Choose the Smeg AFC01 if you want one uninterrupted cooking space and a simpler single-basket workflow. Choose a Ninja dual-zone model if you regularly cook separate foods, need different settings at the same time, or want two smaller drawers. The closest capacity match is the Ninja AF300, while the AF400UK is larger overall. Those are layout and specification differences—not proof that one brand produces better-tasting food.
The comparison below separates basket design, usable capacity, functions, dimensions, electrical requirements, accessories, warranty evidence and price. No controlled Smeg-versus-Ninja test is available in the cited sources, so there is no defensible performance winner.
At a glance: the decision is one basket versus two
| Model | Basket layout | Advertised capacity | Named functions or modes | Published regional details |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Smeg AFC01 | One basket | 7.3 L | Crispy and Juicy+Crispy modes; seven food-program labels | Smeg Australia lists 322 × 310 × 310 mm, 1450 W and 220–240 V |
| Ninja AF400UK | Two drawers, 4.75 L each | 9.5 L total | Max Crisp, Air Fry, Dehydrate, Roast, Bake and Reheat | UK model data; confirm the suffix and electrical specification sold in your market |
| Ninja AF300 | Two drawers, 3.8 L each | 7.6 L total | Dual-zone Ninja format; exact function list varies by regional listing | Ninja support data identifies the AF300 as the smaller comparison model |
Litres are not a complete measure of meal fit. A single 7.3-litre cavity can accommodate one large item more conveniently than two narrow drawers, while two drawers can be more useful when the foods must remain separate. Before buying, compare the internal shape and opening dimensions with the dishes, trays and portions you actually use.
How the cooking layouts change your routine
Smeg AFC01: one continuous cooking space
The AFC01 uses one basket. That gives you a single cooking area rather than a pair of compartments divided by a central housing. It suits a household that normally prepares one food at a time, cooks a large batch of one item, or prefers to shake and check one basket without coordinating two zones.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Smeg promotes two cooking modes: Crispy and Juicy+Crispy. Its product copy describes the latter as aiming for a golden exterior with tenderness inside. That is a description of Smeg’s intended mode, not an independent test result. The official listing also shows seven food-program labels, but the specification does not identify every label; do not assume those labels represent seven separate heating systems.
Ninja AF400UK: two 4.75-litre drawers
The AF400UK divides its advertised volume between two drawers. Separate compartments let you keep foods apart and choose different settings for each side, which is useful when one ingredient needs a different temperature, time or cooking function. The exact way a local model coordinates completion or synchronization should be confirmed in its manual rather than assumed from the dual-zone design.
Two drawers can also reduce the need to combine foods that release different amounts of moisture or require different handling. The trade-off is physical: each drawer is smaller than the full combined volume, and a large single item may not fit even though the total capacity appears greater. You also have two handles and two baskets to load, empty and wash, so the convenience depends on whether separation is part of your normal routine.

Ninja AF300: the smaller dual-zone option
The AF300 keeps the two-drawer concept but uses 3.8-litre drawers, for 7.6 litres in total. It is therefore close to the AFC01 on headline capacity while retaining separate cooking zones. This model is the more natural Ninja comparison for shoppers who want dual-zone flexibility without moving to the AF400UK’s larger total volume.
Ninja support material says the AF400 cooks up to 25% more than the AF300. That is a manufacturer comparison claim, not an independently measured result, and it should be read as a statement about the advertised capacity relationship rather than a guarantee about the number of portions any household can serve. The practical question is whether your usual portions fit each individual 3.8-litre or 4.75-litre drawer.
Capacity: why the litre number is only a starting point
Single-basket capacity
The AFC01’s stated 7.3-litre volume is concentrated in one basket. That configuration can be advantageous for foods that need to lie in one layer across a broad surface or for items whose shape does not divide neatly between drawers. It can also simplify loading when you are cooking one recipe in a batch. A single basket does not mean every 7.3-litre item has the same usable floor area, so consult the local dimensional drawing if a particular dish is important.
Split capacity
The AF400UK’s 9.5 litres are split into two 4.75-litre drawers, while the AF300’s 7.6 litres are split into two 3.8-litre drawers. Neither total should be treated as directly interchangeable with a single cavity. A split design gives you more control over separation, but each side has its own width, depth and height limits. Two half-sized portions can fit comfortably while one oversized roast, baking container or whole ingredient cannot.

