The reliable way to dodge, parry, or use Focus in Sifu Mobile is to follow the control prompt shown by your installed version. The official iOS and Android listings confirm touch controls designed for mobile and full controller support, but they do not publish a universal touch-button map, gesture sequence, sensitivity setting, or tested-controller list. Do not copy a button layout from a console guide and assume it applies to your phone.

Open the game’s tutorial, control reminders, and settings first. Identify the displayed input for each defensive action, then practise it in Training Room lessons before trying to use it in a crowded encounter. The distinction between blocking, deflecting, dodging, avoiding, and parrying matters more than the label on a virtual button.

What Sifu Mobile officially supports

Sifu Mobile launched on iOS and Android on October 12, 2026, according to Sloclap’s October 1 announcement. Availability can vary by country or region. The Google Play listing was reported as updated on October 9, 2026, while the Apple listing lists iOS 18.0 or later; store requirements can change.

The listings do not document the position or name of a dodge, avoid, parry, block, or Focus control. They also do not state whether the layout can be remapped, whether button size or touch sensitivity can be changed, or which controller models have been tested. That absence does not prove the options are missing from your build; it means the installed game is the authoritative reference.

Find the exact input in your installed game

Because mobile layouts can change between releases and operating systems, use this procedure instead of relying on a screenshot from another platform:

  1. Launch Sifu Mobile and open the main menu.
  2. Enter the control, input, accessibility, or settings page and read every displayed combat prompt. If your version offers a tutorial or control-reminder overlay, open that as well.
  3. Locate the prompts for the defensive action your lesson describes. The game may present separate prompts for a directional avoid, a defensive hold, a deflect, and a parry follow-up.
  4. Identify the Focus prompt and the attack choices that appear after Focus is available. Do not assume that a Focus action uses the same touch target as a normal strike.
  5. Return to the Training Room or an early low-pressure encounter and test one input at a time. Watch the character animation and the opponent’s reaction so you know which action actually occurred.
  6. If the prompt is difficult to reach, rotate the phone only if your game and device support that orientation, and check whether the settings expose a layout or accessibility adjustment. If no adjustment is shown, do not assume one exists.

Use the prompt currently shown by your game when following the sections below. The concepts and timing are transferable; a named button or gesture is not.

Dodge and avoid are different defensive ideas

Players often call every quick defensive movement a “dodge,” but Sifu’s own combat teaching separates dodging from avoiding. The difference affects what you should look for on screen and what opportunity you get afterward.

Dodging creates space

A dodge is a movement away from an incoming attack. It is useful when you need distance, when an attack covers a wide area, or when staying in the opponent’s range would leave you vulnerable to the next hit. Use the directional prompt shown in your version and pay attention to where your character ends up. A successful movement can prevent damage but may leave you too far away to punish immediately.

Applying an avoid

An avoid is a timed defensive response to an attack rather than simply running away. The correct timing depends on the attack’s animation and direction. An avoid can keep you close enough to respond, but it requires reading the strike instead of reacting to the first movement you see. If you trigger it too early, the attack may still connect; too late, and you may be hit before the action completes.

Do not treat “avoid” as a guaranteed synonym for the mobile control labelled “dodge.” Read the tutorial prompt, test the result against a single opponent, and learn which attacks can be avoided and which require another defense.

How to practise movement timing

  1. Choose a training opponent whose attack is easy to recognise.
  2. Stand at a repeatable distance and let the same attack start several times.
  3. First practise moving clear of the attack without trying to counter. This teaches the animation and the space it occupies.
  4. Next practise the timed avoid, waiting for the attack’s decisive motion rather than the opponent’s initial wind-up.
  5. Once the timing is consistent, add a single counterattack and stop. Do not introduce Focus or crowd control until the basic response is reliable.

Blocking, deflecting, and parrying

Sifu’s official learning material also treats blocking and deflecting as separate concepts, and it distinguishes parries from both. These defenses are related, but they do not produce the same result.

