The Dimensity 7300X has the newer listed process class and a higher maximum big-core clock, while the Snapdragon 778G uses Qualcomm’s Adreno 642L GPU and X53 5G modem. Neither specification sheet establishes which chip is faster in real phones, and no controlled benchmark comparison for this exact pair is established by the available evidence. The 7300X’s clearest distinction is its explicit support for dual-display flip phones.
How the specifications compare
These are platform specifications, not guarantees about every phone that uses the chip. Manufacturers choose which supported features to implement, and handset design affects real-world performance.
| Specification | Snapdragon 778G | Dimensity 7300X |
|---|---|---|
| Manufacturing process | 6nm, per Qualcomm | 4nm-class, per MediaTek |
| CPU | Kryo 670, up to 2.4GHz | Four Cortex-A78 cores up to 2.5GHz, plus four Cortex-A55 cores |
| GPU | Adreno 642L | Arm Mali-G615 MC2 |
| AI hardware | Hexagon 770; Qualcomm states up to 12 TOPS for its AI engine | MediaTek NPU 655 |
| 5G connectivity | Snapdragon X53 modem; Qualcomm lists mmWave and Sub-6 GHz support | 3GPP Release 16 modem; MediaTek states a maximum 3.27Gbps downlink and 3CC carrier aggregation |
| Display support | Full HD+ up to 144Hz | WFHD+ up to 120Hz or Full HD+ up to 144Hz; dual-display flip-phone support |
| Memory and storage | Check the specifications of the individual phone; the platform page is not a promise about every handset configuration | LPDDR4x or LPDDR5 memory and UFS 3.1 storage support |

The available evidence does not establish a reliable head-to-head benchmark result for the Snapdragon 778G and Dimensity 7300X. A published comparison of the Snapdragon 778G and Dimensity 7300 concerns the Dimensity 7300, not the 7300X; its scores should not be treated as results for this exact pairing. That comparison identifies the 7300 rather than the 7300X.

MediaTek and Qualcomm both publish performance-related claims for their platforms, but vendor claims are not neutral tests of these two chips under identical phone, cooling, software, and power conditions. Without such a comparison, a definitive benchmark winner would be unsupported.
What the process, CPU and GPU numbers do—and don’t—tell you
Process class and clock speed
MediaTek lists the 7300X as 4nm-class, with four Cortex-A78 cores up to 2.5GHz; Qualcomm lists the 778G as a 6nm platform with a Kryo 670 CPU up to 2.4GHz. These listed figures favor the 7300X on process class and maximum big-core clock, but neither figure alone proves faster everyday use or longer battery life. Sustained performance also depends on the phone’s cooling, power limits, software, and workload.

Graphics
The chips use different GPU families: Adreno 642L in the 778G and Mali-G615 MC2 in the 7300X. A model name alone does not establish which will deliver better gaming performance in a finished phone. Game support, graphics settings, cooling, and sustained power all matter, and the available sources do not provide a controlled exact-pair GPU test.
AI figures
Qualcomm lists a Hexagon 770 and says its AI engine can reach up to 12 TOPS; MediaTek lists an NPU 655. These platform labels and the stated Qualcomm maximum are not a direct measure of which phone will perform better for a particular AI feature.

What the “X” in Dimensity 7300X means
MediaTek announced the Dimensity 7300 and 7300X on May 30, 2024, positioning the 7300X for flip-style foldable devices with dual-display support. Its product specifications also list dual-display capabilities. The phone maker determines the actual screen arrangement and how that capability is used, so the designation points to a platform distinction rather than a guarantee that every 7300X phone has the same foldable design.

Which one should you choose?
You cannot ordinarily upgrade a phone’s system-on-chip independently; choose between actual phone models rather than treating the processor as a standalone replacement. Use the chipset details to understand a phone’s platform, then compare the handset features that shape your experience.
- Consider a Dimensity 7300X phone if dual-display flip-phone support is relevant to the device you are considering, or if its overall handset package best fits your needs.
- Consider a Snapdragon 778G phone if the specific model offers the screen, software support, connectivity, price, and performance characteristics you want. The chip name by itself does not guarantee a better result.
For either processor, compare the specific phones for sustained performance and thermal behavior, battery life, camera implementation, display, software support, price, and local 5G-band compatibility. Modem capabilities on a platform specification sheet do not ensure that a handset supports every band or network feature in your area.
