The Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 has a higher AnTuTu score in one published comparison, but that result is not a controlled, same-condition test against the Dimensity 9300. The chips also use different CPU and GPU designs, and manufacturer performance claims are not direct head-to-head measurements. Here are the specifications, available benchmark figures, and what they can—and cannot—tell you about a phone.
How the processors differ
These are smartphone platforms, not standalone components intended for consumers to install. Their specifications describe the chip designs; the performance a buyer experiences also depends on the phone built around them.
| Feature | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 | Dimensity 9300 |
|---|---|---|
| CPU | Third-generation Qualcomm Oryon CPU. Qualcomm also lists a 7-core CPU version, so not every implementation should be assumed to have an identical configuration. Qualcomm specifications | Four Arm Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores, described by MediaTek as an all-big-core CPU. MediaTek specifications |
| GPU | Adreno GPU. Qualcomm specifications | 12-core Arm Immortalis-G720 GPU. MediaTek specifications |
| AI processor | Hexagon NPU. Qualcomm specifications | Not stated on the cited MediaTek product page. |
Which is faster?
The available benchmark figures favor the tested Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 device in AnTuTu, but they do not establish a universal performance margin between the chips. The reported scores come from tested devices, and the comparison does not establish that the phones used identical cooling, software, or test conditions.
AnTuTu comparison
91Mobiles reports an AnTuTu score of 4,033,382 for its tested Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 device and 2,038,916 for its tested Dimensity 9300 device. These are publisher-reported results, not guaranteed scores for every phone using either processor. See the 91Mobiles comparison.

Geekbench evidence
Tom’s Guide reports Geekbench 6 results of 3,832 single-core and 12,208 multi-core for a Qualcomm-supplied Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 reference device. It is not a matched Dimensity 9300 result, so it cannot settle which processor is faster in a direct comparison. Read Tom’s Guide’s benchmark report.
What the manufacturers claim
Qualcomm announced 20% CPU performance improvement and 23% graphics performance improvement for the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, relative to the comparison context in its announcement. Those percentages are Qualcomm’s claims, not independent results measured directly against the Dimensity 9300. Qualcomm’s announcement.

MediaTek describes the Dimensity 9300 as the first 5G smartphone chip to use only big CPU cores, combining four Cortex-X4 and four Cortex-A720 cores. That description explains its design; it does not provide a directly comparable benchmark result against the Snapdragon chip. MediaTek’s product page.
Which chip is better for gaming?
The specifications identify different graphics architectures—Adreno for Snapdragon and a 12-core Immortalis-G720 for Dimensity—but the cited evidence does not provide a controlled, same-phone-condition gaming comparison. Qualcomm’s 23% graphics improvement is a manufacturer claim in its own comparison context, not proof of a particular advantage over the Dimensity 9300.

For gaming, compare the specific phones as well as their chip names. Cooling, power settings, and sustained performance can affect how a handset behaves during longer sessions; the processor comparison alone does not determine those model-level outcomes.

Choose between actual phone models, not just processor labels. Qualcomm says the Galaxy S26 Ultra uses the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 globally, while the Galaxy S26+ and S26 use it in select regions; that does not establish local stock or availability.
