Short answer: buy the Standard Edition if you only want the racing game, or choose Digital Deluxe if you want the original Season Pass bundled with the game. Digital Deluxe does not include Season Pass 2. Season Pass 2 is a separate purchase announced for October 2026, and its value depends on whether you want its six crossover packs or the announced Super Shadow bonus.
Prices, release timing and bonuses vary by country, platform and store. The figures below that use yen are from SEGA’s Japan-market table dated October 10, 2026; they are not universal prices.

The buying decision in one minute

Standard includes the game. Digital Deluxe includes the game and the original Season Pass.
- Decide whether the original Season Pass is worth bundling. It covers six collaboration packs and the Sonic Prime character content identified by SEGA.
- Decide whether to add Season Pass 2. It is a new, separate pass with six announced crossover packs. Owning the original Digital Deluxe Edition does not give you Season Pass 2.
If you already own the base game, do not buy Digital Deluxe again. Compare the price of the relevant pass with the individual packs you actually want on your platform’s store.

Which edition should you buy?
Standard Edition
The Standard Edition is the straightforward purchase: the base game in physical or digital form. It is the right choice when you want the core racing experience and do not yet know whether you will buy collaboration DLC.
Digital Deluxe Edition
SEGA describes Digital Deluxe as the base game plus the original Season Pass. The cited product descriptions also identify the Sonic Prime characters Nine, Rusty Rose and Dread as part of the Deluxe offering. This is a bundle for the first pass only; it is not a bundle for Season Pass 2.
Season 2 Digital Deluxe Edition
SEGA announced a Season 2 Digital Deluxe Edition on October 10, 2026. Treat it as a separate product associated with Season Pass 2 rather than as an upgrade that automatically expands an earlier Digital Deluxe purchase. Check the exact store listing for your platform before paying, because the announcement’s Japanese table does not establish worldwide package names or pricing.

| Product | What it contains | Best for |
|---|---|---|
| Standard Edition | Base game | Players who want the game without a pass |
| Digital Deluxe Edition | Base game plus the original Season Pass; SEGA’s descriptions identify Nine, Rusty Rose and Dread from Sonic Prime | New buyers who want the first pass |
| Original Season Pass | Six collaboration DLC waves listed by SEGA’s purchase guide | Owners of the base game who want the first-pass content |
| Season Pass 2 | Six newly announced collaboration packs | Players interested in the 2026 crossover lineup |
| Season 2 Digital Deluxe Edition | Separate Season Pass 2-era bundle; confirm the live listing for the exact contents | New buyers targeting Season Pass 2 content |
What is in the original Season Pass?
SEGA’s purchase guide lists these collaboration packs for the original Season Pass:
- Minecraft
- SpongeBob SquarePants
- PAC-MAN
- Mega Man
- Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
- Avatar Legends
SEGA says the Season Pass and all collaboration DLC can be purchased separately. That matters if you own the Standard Edition or only want one crossover. Release status can differ by pack and platform, so use the live listing for your console or PC store to confirm what is currently downloadable.
The original pass is easiest to justify for a new player who expects to want several of those packs. An existing owner should compare the pass price with the combined price of the individual packs still missing from their library. Buying the base game a second time through Digital Deluxe is not a cost-effective way to obtain DLC.
What is Season Pass 2?
SEGA announced Season Pass 2 and the Season 2 Digital Deluxe Edition on October 10, 2026. The Japanese announcement names six packs:
Rank #2
- READY, SET, WARP! Race across 24 tracks and warp to 15 CrossWorlds with Travel Rings, a unique gameplay mechanic that transports the iconic characters from the Sonic and SEGA universes into new dimensions. Use unpredictability to your advantage as you change the landscape of each race!

- Godzilla
- Evangelion
- Virtual Sanrio Puroland
- Sega Land
- Final Fantasy VII Remake series
- Persona
The first Godzilla pack was scheduled for November 4, 2026, with the remaining content described as arriving sequentially from that date. As of October 14, 2026, that announcement is a timetable, not confirmation that every pack is already available. Check your platform store and the in-game download status before assuming the full pass has launched.
Season Pass 2 is not included with the original Digital Deluxe Edition. If a store page uses “Digital Deluxe” without clearly saying “Season 2,” read the contents list carefully; the two Deluxe products refer to different pass generations.
Japan prices announced by SEGA
SEGA’s October 10, 2026 Japanese price table lists the following digital prices. These amounts are Japanese yen and should not be converted into a global MSRP or assumed to apply in another region.
| Item | Japan price | Qualification |
|---|---|---|
| Digital base game | ¥4,990 | Japanese digital price in SEGA’s table |
| Original Digital Deluxe Edition | ¥5,990 | Japanese bundle price; includes the original Season Pass |
| Original Season Pass | ¥2,990 | Japanese pass price |
| Individual collaboration pack | ¥660 | Japanese price per listed pack |
| Season Pass 2 | ¥2,990 | Japanese pass price announced October 10, 2026 |
| Season 2 Digital Deluxe Edition | ¥5,990 | Japanese bundle price; verify the live contents listing |
| Switch-to-Switch 2 upgrade pass | ¥100 | Japan-specific upgrade price |
For a Japan-region buyer, six ¥660 packs would total ¥3,960 before considering any bundle discount, making the ¥2,990 original pass cheaper if all six are wanted. That arithmetic does not establish prices or discounts in other regions. In every market, perform the same comparison with the currency and store price shown on your account.

