Before buying a smart ring, check four things for the exact model: its sizing kit, the phone and app requirements, what features remain without a subscription, and how the maker collects and protects your data. These details vary by product. Oura and RingConn provide useful examples, but their policies and specifications should not be treated as rules for every smart ring.
How do I determine my smart ring size?
Use the sizing kit for the exact brand and model you plan to buy. Ring sizes are not reliably interchangeable between ordinary rings, smart-ring brands, or even different models from one manufacturer.
Oura Ring
Oura says its sizes differ slightly from standard ring sizes and that half sizes are unavailable. It recommends wearing an Oura sizer for at least 24 hours, including while you sleep, before choosing. The ring should feel snug but comfortable; if you are between sizes, Oura recommends choosing the smaller size. It recommends the index, middle, or ring finger for signal quality. RingConn says its sizing differs from standard rings, other smart-ring brands, and across RingConn models. Its Gen 2 page recommends using a free sizing kit, noting that a poor fit can affect comfort and sensor accuracy. The Gen 3 page lists sizes 6–15 and shows sample rings for sizing. Do not assume a size that fits one RingConn generation will fit another: RingConn Gen 2 sizing guidance and RingConn Gen 3.

Which phones are compatible with a smart ring?
Check the current app requirements for the specific ring, rather than relying only on a Bluetooth label. Compatibility can depend on the phone’s operating system, required services, and the app version.
Oura’s listed requirements
Oura’s FAQ lists Apple iOS 16 or later, or Android 11 or later with Google Play services, and a phone that supports Bluetooth 5.0. Bluetooth must be enabled to sync. Oura says the ring can continue collecting data while disconnected or with Bluetooth off, then sync when the connection is restored. The FAQ also lists integrations including Apple Health, Android Health Connect, Strava, and Natural Cycles. Does a smart ring require a subscription?
Subscription terms are product-specific. Compare the recurring cost with what the app provides, and read what remains available if you stop paying.

Oura Membership
Oura says the ring and app still work without membership, but access to insights, personal health data, and benefits is much more limited. New members receive one month included. On October 9, 2026, Oura’s membership page listed U.S. rates of $5.99 monthly or $69.99 annually before tax; EU rates of €5.99 monthly or €69.99 annually after tax; and UK rates of £5.99 monthly or £69.99 annually after tax. Rates vary in other markets and may change, so check the page and checkout for your region: Oura Membership.
Oura says that if you cancel membership without deleting your account, your data and account information remain saved under its Privacy Policy. Canceling a subscription, deleting an account, and deleting health data are distinct actions.
RingConn Gen 3
RingConn advertises its Gen 3 as “No Subscription Required.” That is the manufacturer’s claim for this product; it does not establish that every feature, connected service, or future product generation will remain unchanged. RingConn Gen 3 product page.

Who owns smart-ring data, and what happens to it?
“Ownership” alone does not answer the practical privacy questions: what information is collected, why it is processed, who may process it, and what controls you have. The details below describe Oura’s published disclosures, not practices shared by all smart-ring makers.

Oura’s Privacy Policy describes collecting account and device information, details supplied by users, information generated through app and ring use, and some information received from partners. It says it uses personal data to provide personalized readiness, sleep, activity, and other health-status inferences. The policy also says trusted third-party processors, including cloud service providers, may process information on Oura’s behalf. Encryption and deletion controls
Oura’s Trust Center says Bluetooth data between the ring and phone is encrypted with AES-128, data in transit uses TLS 1.2 or higher, and stored data uses AES-256. It also describes controls for deleting all health data or data from a selected period. These are Oura’s stated security measures; the cited material does not independently audit them or establish equivalent practices elsewhere. Oura Trust Center.
What App Lock does—and does not do
Oura says App Lock is off by default. When enabled, it requires the phone’s biometrics or passcode after the selected interval. It adds a barrier to someone viewing app data through access to your phone, but does not stop syncing or replace understanding account and cloud processing.