Measure the foods you cook
Use this checklist before comparing capacities:
- Measure the largest dish, piece of protein or baking container you expect to use.
- Check whether that item needs to remain whole or can be divided into two portions.
- Allow room for airflow and for removing the basket safely; a cavity that technically accepts an item may still be inconvenient when tightly packed.
- For two-drawer models, measure each portion independently rather than adding the drawer volumes.
- Check the shape of the basket base, not just the published litres, if you often cook flat foods.
- Consider the smallest regular batch as well as the largest: two zones are useful only if each drawer is practical for your everyday quantities.
The correct question is not simply “Which has more litres?” It is “Will the foods I cook fit in the arrangement I prefer?”
Functions and controls: compare the names, not the marketing count
Smeg’s named modes
Smeg highlights Crispy and Juicy+Crispy modes and lists seven food-program labels. The mode names describe cooking aims, but they do not establish a measured difference in browning, moisture retention, speed or energy use. Treat them as selectable presets whose usefulness depends on the foods and quantities you prepare. If you prefer manual control, check the local instructions for the temperature and time ranges behind each program.
Ninja’s listed functions
The AF400UK product information names Max Crisp, Air Fry, Dehydrate, Roast, Bake and Reheat. These labels cover several types of use, from high-intensity crisping to lower-temperature drying and reheating. A longer function list does not automatically mean better results; it indicates more named operating choices. A function shown on the UK page may be labelled differently, or omitted, on an AF400 sold in another region, so compare manuals for the exact suffix.
What cannot be concluded
The available specifications do not establish which appliance is faster, quieter, easier to clean, more durable or more economical to run. They also do not establish a taste winner. Those questions require controlled, model-specific testing under the same food, load, temperature and timing conditions. Do not turn Smeg’s “golden results” wording or Ninja’s function names into guarantees about your own meals.

Countertop dimensions and clearance
Smeg Australia publishes the AFC01 at 322 × 310 × 310 mm. A German Ninja support page lists the AF400EU at 32.5 × 41.5 × 27 cm. These figures come from different countries and different model suffixes, and the sources do not provide a common dimensional convention. They are useful orientation points, not a substitute for the manual for your exact appliance.
The numbers also illustrate why a simple width ranking can mislead. The AF400EU figure includes a 41.5 cm dimension, which may affect how far the appliance projects from a wall or cabinet when its drawers are pulled out. The AFC01 listing is an Australian product record, while the Ninja figure is for an EU support page; neither should be copied onto an unverified local listing.
Before ordering, verify the local model number and measure:

