If you want to use an original Super Nintendo or Super Famicom controller on a computer, choose an adapter that converts the controller connection to USB. The dedicated raphnet SNES controller to USB adapter V2 is a direct option for standard controllers; a multi-system adapter can make more sense if you also connect controllers from other consoles. These products connect a controller to a USB host, not a USB controller to an original SNES console.

Which SNES-to-USB adapter fits your setup?

Option Best suited to What to check
raphnet SNES controller to USB adapter V2 Using a standard original SNES or Super Famicom controller with a computer Confirm the controller or peripheral mode you need and check current model details on the vendor page.
Bliss-Box Universal Adapter with SNES input cable Connecting controllers from multiple systems through a multi-system setup The SNES connection uses a separate input cable; verify the exact adapter model and cable.
DIY USB conversion kit People comfortable with wiring, soldering, and troubleshooting Check the kit instructions and confirm the controller works before conversion.
SN30 Retro Set Someone seeking a wireless SNES-style controller rather than an adapter for an original wired one It is a Bluetooth controller paired with an SNES receiver, not a conversion adapter for an original controller.

What the dedicated raphnet adapter supports

The raphnet SNES controller to USB adapter V2 is designed specifically to connect a real SNES controller to USB. Its product page lists standard SNES controllers from all regions and support for Windows, macOS, and Linux. The adapter identifies as a USB HID joystick, and raphnet says no special driver is needed on those listed systems.

Peripheral support is more specific than standard gamepad support. The vendor lists all 23 buttons on the NTT Data controller. It also lists SNES mouse support, but only when mouse mode is enabled and the adapter firmware is above 2.2.0. If you have an unusual controller or peripheral, check its mode and firmware requirements rather than assuming it will behave like a standard pad.

When a multi-system adapter is a better fit

The Bliss-Box Universal Adapter SNES setup is intended for users with controllers from more than one system. Its SNES connection uses an SNES input cable, and its page names multiple adapter models. Confirm that the specific model you plan to use supports the cable and that the cable is available; compatibility should not be assumed across every model in the product family. Bliss-Box lists Windows, macOS, Linux, RetroPie, and Raspberry Pi compatibility.

DIY conversion and wireless alternatives

DIY: a hands-on conversion

RetroUSB’s DIY USB kit instructions describe controller-specific wiring and soldering. The kit is designed for one controller, and the instructions advise checking that the original controller works before converting it. Choose this route only if you are prepared to build and troubleshoot the connection; it is not a plug-in adapter.

Wireless: a different kind of setup

The 8BitDo SN30 Retro Set FAQ describes an SN30 Bluetooth controller paired with an SNES retro receiver. This provides a wireless SNES-style setup, but it does not connect an original wired SNES controller to a computer over USB.

Check these details before buying

  • Direction of connection: Make sure the product accepts an original SNES controller and connects it to a USB host. A USB-to-console adapter solves the opposite problem.
  • Host support: Match the vendor’s listed operating systems or devices to the computer or single-board system you plan to use. Driver claims apply to the specific products and systems stated by each vendor, not all adapters.
  • Controller and peripheral: Confirm support for your regional controller, specialty controller, mouse, or other accessory. A standard gamepad listing does not establish support for every SNES peripheral.
  • Included hardware: For a multi-system adapter, verify whether the SNES input cable is included or must be obtained separately.
  • Current purchase details: Check the exact model, price, stock, included cable, and return terms with the seller. Product pages do not establish live availability or current pricing.

Will the adapter work without a special driver?

raphnet says its V2 adapter appears as a USB HID joystick and works without special drivers on its listed Windows, macOS, and Linux systems. RetroUSB says its adapters generally use generic drivers typically preloaded in the operating system (RetroUSB USB adapter information). Treat that as vendor guidance for its products, not a guarantee for every USB adapter or host.
