The Smeg KBTAU600XE is a 60 cm stainless-steel, wall-mounted rangehood with three fan speeds, an intensive setting and a 150 mm vent outlet. Smeg’s Australian specifications rate extraction from 260 m³/h to 686 m³/h in IEC conditions, with noise ratings from 49 dBA to 72 dBA. Those are manufacturer figures, not independent test results, so they describe the published specification rather than proven performance in a particular kitchen.
What the KBTAU600XE is—and how large it is
KBTAU600XE is the model code for a decorative, T-flat wall hood in stainless steel. It measures 520 mm high × 600 mm wide × 450 mm deep. Check the available wall space and the planned duct route before choosing it: the hood’s 600 mm width alone does not establish that it will fit your cabinetry or installation.

What extraction and noise figures does Smeg publish?
Smeg’s Australian product listing gives the following IEC extraction and noise ratings. They are declared manufacturer specifications, not independent measurements. The noise a person hears and the extraction achieved in use can depend on the installation and kitchen; the figures alone do not establish either outcome for your home.

The same listing states a free-outlet maximum capacity of 820 m³/h. That is a separate specification and should not be confused with the 686 m³/h IEC intensive extraction rating. Smeg also lists energy class A and annual energy consumption of 53 kWh/year, alongside fluid-dynamic efficiency class A, grease-filtering efficiency class C and lighting efficiency class A. The 53 kWh/year figure is the manufacturer’s annual specification, not a measured household result.

Will it suit your hob and ducting?
The listed minimum clearance is 650 mm above a gas hob or 500 mm above an electric hob. These figures are product specifications, not a substitute for checking the appliance instructions and applicable local installation requirements for the actual hob and site. The hood is specified with a 150 mm vent outlet, so confirm that the duct diameter and route can accommodate it before installation; the published outlet size does not establish that a particular duct run will deliver the rated extraction.
The Australian listing says no plug is present and specifies a 220–240 V, 50–60 Hz supply. Confirm the electrical connection and installation arrangements with a qualified installer as needed rather than assuming it can be connected like a plug-in appliance.

Which controls and filters are included?
The KBTAU600XE has electronic button controls with three speeds and an intensive setting. Its listed features also include automatic switch-off and a 24-hour air-filter function, which Smeg describes as briefly running the hood at low speed each hour. The model has two 3000 K LED lights, two aluminium grease filters and a filter-replacement indicator.

What the specifications do—and do not—tell you
On paper, the model offers a wide range of stated fan settings, with the highest IEC extraction rating paired with the highest listed noise rating. That gives you a useful trade-off to consider, but not a basis for claiming how effective or quiet it will be in a real kitchen. No substantiated independent measurements, owner feedback, reliability evidence or comparative review were established for this assessment. Treat the figures as a specification-led guide, not a hands-on verdict.

- Confirm that the 600 mm width and 520 × 450 mm height-and-depth dimensions suit the intended location.
- Check the 150 mm outlet against the planned duct and installation route.
- Verify the required hob clearance, local rules and electrical connection for your kitchen.
- Ask the seller or installer to confirm any recirculation requirements and model-specific accessory compatibility.
