If Siri mode is missing or not working in the iPhone Camera app, first check whether your iPhone, software, language, and region support it. Apple calls the feature Siri AI (Beta): it uses Visual Intelligence to search, answer questions, or take an action based on what the camera sees. That is different from asking ordinary Siri to take a photo.
Apple’s support pages describe the settings and troubleshooting checks below, but not an official 11-step Camera-mode fix. Follow the checks that match your symptom; some will not apply to your iPhone or the way you activate Siri.
1. Confirm that your iPhone supports Siri AI
Apple says Siri AI in iOS 27 or later requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, or iPhone 16 model or later. If your model is not eligible, a settings change cannot make this Camera feature available. 2. Check iOS version and current availability
Apple describes Siri AI as a beta feature available in iOS 27 and later. Check Settings > General > Software Update for the iOS version installed and any available update. Having iOS 27 alone does not guarantee access: the iPhone must also meet Apple’s hardware and availability requirements.
3. Check language and region
Feature availability depends on supported language and region. Apple’s guide says Siri AI is initially available in English and will not initially be available in the EU on iOS. Check Apple’s current availability information because rollout details can change; do not assume the feature is available everywhere merely because your phone is compatible.

4. Open Siri mode from the Camera app
- Open the Camera app.
- Tap Siri to enter Siri mode.
- On supported models, you can also click and hold Camera Control.
- Point the camera at the object or scene you want Siri to interpret, then ask a relevant question, search, or request an action.
If you were asking regular Siri to take a picture, that is a different interaction. Start the Camera feature itself and direct it at what you want Siri AI to examine. Apple documents the Camera workflow in Siri AI: Use Siri mode in Camera on iPhone.
5. Check Camera Control settings
If you are trying to open Siri mode with Camera Control, inspect its click behavior at Settings > Camera > Camera Control. Check whether the configured Single Click or Double Click action matches how you are pressing the control. This check applies only to models with Camera Control; use the Siri entry in the Camera app if available on your device. Apple explains these controls in Use the Camera Control on iPhone.

6. Make sure Siri is enabled
Open Settings and select Siri or Apple Intelligence & Siri; the label can vary by software version. Turn Siri on and complete any setup prompts shown. Apple’s general guidance is in If Siri isn’t working on your iPhone or iPad.
7. Confirm that the iPhone is online
Siri requires an internet connection. Apple Support puts it plainly: “You must be connected to the internet to use Siri.” Check Wi-Fi or cellular connectivity and, if necessary, test another available network. A network change is a diagnostic check, not a guaranteed fix for a beta or service-side problem. See Turn on and activate Siri on iPhone.

8. Recheck voice activation and set it up again
If Siri does not respond to your voice, check that “Siri” or “Hey Siri” is enabled in Siri settings. If it is already on, Apple recommends turning voice activation off and back on, then repeating the spoken setup prompts so the iPhone can recognize your voice again.

On an iPhone with Face ID, press and hold the side button to activate Siri. If Type to Siri is available, try that as well. If button or typed activation works while the wake phrase does not, the issue is more likely voice activation than Camera-mode eligibility. Apple describes activation options in Turn on and activate Siri on iPhone.

10. Check spoken responses and install available updates
If Siri appears to respond but you cannot hear it, open Siri settings and set Siri Responses to Prefer Spoken Responses. Also install any available iOS update: Apple recommends updating software when Siri setup or use is problematic. An inaudible answer is different from the Camera feature failing to open.
11. Restart, then check VPN settings only if Siri controls are missing
Restart the iPhone and check whether the Siri settings are available afterward. Apple notes that some VPN profiles may prevent Siri settings from appearing. If you use a work- or school-managed VPN, do not remove its profile without guidance from the administrator; treat this as a targeted check when the controls are missing, not a routine fix.
Identify where the failure happens
- Siri mode is absent: check model eligibility, iOS version, language, and region first.
- Camera Control does not open it: check the control’s configured click behavior, or use the Camera app’s Siri entry if available.
- Siri does not hear or answer: check Siri activation, internet connectivity, and another activation method.
- The answer is silent: inspect Siri Responses and select Prefer Spoken Responses.
Use Voice Control as an accessibility alternative
Apple’s built-in Voice Control can perform spoken commands and gestures while you troubleshoot interaction with iPhone controls. Commands vary by app and language. Voice Control is an alternative way to operate the device; it does not enable Siri AI or Camera Siri mode on an unsupported iPhone. See Apple’s Use Voice Control to interact with iPhone guide.
