What are the Snapdragon 8 Elite and Dimensity 9400e?

The Snapdragon 8 Elite and Dimensity 9400e are high-end smartphone system-on-chips, or SoCs. An SoC combines the CPU, GPU, AI hardware, image-processing hardware, modem, and other controllers that determine much of a phone’s performance and feature set.

The original Snapdragon 8 Elite uses Qualcomm’s custom Oryon CPU architecture. The Dimensity 9400e uses an Arm-based CPU design, including Cortex-X4 and Cortex-A720-class cores according to MediaTek’s published material. The two platforms therefore differ not only in clock speed but also in core design, GPU architecture, drivers, software libraries, modem implementation, and manufacturer tuning.

A benchmark score is not a universal property of a chip independent of the phone. Cooling, RAM, storage, firmware, battery level, performance mode, display resolution, and thermal limits can materially change a device’s result.

Which chip has better benchmark results?

The Snapdragon 8 Elite has the stronger available benchmark evidence. The most useful direct comparison found tested the Realme GT 7 Pro with Snapdragon 8 Elite against the Realme GT 7 with Dimensity 9400e. The phones are related models, making the comparison more useful than combining random devices, but the test still should not be treated as a laboratory-controlled SoC experiment.

These figures are reported in the direct Realme benchmark comparison. The percentages describe that comparison, not every Snapdragon 8 Elite phone versus every Dimensity 9400e phone. The exact benchmark version and device conditions matter.

Aggregate database results

A larger user-submitted database also places the Snapdragon ahead, but the sample sizes are uneven and the submissions may use different firmware, cooling, battery states, performance modes, and benchmark versions. These results are useful as directional evidence rather than controlled scientific measurements.

Benchmark Snapdragon 8 Elite aggregate Dimensity 9400e aggregate Approximate lead

How much faster is the Snapdragon 8 Elite in CPU performance?

The Snapdragon 8 Elite has the clearest advantage in CPU performance. In the reported Realme comparison, the Snapdragon scored approximately 41% higher in Geekbench 6 single-core and approximately 30% higher in Geekbench 6 multi-core. NanoReview’s aggregate results show a smaller but still substantial lead of approximately 36% in single-core and 27% in multi-core.

The Oryon design and higher maximum frequency help explain why Snapdragon performs strongly in short, CPU-heavy tests. The advantage can matter for demanding photo processing, compiling code, heavy browser work, large file operations, some emulation workloads, and applications that depend heavily on one fast core.

A benchmark advantage does not mean that a phone will feel 40% faster when opening every application. Everyday scrolling, messaging, video streaming, and social-media use may feel similar because both chips are already extremely fast and because app launch time also depends on storage, software, memory management, and network response.

Which chip is better for gaming and GPU performance?

The Snapdragon 8 Elite is the safer choice for peak graphics performance, demanding games, ray tracing, and emulation, based on the available results and Qualcomm’s Adreno platform ecosystem. The direct Realme comparison showed an approximately 35% AnTuTu GPU lead, while NanoReview’s aggregate Geekbench compute result showed an approximately 51% lead. The aggregate compute result has uneven samples and should not be treated as a universal gaming percentage.

The Dimensity 9400e is still a flagship-class gaming platform, not a midrange chip. The Dimensity 9400e’s Immortalis-G925-class GPU supports hardware ray tracing, and a well-cooled Dimensity phone can deliver excellent frame rates in many games.

Gaming performance has several separate dimensions:

Gaming measure What it describes Why the phone matters
Peak frame rate Maximum performance during a short or cool test A higher-performing chip usually helps, but performance mode and game settings also affect the result
Sustained frame rate Performance after roughly 15–30 minutes or longer Vapor-chamber size, chassis design, ambient temperature, and throttling can change the winner
Frame-time consistency Stutter, frame pacing, and 1% lows Drivers, game optimization, thermal limits, and background software matter
Power efficiency Performance delivered for the energy consumed Battery capacity, display resolution, modem use, and scheduling affect the complete phone
Compatibility Whether games, emulators, and graphics APIs work well Driver maturity and game-specific optimization can matter more than a synthetic score
Thermal comfort How warm the phone feels in the hand Surface temperature is not the same as internal chip temperature

Do not use AnTuTu alone to declare a universal gaming winner. A phone with a larger vapor chamber, active cooling, lower display resolution, or less aggressive thermal throttling can outperform a faster chip during a long gaming session. Qualcomm’s Adreno platform features also indicate the Snapdragon’s graphics and software ecosystem, but platform support does not guarantee identical results in every title.

