If your Skullcandy Hesh Evo will not connect, use Skullcandy’s reset sequence: forget Hesh Evo in the source device’s Bluetooth settings, hold the headphones’ main button and volume-down button together for three seconds, then pair the headphones again when they enter pairing mode. The headphones should announce “Disconnected,” flash blue and red, announce “Pairing,” and then say “connected” after you select Hesh Evo.

This procedure is intended for phones, tablets, laptops, MP3 players and other Bluetooth devices. It does not make Hesh Evo compatible with every console, and Hesh Evo does not pair through the Skullcandy App.

Reset Hesh Evo Bluetooth pairing in the manufacturer’s order

A reset works by clearing the old Bluetooth relationship on both sides: you remove the saved Hesh Evo entry from the source device, then place the headphones into a fresh pairing state. Follow the order exactly rather than scanning repeatedly while the headphones still hold the old connection.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Forget Hesh Evo on the device you want to use. Open the phone, tablet, computer or other source device’s Bluetooth settings. In the paired-device list, select Hesh Evo and choose the option labeled Forget, Remove, Unpair or equivalent. The wording varies by operating system.
  2. Start the headphone reset. On the Hesh Evo, press and hold the main button and the volume-down button at the same time for 3 seconds.
  3. Watch and listen for the status change. The LEDs flash purple first. A voice prompt says “Disconnected.” The headphones then enter pairing mode, shown by blue/red flashing and a “Pairing” prompt.
  4. Scan again from the source device. Turn Bluetooth on if it is off, open the available-device list and select Hesh Evo. On Android, the path can include + Pair New Device. Approve any Pair or OK confirmation.
  5. Confirm the connection. A “connected” voice prompt indicates that the pairing step completed.

These instructions follow the Hesh Evo support guidance from Skullcandy. If the headphones never reach the blue/red pairing state, do not continue tapping the device list; repeat the forget-and-reset sequence first.

What each pairing signal tells you

Signal or screen result Meaning Next action
Purple LED flash followed by “Disconnected” The reset sequence has cleared the active connection state. Wait for the headphones to move into pairing mode before scanning.
Blue/red flashing and “Pairing” Hesh Evo is advertising itself for a new Bluetooth connection. Open the source device’s available-device list and choose the entry named Hesh Evo.
Hesh Evo appears in the list but pairing is rejected The source may still have an old or incomplete record. Forget the entry again, repeat the three-second two-button reset, and accept the Pair or OK prompt.
“connected” voice prompt Bluetooth pairing succeeded. If you hear no sound, check the computer or mobile device’s selected audio output separately.

Choose the correct device entry

Only select the Bluetooth entry named Hesh Evo. The Hesh Evo support page does not direct users to pair through the Skullcandy App; it explicitly says the headphones will not pair with that app. The manufacturer’s wording is: “No, the Hesh Evo will no pair with the Skullcandy App.” The grammar is reproduced exactly as displayed on that page.

If an app offers to discover or add the headphones, close that workflow and use the operating system’s ordinary Bluetooth settings instead. A successful app installation does not change the Bluetooth pairing process, and an app-based attempt can leave you looking for a device that is not supported there.

If Hesh Evo is not showing up

When Hesh Evo is absent from the available-device list, the most useful test is whether the headphones are actually advertising in pairing mode. A previously saved record, an interrupted reset or scanning too early can all produce the same symptom.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  1. Return to the source device’s paired-device list and remove any Hesh Evo record that remains.
  2. Hold the main button and volume-down button together for three seconds.
  3. Wait until the headphones have reached the blue/red pairing indication and the “Pairing” prompt.
  4. Refresh or reopen the source device’s available-device list, then select Hesh Evo.
  5. If the entry still does not appear, move the headphones close to the source device and repeat the sequence once more.

Do not select a similarly named device if one appears. The supported selection described by Skullcandy is the Hesh Evo entry itself.

When the list shows Hesh Evo but the connection times out

Start over rather than repeatedly pressing Pair on the stale listing. Forget Hesh Evo, perform the three-second button reset, wait for the pairing prompt, and then make one new pairing attempt. If another phone, tablet or computer is nearby and has a saved Hesh Evo record, temporarily turn Bluetooth off on that device while you make the new connection so it cannot compete for the headphones.

When the headphones leave pairing mode before you finish

Begin with the source device’s Bluetooth screen already open. Perform the reset, wait for the blue/red indication, and select Hesh Evo promptly. If the headphones have already stopped advertising, repeat the same sequence instead of trying to connect to an earlier listing.

Fix a connection that says “disconnected”

“Disconnected” is part of the documented reset feedback, so hearing it during the button sequence is not itself a failure. The important question is what happens afterward: the headphones should move into pairing mode and later announce “connected” after you select them.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
  • Disconnected appears and pairing mode follows: continue with the scan and select Hesh Evo.
  • Disconnected appears but no blue/red pairing indication follows: release the buttons, remove Hesh Evo from the source device again, and repeat the three-second reset.
  • The source reports connected, but audio is silent: Bluetooth pairing has completed; now use the source device’s sound or playback controls to select Hesh Evo as the active audio output. The Hesh Evo support page does not document the operating-system-specific output menus, so the labels and path depend on your phone, tablet or computer.
  • The connection drops after you move away: bring the headphones back near the source device and test again before treating the problem as a hardware fault.

Range, dropouts and environmental checks

Skullcandy lists Hesh Evo’s Bluetooth range as 30+ feet (10+ meters). That figure is a manufacturer specification, the support page does not state a publication year, and Skullcandy cautions that actual experience varies with the environment. Walls, nearby wireless equipment, crowded public spaces and the position of the source device can change the practical result.

