You can look up Slovak legal entities and entrepreneurs in the Register of Legal Entities, Entrepreneurs and Public Authorities (RPO) by IČO or by name. The Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic says public RPO data access is free and requires no registration. However, the official material cited here does not establish the live API routes or current JSON response schema, so confirm those details in the current documentation before building an integration.
What the RPO API is for
The RPO is Slovakia’s Register of Legal Entities, Entrepreneurs and Public Authorities. It is a public-register data source for identifying legal entities, entrepreneurs and public authorities. The current portal offers separate searches by identifier and by name, corresponding to the common Slovak queries “vyhľadať podľa IČO” and “vyhľadať podľa názvu.” The portal identifies the Ministry of Interior as the current operator. Open the RPO portal.
The Statistical Office’s REST API information page states: “Prístup k údajom je bezplatný a nevyžaduje si registráciu” (“Access to the data is free and does not require registration”). The page was last updated on 10 June 2026. Read the REST API information page.
Choose the lookup route: IČO or name

The current portal confirms the two search fields and visible controls, but that does not prove that every portal option is exposed through the API. The guide describing additional search behavior is dated 26 November 2021, so treat its details as historical unless current API documentation confirms them. Check the live search interface and current API documentation linked from the official service page.

What to verify before writing an API client
The Statistical Office’s 2023 annual report describes an open REST API and points to its API documentation. That reference establishes where technical details were documented, not that historical routes or behavior remain current. The available official material does not establish the present endpoint paths, parameter names, JSON keys, pagination, errors, rate limits, authentication behavior or versioning. Do not assume a sample request or response until you confirm it in the live documentation.
- Start from the current RPO portal or current operator’s API documentation, rather than relying on a route copied from an older integration.
- Confirm the API base URL and the documented search route for IČO and for name; check whether values belong in a path, query parameter or request body.
- Check whether requests need authentication, what response content type is returned, and the exact JSON structure, including how results, historical records and organizational units are represented.
- Verify pagination, error responses, rate limits and version or migration notes before automating repeated lookups.
- Test with a known record and compare the result with the current portal. Preserve the date and source of the returned public-register data in downstream records where that context matters.
Public data lookup is not the same as a formal extract
An API lookup is for obtaining public data; a formal register extract is a separate service with a different purpose and status. The Statistical Office’s user guide dated 26 November 2021 describes ordinary public data access without authentication and a separate extract workflow using eID, which could involve a fee where required by the source register. Because that process information is dated, check the current service requirements and any charge before relying on it. Consult the official electronic-services information.

Operator, data attribution and reuse
The Ministry of Interior became responsible for RPO administration and operation on 1 June 2026. The Statistical Office’s transition notice also says it remains the source of statistical codes for main economic activity under NACE Rev. 2.1 and sector classification under ESA 2010. This change helps explain why older API references may carry Statistical Office branding even though the Ministry is now the operator. Read the Statistical Office’s transition notice.

The RPO portal says the Ministry applies the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 (CC BY 4.0) license to RPO data it makes available under the statutory provisions identified in its notice. For redistribution or a product built from those data, follow the portal’s attribution requirements and review the notice and applicable legal provisions. Do not assume that the RPO data notice determines terms for every related service or formal extract. Review the portal’s license notice.
