Singular Photonics announced Litavis on September 10, 2026, describing it as a CMOS single-photon avalanche diode (SPAD) image sensor that processes photon events in-pixel and on-chip. The company says Litavis can produce continuous 256 × 256 photon-counting images while generating time-stamped events on a separate 64 × 64 macropixel grid, with picosecond-resolution timing. These are company-published specifications; the announcement does not include independent comparative test results, pricing, or a confirmed order route.
What Litavis is—and what “first” means
Litavis is a specialist imaging sensor for applications that need to detect individual photons and extract timing or statistical information from them. Singular Photonics describes it as a CMOS SPAD sensor with digital photon processing integrated into each pixel and on the chip. Its launch announcement calls it the “world’s first” SPAD sensor with in-pixel processing; that is the company’s characterization, not an independently established industry-wide distinction.
The architectural point is that some event processing takes place close to the detector rather than requiring all photon-event data to be sent off-chip for external computation. Singular Photonics says this can reduce raw-data transfer and support lower latency, power use, and system complexity. The sources do not provide comparative measurements for those benefits, so they should be treated as design claims rather than quantified performance results.

Litavis specifications and operating modes
The figures below come from Singular Photonics’ September 10, 2026 launch announcement and product materials. They describe different outputs: the full imaging array counts photons, while timing events are reported at lower spatial resolution.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
| Capability | Company-published description |
|---|---|
| Sensor type | CMOS SPAD image sensor with digital photon processing in-pixel and on-chip |
| Photon-counting image | Continuous 256 × 256-pixel imaging, including in low-light conditions |
| Time-stamped events | Generated at a lower rate on a 64 × 64 macropixel grid |
| Timing | Picosecond-resolution, as described by Singular Photonics; a more specific numerical timing value is not stated in the cited launch materials |
| Sensor package depiction | The product page depicts a 3.5 mm × 3.5 mm BSI 3D-stacked SPAD sensor |
The two grids should not be mistaken for one shared resolution: the 256 × 256 figure applies to photon-counting imaging, while the 64 × 64 grid applies to time-stamped photon events. The company says the timestamp stream is generated at a lower rate, but does not give a rate in the cited announcement. The package depiction also does not establish unlisted electrical, optical, frame-rate, yield, or integration specifications.
Processing and configurable modes
Singular Photonics lists multi-event timing, in-pixel histogramming, programmable time gating, and simultaneous intensity, timing, and histogramming modes. The configurable options it identifies include:

Quick wins for a faster PC:
Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →Why in-pixel photon processing matters
A SPAD detects individual photons and can provide information about when they arrive, not only how much light reaches a pixel over an exposure. Timing and event statistics can therefore be useful for measurements where arrival time or the distribution of photon events matters. Putting processing at the sensor array can reduce the volume of raw event data that must move to a separate processor, according to the company’s description of Litavis’ design.

That potential is not the same as proof of a particular system-level advantage. Singular Photonics has not published, in the cited launch materials, a like-for-like comparison showing Litavis’ latency, power consumption, data-transfer reduction, or system cost against another sensor or external-processing setup. Engineers evaluating it should request the relevant measurements for their intended mode and system configuration.
Applications the company identifies
Singular Photonics names machine vision, robotics, physical AI, depth sensing, spectroscopy, scientific imaging, medical imaging, quantum technologies, and industrial automation as application areas. It also connects Litavis’ temporal-statistics capabilities with fluorescence lifetime imaging, dynamic light scattering, and quantum sensing.

These are suggested application areas, not evidence that Litavis has been deployed or validated in every one. Suitability will depend on details such as the required photon-counting resolution, event rate, timing behavior, optical setup, and data interface; the cited materials do not establish those system-level requirements.
Launch context and availability
Singular Photonics announced Litavis on September 10, 2026, and said it planned to demonstrate the sensor at SPIE Sensors + Imaging in Edinburgh and present it at VISION in Stuttgart. Those were launch-period plans and do not confirm that demonstrations took place or establish current availability.

The company’s product page lists Litavis and links to a datasheet, but the reviewed materials do not provide a price, order button, lead time, or explicit Litavis-specific distributor. The company also said it had received “significant pre-order volumes” from companies and institutions worldwide, without naming customers or disclosing order counts or value. That statement does not establish confirmed deliveries or commercial deployment.
Singular Photonics announced in June 2025 that AMS Technologies would distribute and support its SPAD sensors across European markets. This is a historical channel relationship, not confirmation that AMS currently supplies Litavis. Prospective buyers should verify availability and support directly with both companies.
What engineers should verify before evaluating Litavis
The published figures establish the broad architecture, but selecting a sensor for a real system requires more than array dimensions. A technical evaluation should ask for:
