Start with Silent Hill (1999) for Keiichiro Toyama’s original psychological-horror direction, or Gravity Rush (2012) if you would rather play an action adventure built around changing gravity. Continue with the Siren games for another horror branch, Gravity Rush 2 (2017) for the next gravity-focused adventure, and Slitterhead (2024) for Toyama’s newer Bokeh Game Studio era. The games are not one continuous story, so you can choose an entry point by genre and mood rather than follow a mandatory order.
Which Keiichiro Toyama game should you play first?
Your best starting point depends on what you want to learn about Toyama’s work:
- Choose Silent Hill (1999) for the clearest starting point in his horror career and the game most directly connected to the phrase “Silent Hill creator.”
- Choose Gravity Rush (2012) for a dramatic change of tone: movement and combat shaped by manipulating gravity in an open-world setting.
- Choose the Siren line if you want to continue into Toyama’s later horror work after Silent Hill.
- Choose Gravity Rush 2 (2017) only after the first Gravity Rush if you want to follow that series in order.
- Choose Slitterhead (2024) if you are most interested in Toyama’s current creative chapter and a newer horror-inflected action game.
These are starting-point recommendations, not a quality ranking. Platform access, editions and store availability vary by country and can change, so verify the specific version you can use before buying.
Keiichiro Toyama’s gameography at a glance
Bokeh Game Studio’s official profile identifies Keiichiro Toyama as the creator of Silent Hill, the Siren series and Gravity Rush. Its selected-works list gives the following release-year labels. The studio calls this a selected list, so it should not be treated as a complete credit roll for every project he has worked on.

Why Silent Hill is the natural horror starting point
Silent Hill is dated to 1999 in Bokeh Game Studio’s selected-works list. It is the clearest place to begin if your question is specifically about what the creator of Silent Hill made, because it shows the early horror direction that established Toyama’s name.
In a PlayStation Blog interview published on March 14, 2012, Toyama described joining Konami as a graphic artist and later becoming the director of Silent Hill. That career path matters when deciding how to read the game: it is not a later experiment by a director already known for action systems, but an early work made while he was establishing his creative identity.
The useful expectation is “psychological horror,” not a promise that every later Toyama game follows the same formula. The selected works place Silent Hill at the beginning of a career that repeatedly returns to horror but also moves into action adventure. Play it first when you want the historical point of origin, then compare the later Siren games to see how the horror side of that career developed.

What to check before choosing a copy
- Confirm the platform and edition available in your country.
- Check whether the release is an original version, a regional edition or another authorized format.
- Do not assume that a title listed in a historical gameography is currently sold digitally or physically in your region.
The official selected-works list and the 2012 interview establish the game’s year and Toyama’s role; they do not constitute a current storefront audit.
The Siren games: where to go after Silent Hill
Bokeh’s selected works date Siren to 2004, Siren 2 to 2006 and Siren: Blood Curse to 2008. Together they are the next stop for readers who want more of Toyama’s horror work rather than an immediate genre change.
The list gives the series’ place in his career, but it does not establish a universal modern platform or purchase route for every entry. Treat access as a separate question for each game. A title may have different releases by region, and an older console edition may not be interchangeable with another version.
A sensible order within the horror branch
- Begin with Silent Hill if you want the earliest point in this guide’s timeline.
- Move to Siren (2004) as the next selected horror work.
- Continue to Siren 2 (2006).
- Finish the listed sequence with Siren: Blood Curse (2008), after confirming that its regional release is accessible to you.
This is a career-oriented route, not a claim that every game forms one uninterrupted narrative. The evidence supports their place in Toyama’s selected works and his association with the series; it does not support treating the list as a complete chronology of every contribution or as a guaranteed story order.