Qualcomm and MediaTek may report AI performance using different precisions, models, sparsity assumptions, workloads, and measurement methods. TOPS figures from different vendors are not directly comparable unless the testing method is the same.

Real-world AI performance also depends on the phone’s RAM, Android version, OEM software, available models, app support, and whether an application uses the relevant Qualcomm or MediaTek SDK. The Snapdragon may have an ecosystem advantage in some applications, but “more TOPS” alone does not prove that a phone will produce better or faster results.

Do these chips determine camera and video quality?

Neither the Snapdragon 8 Elite nor the Dimensity 9400e automatically produces better photos. The image signal processor, camera sensors, lenses, stabilization, HDR pipeline, computational photography software, and OEM tuning usually matter more to the final image than the chip name.

The SoC can affect maximum sensor support, image processing, video encoding and decoding, HDR capabilities, and compatibility with third-party camera applications. However, a phone manufacturer may not enable every platform capability. Buyers should check the exact handset’s supported recording modes, frame rates, resolution limits, stabilization, and camera-app behavior.

A Dimensity phone with better sensors and more effective camera tuning can take better photos than a Snapdragon phone with weaker camera hardware. Chipset comparisons should therefore treat camera capability as a phone-level question.

How do connectivity features compare?

The Snapdragon 8 Elite platform uses Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X80 5G Modem-RF System and advertises peak modem download capability of up to 10 Gbps on Qualcomm’s platform page. The Dimensity 9400e has an integrated 5G modem and Wi-Fi 7-class support according to MediaTek’s product material. Actual connectivity depends on the handset, region, carrier, antennas, RF components, firmware, and certification.

Connectivity factor What to compare on the actual phone Why platform specifications are not enough
5G Supported bands, carrier aggregation, sub-6 GHz, and any mmWave support Regional modem and RF configurations can differ
Wi-Fi Wi-Fi generation, channel width, router compatibility, and throughput Wi-Fi 7-class support may depend on handset components and software
Bluetooth Bluetooth version, codecs, and accessory compatibility OEM software and regional certification affect available features
Carrier service Local carrier certification and band compatibility An imported phone may not support important local bands

Qualcomm’s official Snapdragon platform information describes platform-level capability, not a promise that every phone model exposes every modem or wireless feature. Check the regional product page before buying an imported handset.

Which chip has better battery life and thermals?

There is no controlled evidence in the supplied comparison that establishes a universal battery-life or thermal winner between the Snapdragon 8 Elite and Dimensity 9400e. A synthetic benchmark score does not measure battery endurance, and the Dimensity 9400e’s lower peak performance does not automatically mean that its phone will last longer.

Battery life depends on battery capacity, display size and resolution, refresh rate, brightness, modem conditions, software scheduling, background activity, cooling, and the manufacturer’s power limits. A 3 nm-class process also does not prove that a particular Snapdragon phone will be more efficient than a 4 nm-class Dimensity phone.

For sustained gaming, the better phone may be the model that throttles less, even if the rival posts the higher first-run score. A credible head-to-head thermal test should use the same game, graphics settings, brightness, ambient temperature, battery starting level, test duration, and performance mode. Without those controls, claims that one chip is always cooler or more efficient are overstated.

How trustworthy are the benchmark numbers?

The benchmark results are useful for identifying the likely performance direction, but they are not a precise prediction of every phone’s behavior. The direct Realme comparison is more informative than unrelated-device results, while the NanoReview figures provide broader but less controlled evidence.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Benchmark-version mismatch: AnTuTu 10, AnTuTu 11, Geekbench 6, and older versions are not interchangeable. Every comparison should identify its version.
  • Performance mode: GT, high-performance, and gaming modes can materially change scores.
  • Temperature: A cold phone may score higher on its first run than a warmed phone.
  • Battery level: Low battery can trigger performance limits.
  • Firmware: Updates can change CPU scheduling, thermal behavior, and benchmark detection.
  • Regional variants: The same phone name can have different RAM, storage, modem, camera, and software configurations.
  • Display resolution: A lower-resolution screen can make graphics workloads easier.
  • Cooling: Vapor chambers and chassis design can outweigh a modest SoC advantage during long sessions.
  • Game optimization: A game may be better optimized for Snapdragon even when raw GPU performance is closer.
  • Emulation: Driver maturity and compatibility can matter more than AnTuTu.
  • AI testing: Vendor TOPS claims are not directly comparable without identical workloads and measurement methods.

For those reasons, the reported 29% AnTuTu advantage and 41% Geekbench 6 single-core advantage should be read as results from a particular comparison, not promises that every Snapdragon 8 Elite phone will beat every Dimensity 9400e phone by exactly those percentages.
