 144Hz, variable-refresh ranges, automatic low-latency mode, eARC, chroma formats and whether more than one port supports the gaming mode you need. Verify whether a feature works simultaneously with Dolby Vision or another HDR mode if that combination matters to your console or PC.

What is known about Sony

The cited Sony pages establish the K-100XR30M2 model and 100-inch class but do not provide a comparable refresh-rate, VRR, input-lag or HDMI-feature table. That is an evidence limit, not proof that the Sony performs poorly. Obtain the exact regional manual or specification sheet before choosing it for a gaming setup.

Motion beyond refresh rate

Refresh rate does not by itself settle motion quality. Compare response behavior, motion interpolation controls, judder with 24-frame film, game-mode latency and VRR stability from reviews of the exact size and model. Avoid applying a result from a smaller family member unless the reviewer confirms that the panel and processing platform are the same.

Smart-TV software and app requirements

Both the Sony BRAVIA 3 II listing and the US TCL 98QM7K listing name Google TV. That gives the two documented models a common starting point for app discovery, profiles, casting and voice-control features, but app catalogs, tuner functions, language support and service availability can change by country and software version.

Make a market-specific checklist before ordering:

  • Confirm that every streaming, sports or broadcaster app you use is available in the target country.
  • Check whether the app supports 4K, HDR and surround formats on the television’s current software.
  • Verify casting protocol, voice-control language and privacy settings if those functions matter to your household.
  • Ask how long security and platform updates are expected to remain available; do not infer a support commitment from the Google TV name alone.

If you plan to use an external streaming box, compare the number and placement of HDMI ports, eARC behavior and remote-control integration rather than choosing solely on the built-in interface.

Sound and external audio

The supplied model pages do not establish a comparative speaker configuration, dialogue score or listening result for either cited television. A 100-inch or 98-inch screen can dominate a room while built-in speakers remain limited by cabinet depth and placement, so decide whether a soundbar, AV receiver or powered speakers are part of the installation.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Confirm the exact set’s eARC support, optical output, Bluetooth audio behavior, center-channel mode and lip-sync controls in its manual. If an AV receiver will sit between the source and television, check that it passes the video refresh rate and HDR formats you intend to use. Do not treat a manufacturer’s speaker-wattage figure as a substitute for dialogue clarity or bass measurements.

Installation, mounting and room fit

The two cited VESA patterns are different

Sony lists a 600 × 400 mm VESA hole pitch for K-100XR30M2. TCL lists 600 × 500 mm for the US 98QM7K. A mount that fits one pattern may not fit the other, even if its advertised load rating is high enough. Match the mount’s hole pattern, supported weight, screw size and extension range to the exact television manual.

Measure the complete route

Obtain the television’s full width, height and depth with and without its stand, plus shipping-carton dimensions and weight. Then measure every doorway, stair turn, elevator, hallway and cabinet opening between delivery point and final position. Include packaging clearance and the angle needed to rotate the carton. Large-panel delivery can fail before the set reaches the room, and a return may require the original packaging.

Check the wall and viewing position

  • Locate studs or confirm that the wall structure can carry the television and mount together.
  • Reserve clearance for ventilation, power plugs, HDMI cables and any external box.
  • Check that the chosen mount can center the screen without striking adjacent cabinets or doors.
  • Consider reflections from windows and lamps; a very large glossy panel can expose reflections that were tolerable on a smaller set.
  • Confirm that seating is centered enough for the panel’s viewing-angle characteristics, which must be established by testing rather than assumed from the brand.

Plan handling and service

Ask the retailer whether delivery is threshold, room-of-choice or in-home installation, whether two-person or specialist handling is included, and who is responsible for wall mounting. Photograph the carton and screen during delivery, keep all packaging until the return period ends and test for panel damage before the crew leaves if the delivery terms require immediate reporting.

Total cost: compare the delivered installation, not a sticker price

No comparable current local prices, promotions, stock status, installation fees or return terms are established for these models. Those figures change by country, retailer and date, so a responsible price verdict requires a quote close to purchase.

