DayOne Data Centers said on 14 October 2026 that its billings had exceeded 1GW. The figure represents income-generating IT power capacity committed under legally binding customer contracts—not the electricity its facilities are physically consuming.
What the 1GW milestone means
DayOne defines billings as the total IT power capacity committed by customers that is income-generating under legally binding contracts still in effect. In practical terms, customers have signed agreements that support revenue for more than 1GW of contracted data-centre IT load.
That distinction matters because a data centre’s IT load is not the same as its utility-meter demand. Cooling, power conversion, backup systems and other building services consume additional electricity, while contracted capacity may be delivered in phases rather than operated all at once. No independent audited reconciliation between DayOne’s billing figure and physical operating capacity has been provided, so the measures should not be treated as interchangeable.
DayOne reported 121MW of billings at the end of 2024. Exceeding 1GW in October 2026 therefore represents growth of more than eight times in less than two years, based on the company’s definition and the comparison independently reported by Reuters.

Billings, bookings, reservations and resources
DayOne uses several capacity measures for different stages of customer commitment and development. They should not be added together.
| Measure | DayOne’s definition | Latest figure | How to read it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Billings | IT power capacity under legally binding contracts that is income-generating | More than 1GW, announced 14 October 2026 | Contracted capacity already generating income under the company’s definition |
| Bookings | Total IT power capacity committed by customers under legally binding contracts | Approximately 2.3GW on 20 September 2026 | A broader contracted pipeline than current billings |
| Reservations | Capacity reservations not included in bookings, billings or backlog | 1.1GW on 20 September 2026 | Potential future demand; customers are not guaranteed to exercise it or produce revenue |
| Resources | Capacity in service, under construction and on secured powered land | 4.6GW on 20 September 2026 | The development platform, not contracted revenue |
Bookings rose from 1.25GW at the end of 2025 to approximately 2.3GW by 20 September 2026. Resources increased from 2GW to 4.6GW over the same period. The reservations figure is separate: it signals customer interest but carries no assurance that the capacity will be taken up.
How DayOne’s capacity pipeline expanded
- End of 2024: Billings stood at 121MW.
- End of 2025: Bookings were 1.25GW and resources were 2GW.
- 20 September 2026: Bookings reached approximately 2.3GW, reservations were 1.1GW and resources reached 4.6GW.
- 14 October 2026: DayOne announced that billings had passed 1GW.
The sequence shows why the measures should be followed separately. Bookings and reservations indicate demand secured or signalled by customers, while resources include land and construction capacity that may not yet have a customer contract.

Why DayOne is raising billions for Malaysia
The milestone followed an upsizing of DayOne’s senior secured, multi-currency syndicated term financing for Malaysia to approximately US$7.2 billion. DayOne said a seven-lender consortium arranged the facility, building on about US$3.5 billion of syndicated financing secured in May 2025. Reuters described the incremental financing as RM15 billion, approximately US$3.68 billion, with the total supporting hyperscale data-centre expansion in Johor.
This is financing capacity for the Malaysian platform, not revenue, profit or cash already earned. A senior secured facility is backed by specified assets or rights and must be repaid under its terms. Its size indicates the scale of capital DayOne has arranged for development, but it does not establish how quickly every planned megawatt will be built or occupied.

The multi-market footprint lets the company offer capacity where cloud and AI customers need it, but it also exposes projects to different planning rules, grid conditions, construction schedules and financing requirements. A comparison with another developer is meaningful only when both companies use matching definitions for contracted capacity, construction status and land secured.

DayOne’s first Singapore data centre is a planned 20MW facility in western Singapore. It broke ground in July 2025 and is expected to become operational in the first quarter of 2027.
On 18 August 2026, DBS announced a four-year SGD530 million green loan for the project, provided by DBS, OCBC and UOB. The financing supports a facility designed to test on-site solid-oxide fuel-cell power using hydrogen-related energy solutions. The building is also planned to use vertical building-integrated photovoltaics and hybrid air-and-liquid cooling.

These systems target the energy and space constraints of Singapore’s dense data-centre market. The project’s 20MW rating is a facility-specific design figure; it should not be substituted for DayOne’s group-wide billings or bookings.

DayOne CEO Jamie Khoo said customer and banking support had enabled the company to unlock capacity for the next generation of AI and cloud infrastructure, with an emphasis on bringing facilities online quickly and at scale. DBS Group’s Han Kwee Juan said accelerating digital-infrastructure demand is increasing energy consumption and the need for more efficient facilities.

Those comments point to the central commercial tension: AI workloads require large, reliable power blocks, while data-centre operators must secure land, grid access, financing and efficient cooling before capacity can be delivered. DayOne’s figures show a rapidly expanding contracted pipeline, but they do not by themselves prove that all reserved or resource capacity will become operating facilities.
Quick Recap
How to interpret the announcement
- It is a contract milestone: More than 1GW is income-generating IT power capacity under DayOne’s stated billing definition.
- It is not a consumption report: The number does not state how much electricity DayOne’s sites used during a period.
- It is not total operating capacity: Bookings, reservations and resources include stages that may precede live service or revenue.
- It is not profit: The US$7.2 billion Malaysia financing figure describes borrowing capacity, not earnings.
- Execution remains decisive: Construction, grid connection, customer take-up and commissioning determine when planned capacity becomes available.
