SodaStream Fountain is an electric sparkling-drink maker that combines carbonation and flavor dosing as it dispenses a drink into your glass or another vessel. It automates part of the preparation, but it does not do everything: you supply cold water, a CO2 cylinder and compatible flavor bottles, then choose the drink size, fizz level and flavor intensity.
What SodaStream Fountain is—and what it makes
SodaStream describes Fountain as an electric dispensing sparkling-drink maker with an integrated flavor-dosing system. It can make flavored fizzy drinks, plain sparkling water and still flavored drinks. Set the flavor intensity to zero for plain sparkling water; still flavored drinks are also among the options described in SodaStream’s product materials.
The coffee-machine comparison is about the workflow: add the required ingredients, choose settings and dispense a drink. Unlike a machine that simply carbonates water for you to flavor later, Fountain doses flavor as it dispenses. SodaStream presents that as a combined carbonation-and-flavor process, not as a machine that needs no user input or supplies.

How the drink-making process works
- Insert a CO2 cylinder.
- Fill the removable water tank with cold water and return it to the machine’s dock.
- Insert a compatible flavor bottle fitted with a Flavor Connect Cap.
- Choose the drink size, carbonation level and flavor intensity.
- Dispense the drink into a glass or larger vessel; change flavors as desired.
SodaStream advertises preparation in under 30 seconds once preferences have been set. That is the company’s product-page claim, not an independently verified timing result.

Settings and indicators
SodaStream support describes three drink sizes: 8, 16 and 24 oz. The fizz control has four settings, including still; flavor intensity ranges from 0% to 100% in 25-percentage-point increments. The machine also has a boost option for an additional 25% syrup. Support materials describe indicators for low CO2 and for whether the water tank and flavor bottle are properly connected.
What you still need to do
- Provide water and a CO2 cylinder; Fountain does not supply either ingredient through automation.
- Choose the serving size, fizz and flavor settings for each drink.
- Use the new compatible flavor bottles and Flavor Connect Caps. SodaStream support says Fountain is compatible only with the new bottles.
- Replace supplies and handle the removable components as needed. SodaStream’s description of integrated dosing does not mean the machine eliminates refilling or component care.
Flavor bottles are sold separately, and the flavors available depend on the market. SodaStream advertises more than 40 drink-mix flavors and approximately 1,000 or more possible drink combinations, with the combination count expressly dependent on flavor availability. Fountain or MIX: which workflow fits?
SodaStream distinguishes Fountain from MIX by what the machine carbonates and when flavor is added. Fountain is built around water, flavor dosing and dispensing. SodaStream says MIX can carbonate drinks beyond water, including sweetened drinks and juices.

SodaStream advises that MIX drinks should be cold, preferably refrigerated to 4°C before carbonation. That guidance applies to MIX; it is not a reason to treat Fountain as a machine for carbonating arbitrary liquids.

How to interpret the product claims
SodaStream’s product page describes the controls as a way to adjust carbonation, flavor intensity and drink size. Its under-30-second preparation claim applies after preferences are set. Neither statement establishes independent performance testing. Likewise, the advertised variety totals are approximate company claims whose real-world usefulness depends on which flavors are sold where you live.
Product names, compatible supplies, flavors and availability may vary by market. Check the current local SodaStream product and support information before buying, particularly to confirm that the compatible flavor bottles and Flavor Connect Caps are available to you.