Why Siren: Blood Curse has a special career context
Toyama told PlayStation Blog that after leaving Konami for Sony, he worked on Siren: Blood Curse. That first-person account connects the title to the transition between the two companies and helps explain why the Siren games sit between his Silent Hill beginning and the later change to Gravity Rush.
How Toyama moved from horror to Gravity Rush
Gravity Rush (2012) is the right first game when you want to understand Toyama’s range rather than remain in horror. The PlayStation Blog interview describes gravity-based gameplay and an open-world setting, while Bokeh’s selected works supplies the 2012 date.
The project’s origin is unusually revealing. Toyama said it began on PlayStation 3, then the team changed direction after finding that PlayStation Vita suited the game. The hardware change was not just a release detail: it shows how the project’s unusual movement concept and the target system developed together.
Toyama also recalled that, before joining Konami, he had an early image of “a girl floating in the air.” He emphasized that he had not yet devised a gravity-manipulation mechanic. The final game’s central idea therefore grew from a visual concept into a playable system rather than starting as a fully specified ruleset.
“Before I joined Konami, I already had this idea, but it wasn’t too specific. I didn’t have any idea about manipulating gravity back then. But I had an idea of a girl floating in the air.”
Keiichiro Toyama, PlayStation Blog interview, March 14, 2012
What the game demonstrates
- Genre range: Toyama could move from horror direction into action adventure without presenting the later game as a continuation of Silent Hill.
- System-led design: Gravity manipulation is the defining play idea discussed in the interview.
- World structure: The interview identifies an open-world setting, giving the game a different rhythm from a tightly framed horror experience.
- Creative motivation: Toyama said he wanted to make something closer to the ideas he had while studying art.
“So I thought I just wanna make something that I wanted to make when I was a student studying art. So that’s how I changed direction.”

Choose Gravity Rush first if the idea of movement built around changing gravity sounds more appealing than beginning with horror. Choose it second if you want to see the clearest contrast with his earlier work.
When to play Gravity Rush 2
Bokeh’s selected-works list dates Gravity Rush 2 to 2017. It is the next main entry in the gravity-action line, so the practical recommendation is simple: play Gravity Rush before it when possible.
The available evidence establishes its place as a follow-up in the same broad line, but it does not provide a current platform list, edition comparison or regional availability audit. Verify those details for your country rather than assuming that access to one title guarantees access to the other.
Two useful routes
- Series route: Gravity Rush first, then Gravity Rush 2. This is the clearest way to experience the progression of the gravity-focused concept.
- Career sampler: play Silent Hill, then jump directly to Gravity Rush. Add Gravity Rush 2 only if the first game’s movement and open-world approach work for you.
There is no requirement to play the horror games before either Gravity Rush title. Toyama’s catalog is best understood as several creative branches, not one chronological campaign.

Slitterhead marks a later chapter in Toyama’s career. Bokeh Game Studio identifies Toyama as its founder and creative director, and the studio states that Slitterhead became available worldwide on November 8, 2024.
For a reader choosing a first game, Slitterhead is most useful as a look at where Toyama’s horror and action interests led after the earlier Konami and Sony periods. It is described here as horror-inflected action, so it belongs neither in a simple “more of Silent Hill” category nor in the same gravity-action branch as Gravity Rush.

Who should start with it?
- Start with Slitterhead if the newest available work matters more to you than seeing the historical origin.
- Start with Silent Hill first if you want the context for Toyama’s early horror direction.
- Start with Gravity Rush first if you want to understand his most pronounced move away from horror before returning to a horror-related action project.
The worldwide date supplied by Bokeh is a release statement, not a guarantee that every platform, store or edition remains available in every country. Check the local listing and the exact version before committing to a purchase.
Three ways to plan your play order
1. The historical horror route
- Silent Hill (1999)
- Siren (2004)
- Siren 2 (2006)
- Siren: Blood Curse (2008)
- Slitterhead (2024)
This route follows the horror-oriented titles in the selected-work dates, then reaches Toyama’s Bokeh-era return to horror-inflected action. It is the strongest choice for readers interested in how his horror work spans different career periods.

