Short answer: if you want both the remastered Sonic Generations experience and the separate Shadow Generations campaign, SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS is the straightforward value comparison because both experiences are sold together. If you only want one or two older Sonic games, buying those titles individually—or using a bundle or subscription you already pay for—may cost less. There is no defensible universal “collection saves X%” figure because prices, editions, regions, discounts and games already owned differ.
The phrase “Shadow Collection” is informal. SEGA’s official product is SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS, a combined release rather than a product formally titled Shadow Collection.
What is actually included in SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS?
The release contains two distinct experiences in one product. SEGA describes it as “Shadow the Hedgehog is back with Classic and Modern Sonic in SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS, an all-new collection featuring two unique experiences!” The two parts are:

|---|---|---|
| Sonic Generations | A remastered version of the earlier Sonic Generations game. | Included in SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS. |
| Shadow Generations | A separate campaign focused on Shadow within the combined release. | The official listings consulted present it as included in SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS, not as an independently listed purchase. |
“Separate campaign” means that Shadow has his own substantial playable component inside the package. It does not establish that Shadow Generations can be bought as a stand-alone game. This distinction matters when you compare a combined purchase with buying older Sonic titles one at a time.

What the documented prices show—and what they do not
The available figures are useful reference points, not a promise of today’s price in every country. The Steam amounts below were a retrieved United States listing snapshot in 2026; storefront prices can change. The Japanese amount was SEGA’s launch-era suggested retail price in 2024 and includes tax.
| Product or route | Price evidence | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS Standard Edition on Steam | $49.99 | United States Steam listing snapshot retrieved in 2026; not a guaranteed current price. |
| SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS Digital Deluxe Edition on Steam | $59.99 | United States Steam listing snapshot retrieved in 2026; not a guaranteed current price. |
| SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS Standard Edition in Japan | ¥6,589 including tax | SEGA’s suggested retail price at launch in 2024; not a current global quote. |
| Sonic the Hedgehog Legacy Bundle on Steam | $59.99 USD | Price stated in SEGA’s 2024 FAQ when explaining where the original Sonic Generations remained available; the FAQ says contents and price vary by region. |
There is no supported total for “the Sonic games individually.” That total depends on which games you mean, which editions count, your platform and country, current sale prices, and whether you already own any of them. A claim that the combined release always saves a fixed percentage would therefore be misleading.
Choose by the experience you want
If you want both campaigns
Buy SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS and compare Standard and Digital Deluxe editions. It is the evidenced route that places the remastered Sonic Generations and Shadow Generations campaigns in one purchase. Trying to recreate that exact content by buying older Sonic games separately would not give you the new Shadow campaign, because the official listings checked do not list Shadow Generations as a separate product.

Do not assume the combined release is automatically the cheapest option. Make a list of the specific older games and versions you actually intend to play, then price that list on your platform. A single older title on sale, a bundle you already qualify for, or a game you already own can make the individual route better value for this narrower goal.
If you mainly want Shadow
The official product pages consulted do not show Shadow Generations as an independently purchasable game. You should therefore treat the combined release as the purchase option for that campaign unless your local storefront later lists a different product. Do not pay a third party for a supposed stand-alone Shadow Generations code without checking that the listing is legitimate and platform-compatible.

If you already own Sonic Generations
Existing ownership changes the calculation. You may be paying for a remaster of an experience you already have while gaining the Shadow campaign and any other included content. Compare the current price of the combined game with the value you place on the new Shadow content, rather than counting the full price of Sonic Generations again. Check the exact edition and platform: ownership on one storefront or console does not automatically provide a license on another.
Standard versus Digital Deluxe
The Standard Edition is the baseline comparison for the two core experiences. Steam’s Digital Deluxe listing describes additional materials, including music tracks, a Terios skin, behind-the-scenes art and a movie pack. These extras are optional; they do not change the basic fact that the Sonic Generations remaster and Shadow Generations campaign are included in the combined release.
| Edition | Core content | Documented extras | Value question |
|---|---|---|---|
| Standard | Remastered Sonic Generations plus Shadow Generations campaign. | None of the Deluxe-only materials are listed as part of this edition. | Best baseline if you want the games and do not value collector or cosmetic additions. |
| Digital Deluxe | The same two core experiences. | Music tracks, Terios skin, behind-the-scenes art and a movie pack, according to the Steam listing. | Worth the premium only if you specifically want those extras; do not treat them as additional campaigns. |
Using the retrieved United States Steam snapshot, Deluxe was $10 more than Standard ($59.99 versus $49.99). That difference is a dated example, not a standing price rule. In another region, during a sale, or on a physical edition, the gap can differ.
How to calculate the individual-games option
Use a written list rather than comparing the combined product with an undefined “Sonic collection.” The following process keeps the comparison honest.
- Define the target set. Write down the exact Sonic games, remasters and editions you would buy. Exclude titles you would not realistically play.
- Choose one platform and region. Record the storefront or retailer, currency, edition, and whether the copy is physical or digital. Do not mix a discounted PC price with a full-price console comparison.
- Record current prices. Note the date and whether each figure is a sale, a recurring subscription entitlement, a one-time promotion or a normal listed price.
- Subtract games you already own. Count only new spending. Also check whether your existing license includes an upgrade or remastered version; the available evidence does not establish a universal upgrade policy.
- Add the selected titles. The result is your personal individual-purchase total. There is no single correct total for every reader.
- Compare like with like. Set that total against the Standard Edition if you want core gameplay, or against Deluxe only when you genuinely want its music, skin, art and movie materials.
- Check access conditions. A subscription catalog, family library or physical copy may reduce immediate spending but can have different ownership or access terms than a purchased license.
A simple table or spreadsheet should include columns for title, edition, platform, region, current price, sale end date, owned already, and whether the title is essential to your plan. This prevents a low headline price from hiding a different edition or an expiring promotion.

PC buyers: the original Sonic Generations delisting caveat
SEGA’s FAQ says the original version of Sonic Generations was removed as a stand-alone Steam purchase on September 9, 2024. The FAQ says it remains part of the Sonic the Hedgehog Legacy Bundle, which it listed at $59.99 USD at that time, while also warning that bundle contents and price vary by region.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?
Pick the symptom - the matching free tool is one click away.
This affects the individual-games calculation for PC readers. You may not be able to add the original Sonic Generations to your cart by itself, so compare the combined release with the specific Legacy Bundle available in your country. A bundle price is not automatically the price of the one game you wanted: inspect every included title and decide whether those contents have value for you.
The delisting statement concerns the original stand-alone Steam purchase. It does not mean every console or physical edition has disappeared, and it does not establish current stock or pricing. Platform-specific storefronts can have different products and policies.
Subscription access can change your incremental cost
The United States PlayStation product page indicates catalog access through PlayStation Plus Extra. Catalog availability can change, and a subscription has its own fee and renewal terms. Check your local PlayStation catalog before buying, confirm that the exact edition and platform are covered, and decide whether you would keep the subscription for other games.
For a subscriber, the relevant comparison is often not “zero versus $49.99.” It is the additional cost of maintaining the subscription for the period you need, plus any loss of access if the game leaves the catalog, versus owning a copy permanently. The United States catalog indication should not be generalized to every country or subscription tier.

Physical, digital and regional considerations
Physical copies
A physical SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS copy can be attractive if you resell games, lend discs or cartridges, or want a shelf copy. Availability, included code requirements and platform compatibility are retailer- and region-specific. Compare the complete delivered price—not just the sticker price—with the equivalent digital edition.
Digital purchases
Digital editions are tied to the account and platform rules of the storefront where you buy them. The Steam prices above are United States examples. Console stores may use different currencies, taxes, discounts and editions, so use the listing for your account rather than converting the US figure as if it were universal.
Launch prices versus sale prices
SEGA’s ¥6,589 Japanese MSRP describes launch pricing in 2024. The retrieved Steam amounts describe a 2026 listing snapshot. Neither figure predicts a future sale or a permanent price. If you are not in a hurry, record a normal price and the sale price separately so that a temporary discount does not distort your long-term comparison.
Value scenarios
| Your situation | Likely better-value starting point | Why |
|---|---|---|
| You want the remastered Sonic Generations and the new Shadow campaign. | SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS Standard Edition, unless Deluxe extras matter. | Both experiences are packaged together, and Shadow Generations is not listed separately in the official sources checked. |
| You want only one or two older Sonic games. | Price those titles individually, including current sales and bundles. | You may pay for content in the combined release that you will not use. |
| You own the original Sonic Generations already. | Compare the combined price with the value of Shadow Generations and the remaster differences to you. | Your existing game reduces the incremental value of buying the package for Sonic content alone. |
| You are a PC buyer seeking the original game. | Check the current Sonic the Hedgehog Legacy Bundle and the combined release side by side. | The original stand-alone Steam listing was delisted on September 9, 2024, according to SEGA’s FAQ. |
| You already subscribe to PlayStation Plus Extra. | Verify current catalog access before purchasing. | The United States PlayStation page indicates catalog access, but eligibility and catalog contents are regional and changeable. |
| You want music, art, a skin and a movie pack. | Consider Digital Deluxe only if those extras justify its premium. | Those are the documented Deluxe additions; they are not extra campaigns. |
Common mistakes that make the comparison misleading
- Treating “Shadow Collection” as an official title. Search for SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS and verify the platform and edition.
- Assuming Shadow Generations is sold alone. The official listings consulted present it inside the combined product.
- Comparing different editions. A Deluxe digital price should not be compared with a Standard physical price without accounting for the extras and format.
- Using an old launch MSRP as today’s price. The ¥6,589 figure is a 2024 Japanese launch MSRP including tax.
- Ignoring ownership. Rebuying a Sonic game you already own can make the compilation look less valuable than it is for a new buyer—or make the new Shadow content a worthwhile incremental purchase.
- Counting a subscription as ownership. Catalog access depends on an active subscription and continued availability.
- Assuming a bundle is equivalent to one game. Inspect the Legacy Bundle’s current contents and regional price before treating it as an individual purchase.
- Using a universal savings percentage. No supported individual-game total exists without a defined list, platform, region and date.
Bottom line for different buyers
For a player seeking both experiences, SONIC X SHADOW GENERATIONS is the clear product match: it combines the Sonic Generations remaster with the Shadow Generations campaign in one release. Start with Standard and pay for Deluxe only when its listed extras have real value to you.

For a player interested only in selected older Sonic games, calculate the individual route from current local prices and your existing library. That route can be cheaper, especially when a title is already owned or heavily discounted, but it does not provide the separately presented Shadow campaign.
PC buyers should account for the original Sonic Generations Steam delisting and inspect the Legacy Bundle. PlayStation subscribers should verify current local catalog access and treat the subscription’s ongoing cost and access conditions as part of the comparison.
