Short answer: an Xbox disc-to-digital upgrade for Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is not established. SEGA’s official platform listing describes the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One versions as digital-only. Xbox’s feature converts only supported Xbox One and Xbox Series X discs, and Xbox has not published a CrossWorlds-specific eligibility result. If you have a physical copy, first verify its exact market, platform and edition before troubleshooting the console.
What Xbox disc-to-digital actually does
Xbox announced its disc-to-digital program in Xbox Wire’s August 26, 2026 article, “Your Discs. Now Also Digital.” The feature lets an owner of a supported Xbox One or Xbox Series X disc claim a digital entitlement. Xbox Vice President, Next Generation, Jason Ronald described the process this way: “Players can claim a digital entitlement by inserting a supported disc into an XBOX One or XBOX Series X console and launching the game.”
The qualification in that sentence matters: the disc must be supported. Xbox says the program covers most Xbox One and Xbox Series X disc-based games, but also says “While not every title will be available at launch.” The announcement says the rollout starts with thousands of titles, without publishing an exact count or a complete title-by-title list.

When a disc is accepted, the entitlement can provide digital benefits such as Xbox Play Anywhere and Xbox Cloud Gaming where those benefits are supported for the particular game. The original physical disc remains usable as it was before. The feature is not a universal conversion service for every Xbox disc, and it does not turn a disc from another platform into an Xbox entitlement.

The basic sequence for a supported disc
- Use an Xbox One or Xbox Series X console; Xbox’s announcement does not describe the process for other hardware.
- Insert the supported Xbox One or Xbox Series X game disc.
- Launch the game. Xbox’s official description identifies launching after insertion as the point at which the digital entitlement can be claimed.
- Complete the claim shown by the console, then install or launch the digital version as the console permits.
This sequence explains how the general feature is intended to work. It is not proof that every game, edition or regional disc will show a claim option.
Why CrossWorlds eligibility is uncertain
SEGA lists the Xbox versions as digital-only
SEGA’s official Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds platform listing describes the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One versions as “Only available in digital format.” That is the strongest title-specific information currently available. If the Xbox editions sold for your market are digital-only, there is no Xbox CrossWorlds disc to insert and therefore no disc-to-digital claim to make.
A regional guide mentions physical editions without naming the platform
SEGA’s regional purchase guide has Xbox store links for digital editions. Elsewhere, the guide lists a physical-edition section for Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia and Thailand. The visible text in that section does not identify the platform. It could therefore describe physical editions for other platforms, a market-specific product, or an edition whose platform must be confirmed in the local listing. Do not infer that an Xbox physical release exists merely because a regional page uses the words “physical edition.”
Xbox has not published a CrossWorlds result
The August 26, 2026 Xbox announcement gives the program’s rules but does not include a CrossWorlds entry or a complete eligibility database. An early Xbox Insider discussion contains a user report that CrossWorlds did not work during testing. That is an anecdotal preview report, not a final Xbox eligibility determination, and it cannot establish whether a later rollout changed the result.

Eligibility checks before you troubleshoot
Use these checks in order. The first two determine whether the premise is valid; the later checks help distinguish an entitlement problem from an ordinary installation or update issue.

What to do if you own a physical copy
1. Photograph and read the disc and case
Record the exact title, platform logo, region, edition and any code printed on the disc. “Physical edition” is not enough information when a regional guide leaves the platform unspecified. If the disc does not carry Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S identification, it is not the disc type described by Xbox’s feature.
2. Compare the SKU with the market listing
Open the purchase information for the country where the copy was sold and match the edition name, publisher details and platform. Do not rely on a reseller’s title alone. SEGA’s general platform page says the Xbox versions are digital-only, while the regional guide’s physical-edition section does not say which platform those products use. That conflict in presentation is why the exact SKU matters.

On an Xbox One or Xbox Series X console, insert the disc and launch the game. Xbox’s announcement identifies those actions as the way to claim a digital entitlement for a supported title. If CrossWorlds is not recognized, do not assume that reinstalling, changing accounts or buying another copy will create eligibility; Xbox has not confirmed that this title participates.

