This guide covers the 2024 PC release of the SILENT HILL 2 remake, not every game in the Silent Hill series. Steam lists full controller support and says the developers recommend a controller. It also publishes minimum and recommended PC targets, while the official pages do not provide a complete, current inventory of graphics or accessibility options. Use the requirements as targets, then verify the settings available in your own build.
What “Silent Hill on PC” means here
The concrete subject is SILENT HILL 2, the full remake of the original game. KONAMI lists PC and Steam among its platforms, and Steam gives the PC release date as October 7, 2024. The controller compatibility, hardware requirements, language information and Steam Deck label described below come from the Steam store listing for that release. Difficulty behavior comes from KONAMI support.
Those facts should not be generalized to SILENT HILL releases from other years. Menus, performance targets, controller behavior and accessibility features can differ between games and between later PC builds.

Does SILENT HILL 2 work with a controller on PC?
Yes. Steam marks the game as having full controller support. The listing names Xbox Controllers, DualShock Controllers over USB only, and DualSense Controllers. It also includes the developers’ recommendation: “The developers recommend playing this game with a controller.” A controller is optional rather than a stated requirement, but it is the input method the listing specifically encourages.

Before launching the game
- Connect or pair the controller with Windows using the connection method appropriate to that controller.
- Open Steam and confirm that the client detects the controller before starting SILENT HILL 2.
- For a DualShock, use a USB connection because Steam’s listing limits that controller family to USB.
- Start the game and test movement, camera control, menu navigation and a non-critical action before committing to a long session.
- If input is missing or duplicated, close other remapping, virtual-controller or overlay tools temporarily and test again. The game’s full-support label does not guarantee identical behavior from every third-party adapter or software layer.
Steam’s listing does not establish that one controller model is superior, that a particular wireless mode works, or that any model has been tested for this article. Choose a PC game controller that your computer and Steam already recognize rather than treating a specific model as required.
Can your PC run SILENT HILL 2?
Steam describes the minimum configuration as a target for Low/Medium quality at 1080p with a stable 30 frames per second. The recommended configuration is described as suitable for Medium quality at 60 FPS or High quality at 30 FPS in Full HD, with 4K possible using DLSS or similar technology. These are storefront targets, not independent benchmark results or guarantees for every computer with the same parts.

How to interpret the two tiers
The minimum row is not a promise of 60 FPS, High settings or 4K. It is a defined 1080p, 30-FPS target at Low/Medium quality. If your computer falls near that tier, begin with the game’s lower-quality profile and evaluate whether frame delivery is stable in the areas where you play.

The recommended row gives you more headroom, but it still presents two different choices: Medium at 60 FPS or High at 30 FPS in Full HD. Those targets prioritize different things. A player who values camera responsiveness may prefer the 60-FPS target; another may accept 30 FPS for the High-quality target. The listing does not say that every system meeting the recommended parts will hold those figures in every scene.
For 4K, Steam specifically qualifies the target with DLSS or similar technology. That qualification matters: do not read the 4K note as a claim that native 4K rendering at the same quality and frame rate is guaranteed.
How to choose graphics settings without relying on an invented preset
The official material available for this release does not name the current graphics-menu options or document the visual and performance cost of each one. Consequently, there is no verified “best settings” list to copy. Use a repeatable adjustment process instead.

- Match your hardware to a tier. Compare your CPU, GPU, 16 GB memory requirement, Windows version, DirectX 12 support and available storage with the minimum and recommended tables. Treat a part that falls below the minimum as a compatibility risk rather than assuming a lower preset will solve it.
- Install on an SSD when possible. Steam recommends an SSD for both tiers. The listing gives no measured loading-time improvement, so regard this as the official drive guidance, not a promised benchmark.
- Choose a resolution and frame-rate goal. The published targets are Full HD at 30 FPS for minimum hardware, or Full HD at 60 FPS on Medium or 30 FPS on High for recommended hardware. Set one goal before changing individual options.
- Change one visible option at a time. The current build may expose several quality controls, but the official listing does not document their names or effects. Record the original value, change one setting, then observe image quality and frame pacing in the same type of scene.
- Check the result on your own machine. The storefront targets are not a substitute for a test on your CPU, GPU, driver version, monitor and background workload. If performance is inconsistent, reduce quality or resolution before assuming the controller or operating system is at fault.
- Recheck after updates. A patch can change available options or performance. Keep your notes tied to the build you are using rather than treating a settings list from another version as permanent.
Avoid promising that a particular shadow, ray-tracing, texture or upscaling setting will produce a fixed number of frames. None of those individual costs is established by the official information cited here.

The official pages identified for this PC release do not provide a complete, current inventory of accessibility options. That means it would be inaccurate to promise specific color filters, text-size controls, remapping systems, visual effects toggles, audio aids or accessibility difficulty modes without checking the current build directly.
A practical preflight check
- Open the game’s settings before beginning a playthrough and inspect every control, display, audio, subtitle and gameplay category the build presents.
- Look for the options you personally need, such as readable subtitle presentation, independent volume controls, input reassignment, camera or visual-effect adjustments and any timing assistance. Record what is actually present instead of assuming a feature exists because another game has it.
- Test the chosen controls in a safe area or early interaction. Confirm that movement, camera operation, menu navigation and essential actions can be performed comfortably.
- Check subtitles during spoken dialogue and verify that the selected language, size and contrast work from your normal viewing distance if those controls are offered.
- If an option is absent, use the operating system, monitor, audio device or controller features that are compatible with your setup, while recognizing that those workarounds are outside the game’s official feature list.
Because the available official documentation is incomplete on this point, the responsible approach is to verify the live PC build before purchase or before starting a long session. Do not infer that an unlisted accessibility feature is included.

Combat difficulty and puzzle difficulty are different choices
KONAMI’s support information separates the two difficulty systems. Combat difficulty can be changed later through the Settings menu. Puzzle difficulty affects game content and cannot be changed during a playthrough.
- Combat difficulty: adjustable later in Settings, according to KONAMI.
- Puzzle difficulty: choose carefully before starting because it affects content and is locked for that playthrough.
This distinction is important for accessibility planning. If combat becomes uncomfortable, the documented option is to revisit the combat setting. Puzzle difficulty requires a decision before the run begins, so select it with the player’s preferred problem-solving demands in mind.
Language, audio and subtitles
Steam’s language table lists 14 interface languages. It shows full audio for English and Japanese, with subtitles available across all languages in the table. Select the interface, audio and subtitle combination you want before playing, then verify the result in an actual dialogue sequence.

The table describes language availability; it does not establish that every language has full voice audio. In particular, the listing distinguishes English and Japanese full audio from subtitle support for the listed languages.
What Steam Deck status means
Steam currently labels SILENT HILL 2 as unsupported for Steam Deck compatibility. That is the store’s present compatibility status, not proof that no individual player can make the game launch or run. Compatibility labels can change, so recheck the live Steam listing before relying on handheld play.
The unsupported label also should not be confused with the Windows PC requirements. A desktop or laptop that meets the published Windows and hardware targets is a separate case from Steam Deck compatibility.