2. The genre-change route
- Silent Hill (1999)
- Gravity Rush (2012)
- Gravity Rush 2 (2017)
- Slitterhead (2024)
This route makes the contrast explicit: early horror, gravity-based open-world action, a second gravity game and then a newer horror-action project.
3. The action-first route
- Gravity Rush (2012)
- Gravity Rush 2 (2017)
- Slitterhead (2024)
- Return to Silent Hill and the Siren titles if you want the horror context.
Use this route if psychological horror is not your preferred opening mood. It lets you begin with the design idea Toyama described as a girl floating in the air, then decide whether to explore the darker side of his catalog.
How to choose when availability is uncertain
Older games often have different regional releases and changing storefront access. Because the historical sources do not provide a live availability audit, use this checklist for each title:
- Identify the exact game: distinguish Siren, Siren 2 and Siren: Blood Curse; do not treat the series name as one interchangeable product.
- Check your country: a listing in one region does not establish access in another.
- Check the platform and edition: confirm that the hardware or storefront version you own is supported.
- Check the release date context: the years in Bokeh’s list are historical release-year labels, not statements that a current edition launched that year.
- Confirm the seller or store: verify that the listing is an authorized copy and that the language, region and compatibility match your needs.
Do not infer current stock, digital delisting status or backward compatibility from Toyama’s gameography alone. Those details can change independently of the games’ historical importance.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat Toyama’s career path says about the games
Toyama’s own account gives the catalog a useful shape. He entered Konami as a graphic artist, became director of Silent Hill, moved to Sony and worked on Siren: Blood Curse, then developed the concept that became Gravity Rush. His explanation of wanting to make ideas closer to his art-school interests describes a change in creative direction rather than a rejection of the earlier horror work.

- Powerful Pass-Through Charging: Supports up to 85W pass-through charging so you can power up your laptop while you use the hub. Note: Pass-through charging requires a charger (not included). Note: To achieve full power for iPad, we recommend using a 45W wall charger.
- Transfer Files in Seconds: Move files to and from your laptop at speeds of up to 5 Gbps via the USB-C and USB-A data ports. Note: The USB C 5Gbps Data port does not support video output.

That sequence helps answer why a single “best Toyama game” is a misleading question. The titles serve different purposes:
| If you want… | Start with… | Reason |
|---|---|---|
| The game most directly tied to the “Silent Hill creator” description | Silent Hill | It is his 1999 horror starting point and the title he directed during his Konami period. |
| More horror in the selected works | Siren | It begins the later horror branch dated 2004, followed by two listed entries. |
| A non-horror introduction | Gravity Rush | Its gravity-based movement and open-world setting show the clearest tonal and mechanical shift. |
| The complete gravity-focused line | Gravity Rush, then Gravity Rush 2 | The second game follows the first in the selected-works chronology. |
| Toyama’s newer studio period | Slitterhead | It is the first title associated here with Bokeh Game Studio and was announced as worldwide available on November 8, 2024. |
Common mistakes when researching Toyama’s games
Assuming the selected list is complete
Bokeh labels its page a selected-works list. It is reliable for the titles and years it names, but it should not be presented as every credit in Toyama’s career.
Treating every game as horror
Silent Hill, the Siren titles and Slitterhead connect to horror, while Gravity Rush represents a distinct action-adventure direction. A useful guide must preserve that difference instead of flattening the catalog into one genre.
Assuming one required story order
The games are separate creative branches in this overview. A chronological route can explain the career, but it is not a mandatory narrative sequence.
Confusing historical release years with current access
1999, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2017 and 2024 identify the dates supplied by the official selected works and studio announcement. They do not prove that a particular edition is sold or playable on your current hardware today.
Calling Gravity Rush a Vita-original concept
Toyama said the project began on PlayStation 3 and moved after the team found that Vita suited it. The Vita association describes the eventual platform direction, not the project’s starting point.
A compact decision guide
Use the following sequence when you are still undecided:

Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstall- Pick your mood. Choose horror for Silent Hill, Siren or Slitterhead; choose action adventure for Gravity Rush.
- Pick your historical angle. Choose Silent Hill for the Konami starting point, a Siren title for the Sony-era horror branch, or Slitterhead for Bokeh’s newer chapter.
- Choose a series commitment. If you select Gravity Rush, reserve Gravity Rush 2 as the follow-up. If you select the horror route, decide whether regional access makes the listed Siren sequence practical.
- Verify access last. Check country, platform, edition and current listing before paying.
This approach keeps the recommendation honest: it matches the game to your reason for playing instead of pretending that one title represents every phase of Toyama’s work.
Bottom line
For the most direct answer to “What did the creator of Silent Hill make?”, begin with Silent Hill (1999), then explore Siren, Siren 2 and Siren: Blood Curse. For the best contrast, begin with Gravity Rush (2012), continue to Gravity Rush 2, and then try Slitterhead (2024) to see the Bokeh-era return to horror-inflected action. Choose by genre and availability, not by an assumed single storyline.
