There is no reliable, controlled head-to-head result here that establishes one of these processors as the universal winner. MediaTek’s official specifications describe the Dimensity 8500, while some third-party comparisons use the name “Dimensity 8500-Ultra”; the official material cited below does not confirm those labels are interchangeable. Benchmark figures also come from different chip variants and retail phones, so treat them as examples of measured performance—not a like-for-like verdict.
First, check which chip the name refers to
Qualcomm’s September 24, 2025 announcement names its platform Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. MediaTek’s official specification page lists the Dimensity 8500. The official MediaTek material cited here does not establish that a separately branded “Dimensity 8500 Ultra” has identical specifications.
Third-party comparison material does use “Dimensity 8500-Ultra” for a phone listing, including the POCO X8 Pro. That is evidence of the label used in that comparison, not proof that every “8500 Ultra” implementation or regional variant matches MediaTek’s listed Dimensity 8500. Check the exact phone model and regional specification before applying chip-level details to a handset.

What the published specifications establish
MediaTek Dimensity 8500
MediaTek lists an eight-core CPU made entirely of Arm Cortex-A725 cores: one core up to 3.4 GHz, three up to 3.2 GHz and four up to 2.2 GHz. The same page lists a Mali-G720 MC8 GPU, four-channel LPDDR5X memory support up to 9600 Mbps, UFS 4 with MCQ, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, a MediaTek NPU 880 and 5G-Advanced connectivity.

For imaging and displays, MediaTek lists support for camera sensors up to 320 MP, 4K video capture at 60 frames per second, and WQHD+ displays up to 144 Hz. These are platform capabilities, not guarantees that a particular phone will include or expose them. Phone makers determine the final camera hardware, memory configuration, display and software features.
Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
Qualcomm presents Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 as a mobile platform for flagship devices and highlights its third-generation Qualcomm Oryon CPU, on-device AI and APV professional video codec support. Qualcomm’s announcement also makes performance claims, including describing its Oryon CPU as the fastest mobile CPU ever. That is Qualcomm’s own marketing claim, not an independent comparative measurement.
The cited Qualcomm announcement does not provide a complete specification table suitable for a verified, row-by-row comparison with MediaTek’s page. It would be misleading to fill those gaps with uncited figures or to infer that a capability is absent simply because it is not itemized here.

How to read the benchmark results
Benchmarks measure performance on specific workloads and versions. They do not directly tell you how responsive a phone feels in daily use, how well it sustains a long gaming session, how hot it becomes, or how long its battery lasts. Cooling, firmware, power settings, memory configuration and the phone itself can all affect a result.
The available figures below come from third-party comparisons, not a controlled test of phones with the exact two title variants under matched conditions.
| Source and result | What was measured | Important context |
|---|---|---|
| NanoReview: AnTuTu 11 totals | 3,531,378 for Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series; 2,120,347 for Dimensity 8500 | The Snapdragon result is for the V Series label, not clean evidence for the exact Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 variant in this title. NanoReview notes fewer than three samples for some Snapdragon scores and limited samples in other tests. |
| NanoReview: Geekbench 6 | Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series: 3,474 single-core / 10,594 multi-core; Dimensity 8500: 1,555 single-core / 6,405 multi-core | These are reported Geekbench 6 results, with the same variant and limited-sample qualifications above. They are not a controlled comparison of the exact title variants. |
| Cputronic: Geekbench 6 device results | Examples include a OnePlus 15 labeled Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and a POCO X8 Pro labeled Dimensity 8500-Ultra | These are results associated with retail phones, not an isolated processor test. Cputronic notes that cooling and performance settings affect results; the phones and their configurations are not matched. |
The benchmark pages report different evidence types: chipset comparison scores and results associated with particular retail phones. Keep those categories separate. A numerical gap across unlike devices or variants cannot establish that the same gap will appear in every phone.

Which processor should you choose?
If you are comparing the published platform information, MediaTek’s Dimensity 8500 page gives a detailed CPU, memory, connectivity, imaging and display capability list. Qualcomm positions Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for flagship devices and emphasizes CPU, AI and video features, but the cited announcement is not a full specification table. Those differences in documentation do not, by themselves, settle real-world performance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFor a purchase, compare actual phones rather than relying on the processor name alone. The useful evidence is the exact regional model and chip variant, plus handset-level factors such as sustained performance, cooling, battery capacity, software support, camera implementation, price and local availability. Current prices and availability depend on the market; the cited material does not establish them.