You do not own the game yet
Choose Standard if you want to keep the initial cost low or prefer to select packs later. Choose the original Digital Deluxe Edition when the live store price is meaningfully lower than buying the base game and the first pass separately and you want most of the first-pass content.
If your priority is the Season Pass 2 lineup, compare the Standard Edition plus Season Pass 2 with the Season 2 Digital Deluxe Edition. Do not assume that an older Deluxe sale includes the newer pass.
You own Standard and want first-pass DLC
Buy the original Season Pass if you expect to use several of its six packs. If you want only one or two, individual purchases can avoid paying for content you will not use. SEGA explicitly supports separate purchases.

- Make It Yours Mix and match between 45 unique original vehicles and 70 different gadgets to trick out your ride, level up your kart, and create the ultimate machine to match your racing style.
You own Standard and want Season Pass 2
Buy Season Pass 2 rather than replacing your base game. Before checkout, verify whether the pack is available in your region and whether the store is selling a pass, a bundle or an individual item.
You want both generations of crossover content
Price the original Season Pass and Season Pass 2 separately against any current bundle. The original Digital Deluxe Edition does not substitute for Season Pass 2, and Season 2 Digital Deluxe does not necessarily replace the original pass. Read each product’s contents list.
Super Shadow: the bonus requires both passes
SEGA’s October 10 announcement says owners of both Season Pass 1 and Season Pass 2 receive Super Shadow, the Super Dark Flare machine and a Super Shadow sticker. Buying individual DLC packs does not qualify for this reward.
The same announcement says the reward would become available after a November 4 patch. Because that date was still ahead of the October 14, 2026 information date, treat the condition as announced rather than as a confirmed, already-live entitlement. Recheck the post-patch notice and your account’s entitlement screen.
Super Shadow is restricted to Grand Prix mode according to the announcement. The bonus therefore should not be treated as a universal character unlock for every mode.
Switch and Switch 2 considerations
SEGA’s launch information documents Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 versions and says Switch players can upgrade by purchasing an upgrade pack. The later Japanese table lists the Switch-to-Switch 2 upgrade pass at ¥100, but that amount is specific to Japan.
Confirm which edition your account owns, whether you are buying the native Switch 2 product or an upgrade, and whether the store page identifies the correct platform. The cited official material does not establish that DLC entitlements or saves transfer between different platform families or accounts. Do not assume transferability; verify it with the platform’s support documentation before changing systems.

Platforms, launch dates and early access
SEGA documents the game for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, Steam and the Epic Games Store. The initial release date was September 25, 2025 for consoles and September 26, 2025 for PC.
The launch purchase guide described up to 72 hours of early access with Digital Deluxe, explicitly excluding Nintendo Switch versions. That was a launch-period benefit. Unless the current store page still advertises it for a new purchase, do not use early access as a present-day reason to pay for Deluxe.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteUpdates are required for online play and DLC
SEGA’s October 8, 2026 Version 1.4.3 notice states: “You must update to the latest version of the game to play online modes like World Match and access DLC.” Install the current update before troubleshooting a missing pack, an unavailable online mode or a newly released crossover.
- Close and restart the game after the platform finishes downloading the update.
- Confirm that the account used for the purchase is the account launching the game.
- Open the platform’s downloadable-content or add-on list and check that the pack is installed.
- If a scheduled pack is absent, compare its announced release date with your region’s store listing.
Japan-only Amazon.co.jp plush bundle
SEGA announced a limited Amazon.co.jp bundle containing Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, a SONIC EXPRESS courier plush and three stickers. Four variants were planned to roll out sequentially:
- Two game-plus-plush versions were announced for reservation on October 10, 2026.
- Two later variants were planned to include a Season Pass 2 download code.
The announcement says the game and Season Pass code may arrive before the plush. This is a Japan-only collectible route, not a replacement for the standard platform-specific listing. Live stock, reservation status and any current bonus wording were not established, so confirm all three on Amazon.co.jp before ordering. Search for the exact phrase Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, then narrow by console and edition; for example, a Switch 2 listing may use “Sonic Racing CrossWorlds Nintendo Switch 2 Edition.”
Buying checklist
- Identify your platform and region. Prices and availability are store-specific.
- Check ownership. If you already have the base game, compare passes or individual packs instead of another base-game bundle.
- Read the pass name. “Original Season Pass” and “Season Pass 2” are separate products.
- Count the packs you actually want. Use the pass only when its price beats your selected individual purchases.
- Check bonus eligibility. Super Shadow requires both passes; individual packs do not qualify.
- Check timing. Season Pass 2 content was announced for sequential release from November 4, 2026, not as proof that every pack is already live.
- Update the game. The latest software is required for DLC access and online modes such as World Match.
- Verify platform transfer assumptions. Official material cited here does not confirm cross-platform DLC or save transfer.
Final recommendation
For a first purchase, Standard is the safest option when you are undecided. Original Digital Deluxe is the efficient choice when you specifically want the original Season Pass and the live bundle price is favorable. Existing owners should buy the original pass or individual packs directly, not rebuy the game.