- The counter footprint with the basket or drawers fully inserted.
- The front clearance needed to pull out the basket without hitting a cabinet or wall.
- Vertical space above the appliance for hot-air exhaust and for lifting food out.
- Socket location and cable reach.
- Any clearance language in the local manual, especially if the appliance will sit beneath overhead cabinets.
- Whether the appliance can remain in its intended position while hot, rather than being moved after every use.
Do not infer that the AF400EU dimensions apply unchanged to the AF400UK, or that an Australian AFC01 measurement describes every regional package.
Power, accessories and warranty evidence
Smeg AFC01 documentation
Smeg Australia lists 1450 W and 220–240 V for the AFC01. The same Australian listing identifies a basket and grill rack as included accessories and states a two-year parts-and-labour warranty. Those are regional terms: confirm the voltage, included rack and warranty conditions for the country where you will buy the appliance. A warranty statement also needs to be read alongside the seller’s return process and any registration requirement shown in local documents.
Ninja documentation
The collected Ninja sources do not provide comparable figures for the AF400 or AF300’s power rating, accessory package or warranty. Do not assume that an accessory or warranty offered in one market is included in another. Check the exact local product page and warranty document before treating those items as part of the comparison. If a retailer bundles an extra rack or tray, record that bundle separately from the manufacturer’s standard package.
Price: one dated figure is not a like-for-like comparison
T3 reported a UK price of £199.95 for the Smeg AFC01 in an article dated October 9, 2026. That is a historical editorial snapshot, not a guaranteed current price or a universal regional price. The cited sources do not provide a matched current Ninja price, so it would be misleading to declare either appliance better value from these figures alone.
When checking prices, record the model suffix, country, retailer, date, delivery charge and included accessories. Compare the total delivered cost, not only the headline number. A dual-zone model may cost more because of its larger housing or additional controls, but that extra spending only makes sense if separate cooking zones solve a problem in your kitchen. Conversely, a lower-priced single basket is not a saving if its shape forces you to cook repeated batches for the foods you regularly prepare.
Prices can also differ between a manufacturer storefront and a retailer promotion. Check whether the offer is for a new appliance, a refurbished unit or a package with altered accessories, and confirm the seller’s warranty route before treating two listings as equivalent.
Which model fits common household situations?
Choose the AFC01 when one large zone is your priority
- You usually cook one recipe or one type of food per batch.
- You want a single basket rather than two compartments to load, shake and empty.
- Your typical food is bulky or shaped awkwardly for two smaller drawers.
- You value the Australian listing’s documented 1450 W rating, rack and two-year parts-and-labour warranty, and those terms are confirmed for your market.
- Your counter is better suited to one basket’s opening path than to two front drawers.
Choose the AF400UK when separation and total volume matter
- You regularly prepare two foods that should not share a basket.
- You need independent settings for the two sides.
- Your counter has room for the AF400’s footprint and front clearance.
- You have verified that the UK model or its local equivalent is the version you can actually purchase.
- You often need more advertised total volume than the AFC01 or AF300, while accepting that it remains divided between two drawers.
Choose the AF300 when you want dual zones at a smaller scale
- You prefer two drawers but do not need the AF400UK’s larger advertised total.
- Your portions fit within two 3.8-litre compartments.
- You are comparing the AF300’s local price, warranty and accessories rather than assuming they match the AF400.
- You want the dual-zone workflow while keeping the headline capacity close to the AFC01’s 7.3 litres.
Questions to ask before you buy
Write down the meals you make most often, then test each model against the same list. Do you cook a main and side simultaneously, or do you normally make one large batch? Does your largest item need a broad uninterrupted surface? Are two different temperatures genuinely useful, or would they add another set of controls to manage? Will both drawers hold the portions you serve, or will one side sit mostly empty?

