The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 is substantially ahead of the Snapdragon 865 in the benchmark results reported by 91mobiles, and it supports newer CPU, memory, wireless and imaging features. That does not mean every phone using it will be a fixed number of times faster: handset cooling, firmware, memory configuration and other design choices affect real-world results.
Specification comparison
Qualcomm’s product information shows a newer platform with higher listed CPU clocks, a smaller process-node label and support for newer memory and connectivity standards. The figures describe chip capabilities, not a guarantee that every phone implements them.
| Specification | Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 | Snapdragon 865 |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | Prime core up to 3.2 GHz and performance cores up to 3.0 GHz, per Qualcomm. The retrieved brief does not enumerate the full core arrangement. | Kryo 585 CPU up to 2.84 GHz, per Qualcomm. 91mobiles lists a 1+3+4 arrangement. |
| Manufacturing process | 4 nm, per Qualcomm’s product brief. | 7 nm, per Qualcomm’s product-family comparison. |
| GPU | Newly sliced Adreno GPU architecture, per Qualcomm; 91mobiles identifies it as Adreno 825. | Adreno 650, per Qualcomm. |
| Memory and storage | LP-DDR5x up to 4800 MHz and up to 24 GB; UFS 4.0, per Qualcomm’s brief. | LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1, as listed by 91mobiles. |
| Wireless connectivity | Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and modem downlink up to 4.2 Gbps, per Qualcomm. | Snapdragon X55 modem, Wi-Fi 6 and peak 5G speeds up to 7.5 Gbps, per Qualcomm. |
| Imaging and display capabilities | Triple 18-bit AI ISP; capture support up to 320 megapixels; 4K HDR capture up to 60 FPS; WQHD+ display support up to 144 Hz, per Qualcomm. | Spectra 480 ISP, processing up to 2 gigapixels per second and 8K video capture support, per Qualcomm. |
Supported maximums do not establish what a particular phone includes. The manufacturer’s RAM and storage choices, wireless components, camera sensors and optics, display panel, and software determine which capabilities are available to users. Qualcomm also cautions that results vary with OEM implementation and other factors in its Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 Product Brief.

All six figures are displayed by 91mobiles’ processor comparison. Scores vary with handset, firmware, benchmark version, configuration and test conditions. The comparison does not establish a controlled test on identical phones, so its score differences should not be read as a guaranteed everyday speedup.
What the newer specifications mean—and what they do not
CPU, process and memory
The 8s Gen 4’s listed CPU clocks exceed the Snapdragon 865’s maximum listed clock, and its 4 nm process label is newer than the 865’s 7 nm label. It also supports LP-DDR5x and UFS 4.0, compared with the LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1 listed for the older chip. These differences point to a newer platform, but the process-node labels alone do not prove how long a phone lasts on a charge or how fast it stays under sustained load.

Graphics
The 8s Gen 4 uses a newer Adreno GPU architecture; the 865 has an Adreno 650. Qualcomm advertises a 49% GPU improvement for the 8s Gen 4 over the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, not over the Snapdragon 865. That percentage is not a valid direct comparison between the two chips in this article.

Wireless features
The 8s Gen 4 brief lists Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, while Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 865 platform page describes Wi-Fi 6 and the X55 modem. The listed peak modem rates—up to 4.2 Gbps downlink for the newer platform and peak 5G speeds up to 7.5 Gbps for the 865—are platform specifications, not expected consumer throughput. A phone’s implementation, supported bands, carrier and local conditions determine what actually works and how fast.

Camera and display support
The chip capabilities do not specify the camera or screen a phone will have. The 8s Gen 4 supports features such as 4K HDR capture up to 60 FPS and WQHD+ at up to 144 Hz; the Snapdragon 865 platform lists 8K video capture support. Actual camera quality and available recording modes depend on sensors, lenses and manufacturer software, while the display limit depends on the panel fitted to the phone.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. Will a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 phone feel faster?
The benchmark results strongly favor the 8s Gen 4 in 91mobiles’ displayed comparison, but a chip-to-chip comparison cannot settle sustained speed, temperature, battery life, camera quality or overall value for a specific handset. Phone design, cooling, firmware, memory configuration and software all affect those outcomes. The comparison provides no controlled same-device thermal or battery test.
