The practical answer: enable the in-game console with cheatstick, open it with F1, then use additem, spawnitem, or removeitem followed by either a numeric item ID or the item’s exact internal name. The mapping is build-sensitive, and some entries in an item list are removed, restricted, or not spawnable, so treat the maintained list for your installed build as the authority.
What Sons of the Forest item IDs do
An item ID is a numeric key that the game’s console can use to identify an item. The same item also has an internal name, such as log or modernaxe. The console accepts either form for the principal item commands, which gives you two ways to request an item:
- Numeric ID: a number such as
78or358. - Internal name: the exact name used by the game, such as
logorshotgun.
The ID is not a universal description that exists independently of the game version. A list can contain rows that were removed, disabled, restricted, or changed between builds. For that reason, use an item table that identifies the installed build and shows the item’s status rather than copying an undated list into a command.
There are three different outcomes, and choosing the right command matters:

spawnitem is generally the least forgiving of the three because it follows the item’s internal-name mapping more strictly. An ID that works with additem can therefore fail with spawnitem even when the number appears in a current-looking list.
Enable the console in a game
The console is enabled from inside an active game session. There is no text prompt or visible confirmation when you type the activation word, so enter it exactly and continue to the keyboard shortcut.
- Start a new game or load an existing save.
- While you are in play, type
cheatstick. Do not expect a chat box or command line to appear while entering it. - Press
F1to open the console. - Enter a command in the form
command target, replacingtargetwith a numeric ID or the exact internal item name. - Press Enter and check the expected destination: inventory for
additem, the world forspawnitem, or inventory removal forremoveitem.
For example, an inventory addition can be entered as additem 78 or additem log. A world spawn can be entered as spawnitem 340 or spawnitem guitar. To remove the same kind of item from your inventory, use removeitem 78 or removeitem log. Keep the command, a single space, and the target together; do not add punctuation, quotation marks, or the angle brackets shown in syntax examples.

Representative item IDs and internal names
The following entries illustrate the format used by the maintained item table. The category is useful when deciding whether an inventory addition or a world spawn makes sense, but it does not guarantee that the item is currently spawnable.

These are examples, not a promise that every row in an item list behaves the same way. Before using an unfamiliar entry, check whether the row is marked working, removed, disabled, restricted, or name-only in the list for your build. If a row has no usable ID, use its documented internal name only when the list identifies that name as functional.
Choosing an ID or an internal name
When a numeric ID is convenient
Numeric IDs are quick to type and easy to store in a personal checklist. They are useful for commands such as additem 78 when the list explicitly maps the number to the item in your installed build. They are also convenient when an item name is long or easy to mistype.

When the internal name is safer
Use the exact internal name when a command is sensitive to name mapping, especially spawnitem. Names are lowercase in the documented examples and contain no spaces: shotgunrail, compactpistol, and nightvisiongoggles. Do not turn a display label into a guessed name. The game may use a different internal spelling, omit a space, or expose only a name even when a numeric column is present.
Do not mix a display label with a console target
“Shotgun Rail” is a readable label; shotgunrail is the documented internal target. Likewise, “Night Vision Goggles” maps to nightvisiongoggles in the examples. Copy the target exactly from the current item table instead of removing spaces or punctuation yourself.
Why an item command can fail
The console does not open
- Confirm that you typed
cheatstickduring gameplay, not at a title screen or in a menu. - Press
F1after typing it. The activation word does not display a prompt. - If your keyboard uses function-layer keys, make sure the keypress is actually sending
F1rather than a hardware control assigned to that key. - Once the console appears, test a documented, simple form such as
additem 78rather than beginning with a restricted weapon or attachment.
The command is rejected or has no visible effect
- Check the command spelling:
additem,spawnitem, andremoveitemare separate commands. - Use one space between the command and target, with no quotation marks.
- Verify that the target is either a current numeric ID or the exact internal name. A display name, an old number, or a misspelled name can fail.
- Check the row’s status. A removed, disabled, restricted, or non-working entry is not made usable merely by appearing in a list.
additem works but spawnitem fails
This is a known distinction in the documented behavior. spawnitem follows the internal name mapping more strictly. Try the exact internal name from the current-build table—for example, use spawnitem guitar rather than relying on spawnitem 340. If the name also fails, check for a game update and confirm that the table matches your installed build.

An item was collected but cannot be spawned again
The item list and wiki documentation note that some items cannot be spawned after they have been collected. Many weapons, tools, and outfits fall into this type of restriction. Treat “listed” and “spawnable” as different properties: a row can identify an item while the game still blocks a new world spawn. In that situation, use the row’s documented status and do not keep changing numbers at random.
A command works in one save or build but not another
Console mappings are tied to the game’s current data. The current-build cross-check identifies Steam build 20228174; a different build can have different mappings or behavior. Record the platform and build when you save a working command set, and recheck the table after an update. This is particularly important for spawnitem, where internal-name matching is stricter.
Removing items safely
Remove one item
Use removeitem <ID or name> for a targeted cleanup. For example, removeitem log removes logs from your inventory, while removeitem 355 targets the compact pistol ID shown in the example table. Use the same identifier style that you verified for adding the item, and inspect your inventory afterward.

Remove nearly everything
The broader removeallitems command removes nearly all inventory, but documented exceptions remain. It is not equivalent to a guaranteed empty inventory. Consult the exception list before using it, especially if you need a controlled test or want to preserve a particular item. For a reversible experiment, targeted removeitem commands are less destructive.

- Identify the build. Note your platform and installed game build, then open the maintained item table that corresponds to it. Steam build
20228174is the build identified by the current cross-check, not a universal requirement for every installation. - Read the whole row. Record the numeric ID, internal name, category, and status. Pay attention to removed, disabled, restricted, not-working, and name-only labels.
- Start with inventory. Run
additem <verified target>. This separates an identifier problem from a world-spawn restriction. - Confirm the result. Check the inventory for the expected item. If it is absent, recheck the exact target and row status before trying another command.
- Test a world spawn only when needed. Run
spawnitem <exact internal name>, particularly when the numeric form was accepted byadditembut not byspawnitem. - Clean up deliberately. Use
removeitemfor the test object or item. Reserveremoveallitemsfor cases where its documented exceptions are acceptable. - Keep a short record. Write down the build, command, target form, and result. That record makes it clear whether a later failure came from a typo, a changed mapping, or a newly restricted item.
Practical command patterns
Replace the placeholder target with the exact ID or internal name from your current table. The angle brackets indicate substitution and are not typed.

Check the exception list first. |
Do not infer that a successful additem proves the corresponding spawnitem command will work. The commands have different outcomes and, in the case of world spawning, stricter internal-name matching.
What the item list can and cannot tell you
A well-maintained list can tell you the current ID-to-name mapping, category, and whether an entry is working, removed, disabled, restricted, or otherwise limited. It cannot turn every database row into a guaranteed console result. Some entries have no usable ID, some rely on a name, and some cannot be spawned after collection.
Use the list as a lookup authority, not as a promise that every command works in every save. When behavior differs from the row, first check the installed build and then try the exact internal name for the command you are using. That approach is more reliable than substituting nearby numbers or guessing at names.