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
Next, check the room rather than relying on product photography. Mark the appliance footprint on the counter with tape, then allow for the basket or drawer travel shown in the local manual. Confirm that a nearby socket can be reached without an extension arrangement that the manual prohibits. If the appliance will live under cabinets, check the required overhead clearance and exhaust direction.
Finally, compare ownership details in writing: exact suffix, voltage, included basket or rack, warranty length and provider, delivery charge and return window. These checks prevent a specification that is correct for an Australian Smeg listing or a German AF400EU support page from being mistaken for the package sold in your country.
A practical buying process
- Write down your largest regular food. Include its length, width and height, and note whether it must remain whole.
- Decide whether foods need to stay separate. If the answer is often yes, a dual-zone layout has a functional advantage; if not, a single basket may be simpler.
- Compare internal measurements. Use the local manual or specification sheet, not only the litre headline.
- Confirm the exact suffix. AF400UK, AF400EU and AF300 references are not interchangeable product records.
- Check the counter and socket. Include drawer-opening travel, overhead clearance and ventilation space.
- Verify the package. Confirm racks, trays, manuals, voltage and warranty terms for the seller and country.
- Check price on the same date. Do not compare a dated review price with an unverified current offer.
- Base the final choice on workflow. Select the layout that removes the most friction from the meals you actually make.
What this comparison can—and cannot—tell you
The specifications clearly establish the central hardware distinction: Smeg uses one 7.3-litre basket, while the cited Ninja examples divide their volume between two drawers. They also establish different named functions and provide regional dimensional and electrical information for selected variants.
They do not establish a controlled cooking-performance result. No matched test in the cited material measures browning, tenderness, cooking time, noise, cleaning effort, energy consumption or long-term reliability across these appliances. Manufacturer mode descriptions and capacity comparisons should therefore remain separate from independent performance claims.
For a purchase decision, that limitation is useful rather than frustrating: it directs attention to the variables you can verify immediately—fit, layout, controls, clearance, local package, warranty and current price. If two appliances both fit your food and budget, choose the one whose basket arrangement matches your normal preparation sequence.
Bottom line
The Smeg AFC01 is the single-basket choice for a continuous cooking area and a straightforward one-zone routine. The Ninja AF400UK is the larger dual-drawer option, and the AF300 is the smaller dual-zone alternative. Decide by asking whether your kitchen benefits more from one uninterrupted basket or from two separately managed spaces; the published specifications do not justify naming a universal cooking-quality winner.

Is the Smeg AFC01 bigger than the Ninja AF300?
On stated total volume, the Smeg AFC01 is 7.3 L and the Ninja AF300 is 7.6 L. The Smeg places that volume in one basket, while the AF300 splits it between two 3.8 L drawers, so the figures are close but the usable shapes differ.

How much capacity does the Ninja AF400 have compared with the AF300?
Ninja lists the AF400UK at 9.5 L total, with two 4.75 L drawers. Ninja support lists the AF300 at 7.6 L total, with two 3.8 L drawers, and describes the AF400 as cooking up to 25% more. That percentage is a manufacturer comparison, not an independent measurement.
Which is better for cooking two different foods?
The Ninja AF400 and AF300 have two drawers, so foods can remain separate and each side can use its own setting. The AFC01 has one basket. Whether the two-zone arrangement is worth choosing depends on how often you need separation and whether both drawer sizes fit your portions.
Does the Smeg AFC01 have more cooking programs than the Ninja AF400?
Smeg lists Crispy and Juicy+Crispy modes plus seven food-program labels. Ninja lists Max Crisp, Air Fry, Dehydrate, Roast, Bake and Reheat for the AF400UK. Counts are not directly comparable, and they do not prove a difference in cooking quality.
What are the published dimensions?
Smeg Australia lists the AFC01 at 322 × 310 × 310 mm. A German Ninja support page lists the AF400EU at 32.5 × 41.5 × 27 cm. Because these are different regions and suffixes, verify the exact local model and clearance requirements before buying.
What accessories and warranty are documented?
The Australian Smeg listing identifies a basket, grill rack and a two-year parts-and-labour warranty, alongside a 1450 W, 220–240 V specification. Comparable accessory, power and warranty details were not established for the Ninja models in the cited product pages, so check the local Ninja documents.
What did the Smeg AFC01 cost?
T3 reported £199.95 in the UK in its October 9, 2026 review. That is a dated editorial price, not a current guarantee. A matched current Ninja price was not established, so compare both products using same-date local listings.
Can these specifications prove which air fryer tastes better?
No. The cited specifications do not include a controlled Smeg-versus-Ninja cooking test, so they cannot establish a winner for taste, speed, noise, cleaning, energy use or durability.
What’s actually slowing this PC down?

The Bottom Line
Choose by workflow, not litre totals alone. The Smeg AFC01 gives you one 7.3 L basket; Ninja’s AF300 gives two 3.8 L drawers, and the AF400UK gives two 4.75 L drawers. Verify the local suffix, dimensions, voltage, accessories, warranty and same-date price, then select the layout that best matches the foods and portions you actually cook.
