The Shanghai stop of Solana Accelerate China was postponed on October 16, 2026, after publicity caused registrations to quadruple overnight. Solana Foundation President Lily Liu said the resulting attendance exceeded the capacity organizers had reported to local authorities, so the event could not safely proceed while meeting local requirements. No replacement date had been announced at the time of her statement.
Why the Shanghai event was postponed
Lily Liu attributed the postponement to a sudden registration surge rather than a change in the program. In a statement on October 16, she said publicity made registrations “quadrupled overnight,” pushing expected attendance far beyond the event cap submitted to local authorities. Organizers therefore postponed the gathering until they could accommodate the community at the required scale and remain compliant with local rules.
The practical issue was both capacity and compliance: the venue was not prepared for the number of people who arrived or planned to arrive, and the organizers could not simply admit an audience larger than the approved limit. Liu did not announce a new Shanghai date.
What attendees saw at the venue
Early attendee reports described morning sessions as delayed for “logistical considerations at the venue.” People were reported waiting outside, and some accounts mentioned law-enforcement officers nearby. Those observations do not establish that police ordered the event to close. Liu’s later explanation identified oversubscription, the registered attendance cap and compliance obligations as the reason for postponement.

Unless a competent local authority publishes a separate notice, it is more accurate to describe the situation as an organizer-announced postponement prompted by capacity and regulatory requirements, not as a confirmed police shutdown.
What was scheduled for Shanghai
The Shanghai program was the first stop on a planned four-city China tour. The published agenda was aimed at developers, entrepreneurs, investors and technology teams, with sessions spanning blockchain infrastructure, developer tools, artificial-intelligence agents, robotics, physical AI, payments, hardware, consumer technology and taking products from local markets to global users.

The postponement means those times should not be treated as an active schedule. Anyone holding a registration should rely on organizer notices for cancellation, transfer or rebooking instructions rather than traveling to the original venue time.

What is known about a new Shanghai date
No replacement date, venue or revised capacity was provided in Liu’s October 16 explanation. A rescheduled event would likely require organizers to reassess the venue, registration controls and the attendance limit reported to local authorities, but no specific plan or timeline was publicly established in the available information.