Use a short-distance test to separate a pairing problem from a range problem:

  1. Place the source device and headphones close together.
  2. Forget Hesh Evo and complete the reset and pairing process.
  3. Play audio while the devices remain close.
  4. Walk away gradually and note whether the connection fails only at distance.

If the connection is stable nearby but unreliable at the edge of the room, reduce the distance and remove obstructions where possible. The published range is not a guarantee for every building or radio environment, and the support information does not provide a failure-rate threshold or a universal interference remedy.

Connect Hesh Evo to a laptop or desktop computer

Skullcandy says Hesh Evo can connect to a laptop and to any other device with a Bluetooth connection. The pairing sequence is the same: remove the old Hesh Evo record from the computer, reset the headphones with the main and volume-down buttons for three seconds, wait for pairing mode, and choose Hesh Evo in the computer’s Bluetooth device list.

Bluetooth pairing and audio routing are separate steps on many computers. After the computer confirms the connection, open its sound, playback or output controls and select Hesh Evo if the computer continues using its built-in speakers. The precise menu names vary by operating system and version; the Hesh Evo support page does not specify those computer menus.

Computer checklist

  • Bluetooth is enabled on the computer before you begin scanning.
  • The old Hesh Evo entry has been removed rather than merely disconnected.
  • The headphones are visibly in pairing mode when you search.
  • You select the exact Hesh Evo listing, not an unrelated nearby device.
  • The computer’s audio output is changed to Hesh Evo after pairing if necessary.

Phones, tablets and MP3 players

Hesh Evo is listed as working with phones, tablets, MP3 players, laptops and other Bluetooth devices. On a phone or tablet, the key distinction is between the saved-device list and the available-device list: remove Hesh Evo from the first, then search from the second after the headphones announce “Pairing.” Android users may see + Pair New Device before the available-device scan.

If a mobile device asks whether to pair, approve the Pair or OK prompt. A “connected” voice prompt from the headphones is the confirmation that the Bluetooth link itself succeeded. Music or calls can still be controlled by the phone’s selected output and app permissions, which are outside the Hesh Evo pairing instructions.

Console compatibility: Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PS4

Skullcandy lists Nintendo Switch as supported for Hesh Evo. The same support information lists Xbox One and PS4 as unsupported. A failed attempt on one of those unsupported consoles is therefore a compatibility limitation, not evidence that repeating the reset will make the connection work.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.
Target device Status listed by Skullcandy What to do
Nintendo Switch Supported Use the console’s Bluetooth audio settings and pair Hesh Evo after putting the headphones in pairing mode.
Xbox One Unsupported Do not expect the standard Hesh Evo Bluetooth reset to overcome the console’s stated incompatibility.
PS4 Unsupported Use a different supported audio method or device; the Hesh Evo reset does not change the listed console support.

Console software and accessory behavior can change over time, but the compatibility statements above are the ones provided for Hesh Evo in the manufacturer support material used here.

When resetting does not solve the problem

The reset is a pairing procedure, not a guarantee that every fault is software-related. The published Hesh Evo support information does not provide battery-health diagnostics, a success rate, a guaranteed remedy for failed buttons, radio interference or defective batteries, and it does not list current retail pricing. Use the symptoms below to decide whether another clean pairing attempt is worthwhile or whether support is appropriate.

Observed problem Reasonable next step What is not established
Hesh Evo never reaches pairing mode after a correctly timed reset Repeat the forget-and-reset sequence once with the source device nearby. If the result is unchanged, contact support. The support page does not identify a specific internal failure or promise that another reset will repair it.
Pairing works only at very short distance Test close to the source, then reduce obstacles and competing wireless activity. No guaranteed distance under every environmental condition is stated.
Bluetooth says connected but the computer plays through speakers Select Hesh Evo in the computer’s audio-output controls. Skullcandy does not document menus for each operating system.
The target is Xbox One or PS4 Treat the listed incompatibility as the deciding factor. The reset cannot be presented as a compatibility workaround.
The headphones show signs of a physical or battery fault Contact Skullcandy customer service before filing a warranty claim. No battery diagnostic procedure or guaranteed warranty outcome is provided in the support information.

Warranty and escalation

Skullcandy states that manufacturer defects are covered by a 1-Year Limited Warranty and recommends contacting customer service before filing a claim. Keep a record of the exact symptom, the source device, whether Hesh Evo reaches pairing mode, and whether the problem occurs at close range. That information helps support distinguish a pairing-state problem from a possible physical defect.

Before contacting support, document the result of one complete attempt: remove the saved Hesh Evo entry, hold the main and volume-down buttons for three seconds, wait for pairing mode, and try one nearby source device. Do not claim that the reset repaired the unit if the headphones never produced the expected pairing signals or if the connection failed immediately at close range.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

A compact decision path

  1. Not listed: forget Hesh Evo, reset for three seconds, wait for blue/red pairing mode, and scan again.
  2. Listed but refuses to pair: remove the stale entry and repeat the same sequence, then accept Pair or OK.
  3. Connected but silent: choose Hesh Evo as the source device’s audio output.
  4. Drops out: test within a few feet, then evaluate distance and environmental obstructions against the stated 30+ feet (10+ meters) range.
  5. Console attempt: Nintendo Switch is listed as supported; Xbox One and PS4 are listed as unsupported.
  6. Still failing after a clean nearby test: contact Skullcandy customer service and ask about the 1-Year Limited Warranty if the issue may be a manufacturer defect.

The Bottom Line

The reliable first move is a complete clean pairing: forget Hesh Evo, hold the main and volume-down buttons for three seconds, wait for the “Pairing” prompt, and select Hesh Evo from the source device’s Bluetooth list. If that works but audio does not, change the source’s output to Hesh Evo. If it will not enter pairing mode or fails at close range after one clean attempt, escalate to Skullcandy support rather than repeating the reset indefinitely.
