A community Gboard modification called PixelBoard claims to bring Google’s Gemini-powered Rambler voice typing to Android phones beyond the Pixel 11 series, without root. That is a project maintainer’s compatibility claim—not Google support or proof that it works on every phone. The method involves patching and sideloading a modified keyboard, so its instructions can become outdated as Gboard and Android change.
What Rambler changes about voice typing
Rambler is Google’s Gemini-powered text input feature in Gboard. Rather than transcribing every word exactly as spoken, it is designed to turn natural speech into more concise, structured text by removing filler words and applying grammar and punctuation. Google also describes support for spoken revisions, direct on-screen editing, and switching between supported languages.
In its May 12, 2026 Android announcement, Google said Rambler can take “the important parts” of natural speech and fit them into a concise message. That describes Google’s intended experience; it does not establish how closely a modified build reproduces every feature.

Google’s help page documents Rambler for Pixel 11 series devices. Its stated prerequisites are the latest Gboard set as the default keyboard, microphone permission, and an active internet connection for full features. Google says limited offline use is available. The same page lists Arabic, English, French, German, Hindi and other supported Indian languages, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, and Spanish, and says users can switch among supported languages while speaking. Google’s Rambler voice input help page has the current official details.
#1 Best Overall
- Attention-grabbing design meets the latest evolution of the Google Pixel Camera on the new Google Pixel 11 Pro; Gemini Intelligence helps manage details so you can live in the moment[1]; and the phone is available in two sizes
- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan: Works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers[2]
- Stay informed without looking at your screen: When your phone is face down, Pixel HiLight gently alerts you with subtle glowing lights when your favorite contacts are calling or you’re talking with Gemini; exclusive to Google Pixel 11 Pro phones
- Magic Capture catches the moment as you live it: With just one tap, Pixel 11 Pro captures video and photos, and automatically edits, crops, and unblurs a curated collection, ready to share – and you get the memory of how it felt to be in the moment
- Two new cameras for more brilliant photos: A larger telephoto sensor captures 30% more light for clear, beautiful photos and videos, even in the dark[3]; Pixel’s longest zoom ever helps you capture details from impressive distances[4]
Those requirements define Google’s documented support, not the compatibility boundary of a community patch. PixelBoard’s maintainer says the project can enable Rambler on other Android phones, but Google does not document or endorse that route. Its language and feature behavior should not be assumed to match the Pixel 11 implementation exactly.
How the PixelBoard port works—and what installation entails
PixelBoard’s public repository describes it as a Gboard modification with an independent package ID, allowing it to coexist with stock Gboard. The maintainer says Rambler is enabled through a patch setting. These are project documentation and claims, not independently verified support for every device. See the PixelBoard repository for its current information.

- Unlocked Android phone gives you the flexibility to change carriers and choose your own data plan; it works with Google Fi, Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and other major carriers
- Pixel 10a is sleek and durable, with a super smooth finish, scratch-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 7i display, and IP68 water and dust protection[4]

A third-party walkthrough describes patching a supported Gboard APK with Morphe, then sideloading the resulting keyboard and enabling the feature. The exact build references and procedure are version-sensitive; the walkthrough does not establish that the process is safe or compatible with all phones. Its instructions should be treated as a snapshot, not evergreen steps: TechPP’s September 20, 2026 walkthrough.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute- It is not a standard Gboard setting. The described route modifies an APK rather than simply enabling an officially supported option.
- Compatibility is uncertain. A device, Android release, or Gboard build that differs from the walkthrough may behave differently or fail to install.
- Updates can invalidate instructions. Gboard and Android releases change; check the project’s current documentation rather than relying on an old build number.
- Use care with keyboard permissions. A keyboard handles text entered across apps. Only install a modified keyboard from a source you trust, and consider whether the convenience is worth the additional maintenance and trust burden.
Privacy and accuracy considerations
Google says Rambler temporarily processes text, audio input, and corrections, then deletes them after the text is delivered. Its Android announcement separately says audio is used for real-time transcription and is not stored or saved. These are Google’s statements about its Rambler service; they do not establish the data handling of every PixelBoard build or other dictation app. Review the current project and app documentation before entering sensitive material.
Google also warns that Rambler can make mistakes and advises users to check its output. A sentence that reads smoothly can still misstate a name, date, number, or dictated correction. Verify important details before sending or saving the text.
Alternatives if you do not want a modified keyboard
| Option | What the available information says | Important qualification |
|---|---|---|
| PixelBoard | The maintainer describes a patched Gboard that enables Rambler and uses a separate package ID. | Community claim; compatibility and feature parity beyond supported Pixel devices are not established. See the project repository. |
| Microsoft SwiftKey AI voice | 9to5Google reported an AI voice feature in Android beta version 9.13.16.4 that cleans filler words and formats dictated text. The report, citing Android Central, says an offline language model is required and the feature can work offline. | This is a September 15, 2026 beta report, not confirmation of current general availability. See 9to5Google’s report. |
| Ramblr | The separate Android project describes on-device transcription and cleanup, with optional cloud providers configured using the user’s own API key. | It is a different app, not Google Rambler or PixelBoard. See the Ramblr repository for its own capabilities and data-handling details. |
Is the port worth trying?
PixelBoard may interest Android users who specifically want Rambler-style cleanup and are comfortable installing and maintaining a modified keyboard. The trade-off is a community-supported route with uncertain device compatibility, version-sensitive installation, and data-handling questions that Google’s official Rambler documentation does not answer for the modified build. If you need a dependable, officially documented setup, Google currently limits its stated Rambler requirements to Pixel 11 series devices.
