Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 has the stronger published CPU and memory specifications, while both chips are listed on a 4 nm process. Qualcomm also gives Gen 4 a higher theoretical 5G peak download rate. Third-party benchmark results point in the same direction for performance, but the samples are too limited—and the test conditions too varied—to treat them as a controlled, definitive head-to-head.

What the differences mean in practice
CPU and everyday responsiveness
Gen 4’s published peak CPU speed is higher than the 4s Gen 2’s listed performance-core maximum. That makes Gen 4 the stronger choice on paper for CPU-heavy tasks. Clock speed alone does not predict how long a phone can sustain that performance: the handset maker’s power limits, cooling, and software also matter.

LPDDR5 gives Gen 4 the newer memory class compared with the 4s Gen 2’s LPDDR4x support. The listed memory type and maximum do not guarantee that every phone using a chip will ship with the same memory configuration; manufacturers choose the configuration for each device.

Graphics and gaming
Third-party comparison pages identify the GPUs as Adreno 611 and Adreno 613, respectively, but Qualcomm’s cited platform pages do not specify those model numbers. GPU names alone do not establish a particular gaming-performance uplift. Game settings, phone cooling, display resolution, and software can all affect the result.
5G and wireless
Qualcomm lists a peak download rate of up to 1 Gbps for 4s Gen 2 and up to 2.5 Gbps for Gen 4. These are platform maxima, not speeds a user should expect in routine use. Supported bands, the carrier, network conditions, and the specific phone determine real-world connectivity. Both platforms list Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1, so these specifications do not distinguish them.

Qualcomm’s July 30, 2024 announcement described the 4s Gen 2 as aimed at making 5G more accessible and cited a potential reach of 2.8 billion smartphone users in select regions. That figure is Qualcomm’s estimate, not an independently verified user count in the announcement.
What the benchmark results show—and what they cannot prove
Two third-party comparison pages report higher scores for Snapdragon 4 Gen 4, but they use different benchmark versions and have limited samples. Treat them as directional evidence, not as a controlled test of two finished phones.

| 91Mobiles AnTuTu | 381,047 | 622,466 in the page’s lead text; 626,958 in its summary and benchmark details |
| 91Mobiles Geekbench single-core / multi-core | 840 / 1,963 | 955 / 2,333 |
| NanoReview AnTuTu 11 | 506,757 | 593,849 |
| NanoReview Geekbench 6 single-core / multi-core | 838 / 1,899 | 952 / 2,328 |
91Mobiles’ Gen 4 AnTuTu total differs within its own page, so it should not be treated as one consistent score. NanoReview says its AnTuTu comparison draws on two tests for 4s Gen 2 and fewer than three for Gen 4; it reports fewer than three Geekbench samples and no recent user benchmark results for Gen 4. Neither page establishes identical phones, software, temperatures, or test conditions. Scores from AnTuTu and Geekbench versions should not be combined as though they were the same test.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Which chip should you choose?
Choose a phone with Snapdragon 4 Gen 4 if
- You want the stronger published CPU peak and LPDDR5 support.
- You are comparing platform specifications and Gen 4 is available in an otherwise suitable phone.
- The particular handset also meets your needs for battery life, display, camera, storage, and local network compatibility.
Consider a Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 phone if
- The phone’s overall features and price suit you better than the available Gen 4 models.
- You do not need Gen 4’s higher published peak CPU or memory specifications.
- You have checked the exact model’s regional network bands and other device-level specifications.
A chip comparison cannot settle which phone will last longer on a charge, stay cooler under sustained load, take better photos, or work better on a particular carrier. Compare specific retail models under the same workload and network conditions rather than inferring those outcomes from a 4 nm label or a theoretical modem peak. For example, 91Mobiles lists the Xiaomi Redmi A4 as a 4s Gen 2 phone, but regional variants and their specifications should be checked separately.
