The short version: Standard Edition is only the base game. The original Digital Deluxe Edition adds the first Season Pass, including the Sonic Prime Character Pack and six crossover content packs. The newer Year Two Digital Deluxe Edition adds Season Pass Two instead and does not include the original pass. On Nintendo Switch, the Switch 2 version uses a separate Upgrade Pack, so check the exact game edition and platform before paying.
Edition contents at a glance
Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds has several similarly named purchase options. The key question is not simply “Standard or Deluxe?” It is which Season Pass is attached to the bundle, and whether you are buying for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation, Xbox or PC.

SEGA’s purchase guidance specifically warns that the two passes contain different content. A Deluxe label by itself is therefore not enough to identify what you receive.

Base game only
The Standard Edition is the straightforward entry point: it supplies the CrossWorlds base game without either Season Pass. This applies to digital Standard editions and to the physical Standard listing described in SEGA’s purchase guide.

Do not infer that a physical box contains downloadable expansions merely because a similarly named digital bundle does. Unless the current retailer listing names a pass or DLC, treat Standard as the game only. This is especially important for physical purchases, where packaging and retailer metadata can remain visible after a digital Deluxe bundle has been promoted elsewhere.
Who should choose it?
- Players who want to try the core racing game before buying add-ons.
- People who already own, or plan to buy, individual DLC packs rather than a complete pass.
- Collectors who specifically want a physical base-game copy and do not need bundled digital content.
What is in the original Digital Deluxe Edition?
Base game plus the first Season Pass
The original Digital Deluxe Edition combines the base game with the original Season Pass. SEGA’s launch announcement describes that pass as including the Sonic Prime Character Pack, and Nintendo’s U.S. listing identifies the characters as Rusty Rose, Tails Nine and Knuckles the Dread. The bundle also contains six crossover content packs.

Nintendo describes the broader pass package as guest characters, vehicles, tracks, emotes and other items. Release timing and final content can change, so the live product information for your platform is the authority on availability.
What the original Deluxe name does not mean
“Original Digital Deluxe” is not a permanent label for every later Deluxe sale. It refers to the first pass. Buying it does not grant Season Pass Two, even if both products contain the words “Digital Deluxe.”

How Year Two Digital Deluxe differs
A separate base-game bundle
Year Two Digital Deluxe includes the base game and Season Pass Two. SEGA expressly states that this package does not include the original Season Pass. It is not an upgrade that automatically fills in the first pass for someone who skipped it; it is a different bundle built around the second pass.
The available edition information establishes the bundle relationship, but it does not provide a complete item-by-item list for Season Pass Two. Check the product page for the platform and territory where you intend to play instead of assuming that the second pass repeats or replaces any named crossover from the first.
Why the distinction matters
- A new buyer wanting the Sonic Prime characters and the six original crossover waves needs the original Digital Deluxe Edition or the original Season Pass separately.
- A buyer specifically seeking Year Two content needs Year Two Digital Deluxe or Season Pass Two.
- Buying both Deluxe bundles may be necessary for someone who wants both passes, but the base game is present in each bundle, creating a possible duplicate purchase.
Nintendo Switch and Switch 2: how the upgrade route works
Switch 2 Edition through an Upgrade Pack
SEGA describes the Switch 2 Edition as a separate upgrade path from the Nintendo Switch release. You start with the Nintendo Switch game and purchase the Switch 2 Upgrade Pack. The upgrade pack is a separate component rather than an automatic entitlement attached to every Switch copy.
If you also want the original Season Pass, SEGA’s stated combination is the Nintendo Switch Digital Deluxe Edition (base game plus the original pass) together with the Switch 2 Upgrade Pack. Selecting a plain Switch Standard purchase and then assuming the first pass is included will leave you without that content.
Content and performance qualification
SEGA says the Switch 2 Edition’s content does not differ from the versions on other platforms. It also says that running the Switch 2 version on a Switch console provides features and performance matching the Switch version. In practical terms, the upgrade route changes the version you can run on Switch 2; it does not turn Standard into a Season Pass bundle.

Physical Switch 2 copies
The Switch 2 physical release is a distinct physical-format option. A physical Switch 2 Standard box should be treated as the base game unless its current listing explicitly names a pass. The existence of a physical Switch 2 release does not make the physical Standard Edition equivalent to either Digital Deluxe bundle.