Build a line-item total for each exact listing:

  1. Television price and any recurring membership required for a promotion.
  2. Sales tax, environmental fees and delivery charges.
  3. Room-of-choice delivery, unpacking, stand assembly or professional wall mounting.
  4. Mount hardware rated for the model’s weight and VESA pattern.
  5. Long HDMI cables, surge protection and any sound system or receiver.
  6. Extended warranty or service-plan cost, if considered.
  7. Potential return shipping or restocking exposure for a damaged or unsuitable large panel.

Record the currency, retailer, date, model code and whether the price is promotional. A lower shelf price can disappear once specialist delivery, a correctly rated mount and installation are included.

A repeatable comparison process

  1. Set the market. Write down the country, electrical standard and retailer region. Do not mix a US listing with a global or European model code.
  2. Lock the identity. For Sony, verify K-100XR30M2 against the box and support page. For TCL, verify that the listing says 98QM7K, not the regional 98C7K.
  3. Decide whether 100 inches is non-negotiable. If yes, the 98-inch TCL is a size-adjacent alternative, not an equivalent.
  4. List the sources you need. Download the exact manual and specification sheet for dimensions, weight, ports, refresh modes, HDR formats, audio outputs and VESA data.
  5. Match gaming requirements. Write the maximum resolution and frame rate for each console or PC, then verify port-level support, VRR range and low-latency behavior.
  6. Evaluate the room. Measure the wall, seating, reflection sources and delivery path before ordering a screen this large.
  7. Obtain delivered quotes. Compare television, tax, delivery, installation, mount and return terms on the same date.
  8. Use independent tests carefully. Prefer reviews of the exact size and regional model. Record test patterns and firmware versions when comparing brightness, contrast, uniformity, motion and input lag.
  9. Confirm the return plan. Ask who collects a 100-inch or 98-inch set, how damage is reported and whether the carton must be retained.

Which buyer profile fits each documented option?

Choose Sony when the physical 100-inch target comes first

The Sony is the only model in this evidence set identified as a 100-inch-class television. It is the logical starting point when filling a particular 100-inch wall opening matters more than having a published 144Hz specification. Confirm the K-100XR30M2 identifier, dimensions, gaming support and installation details before paying.

Shortlist TCL when documented high-refresh hardware matters

The US 98QM7K has the clearest published gaming specification here: 144Hz panel refresh and VRR up to 144Hz, alongside QD-Mini LED and local dimming. Select it only if a 98-inch screen satisfies the room and viewing plan, and verify the exact HDMI feature set for your region.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Keep Hisense open until a model is named

Hisense’s 56.7% category-share statement may explain why its large-screen range deserves investigation, but it cannot answer which current model fits your room or gaming system. Add a Hisense set only after checking its exact regional code and comparable measurements.

Common comparison mistakes

  • Calling 98 inches “100 inches.” Use the manufacturer’s stated class and keep the actual diagonal visible.
  • Mixing regional codes. The US 98QM7K and global 98C7K are separate references; size-dependent specifications cannot be assumed identical.
  • Turning marketing into a test result. QD-Mini LED, local dimming and 144Hz describe capabilities, not measured blooming, brightness or input lag.
  • Assuming a family specification scales upward. A smaller sibling’s panel, dimming system or port layout may differ from a 98- or 100-inch version.
  • Buying a universal mount without checking VESA. Sony’s cited pattern is 600 × 400 mm; TCL’s is 600 × 500 mm.
  • Ignoring delivery logistics. A screen that fits the wall can still fail through a doorway, staircase or elevator.
  • Comparing shelf prices only. Delivery, installation, mounting hardware, tax and return handling can materially change the total.
  • Using a category statistic as a product review. Hisense’s Q1 2025 share statement says nothing about the picture or reliability of an individual current model.

What to verify immediately before checkout

  • The exact model code printed on the retailer page and box.
  • Screen dimensions, stand dimensions, shipping-carton size and packed weight.
  • VESA pattern, screw requirements and mount load rating.
  • HDMI port capabilities, 4K high-refresh support, VRR and eARC for your equipment.
  • HDR formats and any limitations when gaming at high refresh rates.
  • App availability and language support in your country.
  • Delivery route, in-home placement, installation responsibility and damage-report deadline.
  • Return window, pickup procedure and packaging requirements.
  • A dated, currency-specific total that includes every required service and accessory.
