When a Silent Hill: Townfall puzzle stalls, look for connections rather than guessing: identify what the obstacle needs, search nearby rooms, compare documents and environmental details, then use the CRTV to find and inspect relevant signals. If a correct-looking code fails, check that you have collected its associated clue or key item before trying again.
Why clues are connected
Townfall treats puzzles as part of its story and setting, not as detached tests. In a PlayStation developer post, Writer and Director Jon McKellan said puzzles were designed alongside the story and grounded in the town and its inhabitants. That framing is useful when you get stuck: a name, date, object, or signal may matter because of its relationship to something else in the world, not because it is a standalone answer. How to get unstuck without spoilers
- Identify what the obstacle is asking for. Is it a code, date, sequence, object placement, signal, or mechanism? That gives you a useful search target.
- Search the immediate area and adjoining spaces. Look for documents, signs, objects, and environmental details that could match the type of answer. Clues may be nearby, but do not assume every answer is in the same room.
- Read documents for actionable details. Note names, numbers, dates, instructions, and relationships. A PC Gamer review describes codes assembled from nearby letters and documents, while later puzzles can require more inference. PC Gamer’s review
- Compare clues instead of treating each one in isolation. A document may identify a person or date, while a nearby environmental detail or CRTV signal helps explain how that information applies.
- Retry only after checking what you have collected. If a code or control does not work, verify that you picked up the related note, clue, or key item. How to use the CRTV for clues
The CRTV is more than a way to scout for threats: Konami’s developer interview describes it as a receiver for signals from around town that can also help guide Simon through challenges. Raise and tune it when entering a new area or approaching a puzzle, and pay attention to signals that seem connected to your surroundings. PlayStation’s developer interview

When a signal seems useful, follow the on-screen tuning prompt. VICE reports that aligning the colored shapes with their corresponding outlines and lines lets you store the signal for a hint. Some stored signals show a brief visual vignette; inspect it carefully for a destination, poster, or other environmental detail that might connect to the puzzle. VICE’s post-launch CRTV guide

What to do when the answer still will not work
- Recheck the obstacle’s requirement: a code, date, order, item, or signal may call for a different kind of clue than you first assumed.
- Look for a missing prerequisite note or key item before entering a code again.
- Review stored signal imagery for a detail that points to a location or object you have not examined.
- Revisit the documents and nearby details together; later puzzles may ask you to infer a connection rather than copy a number directly.
