The Silver Cross Wave’s appeal is its ability to serve as a newborn pram and adapt for a growing family. In a GoodtoKnow review updated 16 January 2024, parent tester Johanna Hewitson praised its push and kerb handling, but also found it heavy, expensive and difficult to store. Those impressions make the Wave most compelling for families who will use its flexibility—not necessarily for anyone seeking a light, compact stroller.
What the Wave review found
Hewitson tested the Wave with her three-month-old daughter. She liked how it felt to push and how readily it got up kerbs. The five-position handlebar helped her find a comfortable steering position. The review also highlighted the elevated seating position and the stroller’s adaptable design. These are one parent tester’s impressions, not a controlled comparison or a guarantee of how the stroller will handle for every caregiver.
The same review named a UK RRP of £1,095 and a weight of 17.7 kg. Both are historical figures reported in 2024, not a current price quote or a universal weight for every Wave configuration. The original Wave is designed to convert between single and double use. That can be useful if you expect to carry a newborn and an older child, or want a system that can change as your family’s needs change. The review’s strongest case for the stroller is this adaptability, alongside the tester’s positive report on steering and kerbs.

Think about the configurations you will actually use. A stroller that can carry two children is not automatically the best value if you only need one seat, or if the parts required for your planned setup are sold separately. The original Wave and Wave 3 do not have identical included equipment: a retailer comparison published in June 2024 says Wave 3 includes a tandem seat that earlier Wave models did not. It describes 12 configurations out of the box for Wave 3, with additional configurations possible using accessories. Treat those configuration counts as retailer-reported and specific to Wave 3. What may make it difficult to live with
Weight and carrying
The GoodtoKnow review characterizes the Wave as heavy. That matters most if you regularly carry a stroller up stairs, load it into a car, or need to lift it while holding other items. The review’s 17.7 kg figure is a UK-specific 2024 figure; check the weight for the precise generation and configuration you are considering rather than assuming it applies to Wave 3.

Storage
The tester found the stroller awkward for homes with limited storage or stairs, and noted that the carrycot can be bulky to keep once a child has outgrown it. Measure the storage space you can dedicate to the stroller and any parts you plan to keep. A system’s ability to convert is less useful if its frame and outgrown components are hard to store in your home.

The review’s £1,095 RRP is not a current quote. Calculate the cost of the particular setup you need, including any second seat, bassinet, car-seat adapters or other accessories. Wave versus Wave 3: check the generation first
“Wave” can refer to different generations, and their included equipment and instructions are not interchangeable. The original Wave retailer page describes single-to-double use and gives 55 lb limits for its main and tandem seats, but that is a historical, product-specific listing. It also marks its listed colors as no longer available; that status applies to that retailer’s page and does not establish that the stroller is unavailable elsewhere. Wave 3 documentation for the US and Canada gives different configuration-specific details: its bassinet is for use from birth up to 20 lb (9 kg), while its stroller and tandem seats are for children from 6 months up to 55 lb (25 kg) each. These are Wave 3 limits, not specifications for the original Wave. The same manual says the Wave 3 stroller complies with ASTM F833-21, and its bassinet with ASTM F2194-22 and ASTM F2050-19. Silver Cross Canada’s support index lists Wave 3 under model codes SX2341CM and SX2341LC and links a Wave 3 manual. Use the manual for the exact model in hand; a Wave 3 manual should not be treated as the original Wave’s instructions. Silver Cross Canada support index

How to decide whether it is worth it
- Choose it for adaptability if: you have a realistic need for single-to-double use and value keeping one system as your family grows.
- Look elsewhere if: you prioritize a light lift, small storage footprint, or a straightforward single-seat stroller over conversion options.
- Before buying: identify the generation and exact included parts, check the maximum load for your intended setup, confirm car-seat and adapter compatibility with the manufacturer’s list, and add the cost of accessories you need.
- Test the practical fit: if possible, try steering and lifting the assembled stroller, and check whether its frame and carrycot can be stored at home and transported in your vehicle.
For a used or discounted listing, verify its generation, condition and included components rather than relying on the title or product photo. GoodtoKnow’s review links to an Amazon shopping search, but that does not establish current stock, listing accuracy or that a listing is for the original Wave rather than Wave 3.

Safety and compatibility checks
The North American Wave 3 manual says to check that the seat, stroller body and car-seat attachments are engaged; apply the parking brake when stopped and when placing or removing a child; use the harness; and never leave a child unattended. It also says the stroller is not suitable for running or skating. These instructions are for Wave 3; follow the manual for your own generation and configuration. The manual says the system was designed and tested for Wave 3 components and a range of car seats, and directs users to Silver Cross for the compatible car-seat list.
