The best single-serve coffee maker depends on what you brew and how you use it: choose the Ninja PB051 if you want to switch between pods and your own grounds, the Keurig K-Elite or K-Supreme Gen 2 for K-Cup brewing with a larger reservoir, or the compact K-Mini Mate if counter space matters more than refill convenience. For capsule-based milk drinks, Tom’s Guide names the Nespresso Vertuo Lattissima its best single-serve pick in its 2026 guide. These are use-case matches, not results from a direct test of all five machines.
How to choose a single-serve coffee maker
Start with the coffee format you want to use, then weigh convenience against counter space and controls. “Single-serve” can mean a K-Cup brewer, a machine that accepts pods and grounds, or a capsule system with dedicated milk handling. Do not assume that pods from one system fit another: confirm the exact pod format and compatibility before buying.
- Choose for your coffee: A pods-and-grounds machine offers more flexibility; a K-Cup or capsule brewer keeps you within its system.
- Check serving sizes: A wider range helps when you alternate between smaller and larger drinks.
- Consider refill habits: A bigger reservoir is more convenient for repeated brews; compact designs may need water added for each cup.
- Match the controls to your routine: Strength, temperature, iced-drink, specialty, and frothing features matter only if you expect to use them.
- Measure your space: Compare the listed dimensions with your available counter clearance, including room to open or remove components.

Which brewer fits each routine?
For switching between pods and your own grounds: Ninja PB051
SharkNinja says the PB051 brews both pods and ground coffee, making it the clearest choice here if you want to alternate between convenience and coffee you already have. For grounds, it lists seven sizes from 6 to 24 oz; for pods, it lists 6, 8, 10, or 12 oz.

Its four listed styles are Classic, Rich, Over Ice, and Specialty. SharkNinja also lists a fold-away frother, which may suit someone who wants milk drinks without buying a separate frothing device. Check the machine’s care instructions and the parts that need rinsing or cleaning before deciding whether that added functionality suits your routine. SharkNinja lists a permanent filter add-on, model XFPB050; verify compatibility with the exact PB051 version and current availability before purchasing it.
For a large reservoir and five cup sizes: Keurig K-Elite
Keurig lists five brew sizes—4, 6, 8, 10, and 12 oz—and a 75 oz reservoir for the K-Elite. That combination may be convenient if you make multiple K-Cup drinks before refilling. The K-Supreme Gen 2 is also a K-Cup brewer. Keurig lists four cup sizes, a removable 72 oz reservoir, three strength settings—Balanced, Strong, and Extra Strong—and three temperature settings—Warm, Hot, and Max Hot. The company also describes its MultiStream Technology. Those features make it a better fit than a basic one-button routine if you want to adjust the brew, but they do not establish that its coffee tastes better than another model’s.

For a compact footprint: Keurig K-Mini Mate
TechRadar’s 2026 review lists dimensions of 9.1 x 3.9 x 10.9 inches and a 6–12 oz brew range. The reviewer reports that its 12 oz reservoir needs fresh water after every brew. That trade-off may be worthwhile when counter space is scarce, but it makes the machine less convenient for back-to-back cups.
TechRadar also reports about 1 minute 40 seconds to brew a 12 oz cup, including heating, and notes splashback or drippage. Those are observations from that review, not measurements made in a comparative test here.

For Vertuo capsules and milk drinks: Nespresso Vertuo Lattissima
Tom’s Guide’s 2026 buying guide names the Vertuo Lattissima its “Best single-serve coffee maker.” The guide describes a six-size Vertuo system and a separate milk dispenser that can make milk-only drinks and two lengths of milk add-ins. It also reports that the used dispenser can be stored in a refrigerator. This is Tom’s Guide’s editorial pick, not a universal winner or a direct comparison with the K-Cup and Ninja models above.

Should you buy a pod brewer or a machine that uses grounds?
Choose based on what you want to make and what you are willing to handle. The Ninja PB051 is the listed option that supports both pods and grounds. The Keurig models here are described as K-Cup brewers, while the Vertuo Lattissima uses the Vertuo capsule system. These formats are not interchangeable by default, so verify compatibility rather than relying on the broad label “single-serve.”
- Pick pods or capsules if portioned, format-specific brewing suits you and you are comfortable buying compatible consumables.
- Pick grounds if you want to use your own coffee; confirm the machine’s supported serving sizes and what filter or basket it requires.
- Pick both formats if your routine varies and the convenience of switching is worth a more feature-rich machine.
Which single-serve coffee maker has the largest reservoir?
Among the models with capacities stated in the sources cited here, the Keurig K-Elite has the largest listed reservoir at 75 oz. The K-Supreme Gen 2 is listed at 72 oz. The K-Mini Mate’s 12 oz reservoir is described by TechRadar as requiring a refill after each brew. Capacity alone does not establish how often you will refill: that depends on the drink sizes and number of cups you make.
Quick Recap
What to verify before buying
- Confirm the exact model and compatible pod or capsule format; do not assume systems are interchangeable.
- Check current product availability, dimensions, and included accessories on the seller’s listing. The listed specifications above do not establish live stock or current price.
- If considering an accessory, confirm compatibility with your specific brewer; SharkNinja lists XFPB050 as a permanent filter add-on for the PB051, but availability and exact fit should be checked.
- For a frother or milk dispenser, review the cleaning steps and storage requirements as well as the drink options.