4. Record the exact message
Capture the console’s wording, error code, account region and whether the game appears in your library. “No claim option,” “disc unreadable,” “installation stopped” and “game launches but online mode is unavailable” point to different classes of problem. Keep the disc inserted while documenting the result, because the support team may need the console to detect it.
Common problems and how to interpret them
No “claim digital” option appears
For CrossWorlds, the first explanation is format eligibility: SEGA lists the Xbox versions as digital-only, so you may not have an Xbox disc that the program can convert. A missing option does not, by itself, show that your console or installation is broken.
For a different Xbox disc that you know is supported, early Xbox Insider testers described a “claim digital” option in the disc’s menu after installing a preview update. Some testers also said a game appeared only after launching it once or refreshing their collection. These are community observations from early testing, not guaranteed current instructions and not confirmed fixes for CrossWorlds. Do not treat them as an official CrossWorlds workaround.
The disc installs, but no digital entitlement appears
Installation and entitlement are separate. A console can read files from a disc without that title being included in Xbox’s supported set. Check the platform and edition first, then look for an explicit claim state. Xbox has not released a public CrossWorlds-specific result in the announcement described above.

The game is in the library but will not launch digitally
Check whether the disc is still required for the way your entitlement was granted, whether you are signed into the account that claimed it, and whether the console has completed the installation. These are general account and installation checks; they do not establish that CrossWorlds is eligible. If the console reports an entitlement error, contact Xbox Support with the exact code and your disc details.
Online modes or DLC are unavailable
SEGA’s October 8, 2026 update notice lists version 1.4.3 for Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One. It says players must update to the latest version to use online features such as World Match and to access DLC. Updating is therefore a valid game-maintenance step when those features fail. SEGA does not say that version 1.4.3 makes an otherwise ineligible disc eligible for digital conversion.
The disc is rejected or unreadable
Confirm that the disc is an Xbox One or Xbox Series X disc and that it matches the edition you intended to test. Clean, physical-disc handling and drive troubleshooting may help with a genuinely unreadable disc, but they cannot create a digital entitlement for an unsupported title. If another known-supported disc works in the same console while this one does not, the CrossWorlds copy’s format or eligibility is the more relevant lead.

Market and platform are separate facts. A physical product listed in Singapore, Indonesia, the Philippines, Malaysia or Thailand does not automatically mean an Xbox physical product. Check the local product page, the platform logo on the packaging, the disc’s startup screen and the publisher’s SKU information. Keep screenshots of the listing if you need to ask SEGA or a retailer to identify it.

If the copy is a code-in-box product rather than a pressed disc, it is not the disc-based process described by Xbox. Redeemable codes follow the code’s platform and region rules; they are not evidence that an Xbox disc exists.
When to contact Xbox or SEGA
Contact Xbox Support for entitlement and console errors
- Provide the console model, system software or preview status, account region and exact error text.
- State whether the disc is labeled Xbox One or Xbox Series X|S and identify the market and edition.
- Explain whether the failure is a missing claim option, an unreadable disc, an installation problem or a library/entitlement error.
- Include the time of the test and whether another supported disc is recognized by the console.
During the early Insider testing described by community participants, users were directed to Xbox’s “Report a problem” flow for bugs. That guidance applied to the preview discussion. For a current entitlement error, use Xbox Support’s current reporting route rather than relying on an old forum workaround.
Contact SEGA or the retailer for product identification
Ask SEGA or the seller to confirm the platform and SKU when a regional listing says “physical edition” but does not name the console. This is the appropriate route for determining what was sold in a particular market; Xbox cannot make an edition exist if the publisher did not release it for Xbox.

As of October 16, 2026, the defensible answer is conditional. Xbox has a disc-to-digital feature for supported Xbox One and Xbox Series X discs, but it does not support every title and has not published a CrossWorlds-specific eligibility confirmation in the official announcement. SEGA’s main platform listing calls the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One versions digital-only. SEGA’s regional guide leaves the platform of certain Asian physical listings unspecified. Therefore, an Xbox CrossWorlds disc-to-digital upgrade should not be assumed.
If you have a particular physical copy, identify its market, platform and edition first. Only after those facts are established does it make sense to investigate the Xbox claim interface, installation state or game version. Version 1.4.3 can resolve online-mode and DLC requirements, but it is not an entitlement conversion.