Physical versus digital: what to verify before checkout
Physical copies
- Read the exact edition name on the retailer page and on the box, not only the game title.
- Confirm whether the listing says Standard, Original Digital Deluxe, Year Two Digital Deluxe or a Switch 2-specific edition.
- Look for a clear statement about a Season Pass or a code. If none is stated, assume the physical Standard copy is base game only.
- Check whether downloadable content is supplied as a redeemable code, because codes can be region-limited or have an expiration policy stated by the seller.
Digital copies
Digital storefronts normally identify the included pass in the product description. On a shared family console or account, verify that the game and DLC are being purchased for the same platform account and territory. A Switch purchase and a Switch 2 Upgrade Pack are separate line items, so review the cart total and each item name before confirming.
Which purchase is right for an existing owner?
If you own the base game
Do not automatically buy another Deluxe bundle. SEGA says an owner of the base game can buy Season Pass Two or purchase individual DLC packs separately. Compare those options with the contents you actually want; a bundle that repeats the base game can cost more while adding nothing to your library for the game itself.
If you own the original Digital Deluxe Edition
You already have the original Season Pass. To add the newer content, look for Season Pass Two or a product explicitly identified as Year Two content. Buying Year Two Digital Deluxe may include a second base-game license, so check whether the storefront offers the pass on its own.
If you own Year Two Digital Deluxe
You have Season Pass Two, not the original pass. If you want Sonic Prime characters or the six original crossover waves, look for the original Season Pass or the individual packs. The Year Two label does not backfill those earlier items.

If you are moving from Switch to Switch 2
Identify whether your existing entitlement is the Switch Standard or Switch Digital Deluxe edition, then add the Switch 2 Upgrade Pack. If the original pass is important, the underlying entitlement must include it; the upgrade pack itself is not described as a Season Pass.
Historical bonus and current price caveats
Werehog Pack
SEGA’s June 2025 announcement described the Werehog Pack—Werehog racer, Beast Spike machine and Werehog decal—as a digital pre-order or early physical-purchase bonus. That wording describes a time-limited historical offer. It does not establish that a newly purchased copy today includes the pack. Check the live seller listing and the stated redemption terms before treating it as part of an edition.
U.S. PlayStation prices
When the U.S. PlayStation product page was checked, it displayed Standard at $39.99 and Digital Deluxe at $59.99. Those figures are a storefront snapshot, not a universal price. Platform, region, currency, taxes, promotions and date can all change the amount, and the displayed Deluxe price does not identify whether the page is for the original or Year Two bundle without reading the full product title.
Sales figures are not edition comparisons
SEGA reported more than one million units sold worldwide on October 23, 2025, counting physical units and digital downloads across platforms. That is a historical overall sales milestone; it does not show how many copies were Standard, original Deluxe or Year Two Deluxe, nor does it establish which edition offers the best value.
Common buying mistakes and fixes
Mistake: treating every Deluxe edition as cumulative
Fix: Read the pass name. Original Digital Deluxe means the original Season Pass; Year Two Digital Deluxe means Season Pass Two. Neither description should be interpreted as including both.

Mistake: assuming physical Standard includes DLC
Fix: Use the exact physical listing. The official Standard description identifies the base game, and no Season Pass should be inferred without an explicit statement.
Mistake: buying a second base game as an existing owner
Fix: Open the add-on section for your platform and compare the standalone pass with individual packs. SEGA identifies both as options for base-game owners.
Mistake: treating the Switch 2 Upgrade Pack as a content pass
Fix: Separate the version upgrade from DLC ownership. The Upgrade Pack is the Switch 2 route; the Nintendo Switch edition you start with determines whether you own the original Season Pass.
Mistake: relying on an old bonus or price screenshot
Fix: Recheck the current storefront page, region and seller terms. The Werehog offer was described as pre-order or early-purchase promotion, and the cited prices were observed at one point on the U.S. PlayStation store.
A practical checkout checklist
- Choose the platform you will actually use: Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation, Xbox or PC.
- Mark whether you need the base game only, the original Season Pass, Season Pass Two or both.
- For Nintendo hardware, decide whether you are buying the Switch game, a Switch 2 physical release or a Switch game plus the separate Switch 2 Upgrade Pack.
- Read the full edition title and included-items list; do not rely on the single word “Deluxe.”
- If you already own the base game, price the standalone pass or individual DLC before considering a bundle that contains another copy of the game.
- Confirm territory, currency, taxes and any promotion end date on the live storefront.
- Save the order confirmation showing the exact edition and pass, particularly for physical copies that use download codes.
The simplest way to remember the lineup
Think of the releases as three content layers. Standard is the base game. Original Digital Deluxe adds the first Season Pass, with Sonic Prime and six crossover waves. Year Two Digital Deluxe adds Season Pass Two instead. On Switch 2, the hardware-version change is handled by a separate Upgrade Pack, while the pass you own still depends on the underlying game edition.
