The Sonicmax Slice 10 is a handheld ultrasonic craft knife intended for support removal and detail cleanup on 3D prints. In CNET reviewer James Bricknell’s reported use, it sliced plastic best on PLA and ABS, and its small blade helped with complex cuts. It was not a universal fix: some low-melting-point plastics still melted, and the tool worked less well on cloth. Bricknell’s August 27, 2026 review is the basis for these observations; they are not controlled comparative test results.
What the Sonicmax Slice 10 is meant to do
The Slice 10 is a handheld ultrasonic craft knife for removing supports, burrs and small defects from prints. Rather than treating it as a bulk-removal tool, its most relevant use is controlled cleanup where a small blade can reach a detailed area. Bricknell described the blade as useful for complex cuts.
The review does not establish that it replaces ordinary support-removal tools or is faster or more precise than them. It names no controlled comparison with flush cutters, hobby knives or other ultrasonic cutters. For a decision, separate the job into bulk support removal and fine detail work, then consider how much control the cut needs and whether the material might melt.
How it performed on different materials
Bricknell reports using the tool on PLA and ABS, as well as leather and DTF plastic. He found plastics sliced best, was impressed by its performance on leather, and found it less effective on cloth.

That is an account of one reviewer’s use, not a complete compatibility list. The review does not provide a controlled test across plastic formulations, print settings or material thicknesses, so it cannot establish how the Slice 10 will behave with every filament or workpiece.
Plastic can still melt
Although the tool is described with low-temperature-operation claims, Bricknell reports that it can still melt some low-melting-point plastics. That makes careful, gradual work important: watch the cut and the surrounding surface, and stop if the material begins to deform. The review does not identify which plastics or conditions trigger melting, so it does not support a material-by-material guarantee.

Leather and cloth are not interchangeable cases
The reviewer’s positive impression of leather does not mean the cutter handles every flexible material equally well. His report says it worked less well on cloth. The source does not give fabric types, cut settings or a measured comparison, so these findings should be read as specific observations rather than a general ranking of all textiles.

Safety and handling considerations
The review describes an automatic shutoff when the tool is set down, preventing blade vibration in that state. That behavior is useful, but it does not make the sharp blade harmless, establish a formal safety certification, or remove the need to handle and store the knife carefully. The cited review does not provide certification details or a complete safety specification.

Should you consider it for 3D-print cleanup?
The reported strengths point to a possible role in detailed plastic cleanup and complex cuts, with leather as another material the reviewer found promising. The main cautions are that some plastics can still melt, cloth worked less well in this reviewer’s experience, and the evidence is a single review rather than comparative testing.
Availability also needs checking. CNET reported a Kickstarter campaign at the time of its August 27, 2026 article; that does not establish whether the Slice 10 is currently sold, its current price, or whether a particular retailer listing is genuine. The review mentions extra rechargeable batteries but does not identify a compatible battery part number. Confirm the exact model, seller, current stock and accessory compatibility before purchase.