Blocking protects you but may not stop the exchange

Blocking is the safer response when you cannot read an attack in time. It reduces or prevents immediate damage according to the move and your current state, but the opponent may continue attacking. Holding a defensive input throughout a long sequence can also leave you passive, trapped against a wall, or vulnerable to a guard-breaking hit. Use the in-game prompt and observe your structure or guard feedback rather than assuming every strike is fully absorbed.

Deflecting depends on impact timing

A deflect is a precisely timed defensive input at the moment an attack lands. It can interrupt the opponent’s rhythm and improve your position compared with simply holding block. The window varies by attack, so learn the timing from the animation and sound cues in Training Room lessons. A missed deflect should be treated as a normal hit risk; do not repeatedly press the input in panic.

Parrying creates a punish opportunity

A parry is the successful outcome you are seeking when the game’s timing and conditions allow it. Sifu’s official guide material specifically discusses how to capitalise on parries to unleash a counterattack. In practice, this means the defensive timing is only half the skill: you must recognise the opening and use the follow-up shown by your version before the opponent recovers.

Because the public mobile listings do not publish button names or sequences, this guide cannot responsibly tell you which corner of the screen to press or which controller button to use. Read the parry and counter prompts in your own build. The timing lesson remains valid regardless of whether you use touch or a physical controller.

A simple parry drill

  1. Enter a Training Room lesson or use the training dummy in the Wuguan if your version presents the lesson there.
  2. Choose one attack with a clear, repeatable impact point.
  3. Defend without counterattacking for several repetitions. Your goal is to identify the exact moment the game registers the parry.
  4. Add the displayed counter input only after the defensive timing is dependable.
  5. Repeat against a different attack. A timing that works for one animation should not be assumed to work for every weapon, enemy, or multi-hit sequence.

Use Focus as a planned resource

Focus is not a free special move. It is a resource that powers Focus attacks, so the useful question is not merely how to activate it but when spending it improves the fight.

Learn the Focus prompt and available attacks

Build Focus until the game displays the Focus prompt, then read the attack choices presented by your version. The mobile listing does not publish a universal touch sequence, and the official mobile listings do not establish one best Focus move for every encounter. Select an option you can reliably reach and understand what it does before spending the resource in a crowded fight.

Spend Focus on a real opening

Use Focus when an opponent is vulnerable, when removing a dangerous target changes the fight, or when the attack gives you a safe way to regain control of space. Triggering it while surrounded can leave other enemies free to hit you if the animation does not protect you. Likewise, spending the resource on a minor target may leave you without it for a stronger enemy moments later.

Build Focus through defensive play

Official patch notes state that a Shrine bonus can affect Focus gain from both avoids and parries. That gives careful defensive timing an additional strategic value: you are not only avoiding damage or creating a counter window, you may also be improving your access to a Focus attack. The exact Shrine choices and their availability depend on the game’s progression, so read the bonus description in your run rather than assuming every Shrine offers the same effect.

Positioning makes defense work

The official game description emphasises careful positioning and use of the environment. Defensive inputs are therefore part of space management, not isolated reactions.

  • Keep enough room to move around an incoming attack instead of backing into a wall.
  • After a successful avoid or parry, check where other enemies are before committing to a counter.
  • Use objects and environmental opportunities when they help separate a group or create a safer angle.
  • Avoid chasing a target into a crowded area merely because a counter prompt appeared.
  • When a fight becomes disorganised, prioritise distance and camera visibility before attempting advanced timing.

The reworked mobile camera is intended to support phone play, but camera comfort is still personal. Adjust your hand position or device angle only if doing so keeps the combat prompts visible and your movement controlled.

Touchscreen versus physical controller

Both options are officially supported at the store-listing level. Neither is proven universally superior, and no specific controller model is officially confirmed.

Consideration Touch controls Physical controller
Availability Built into the mobile game; no accessory required. Requires a compatible controller and a phone that supports its connection method.
Rapid or simultaneous inputs Depends on how comfortably your fingers can reach the displayed controls and keep the screen visible. May feel more familiar for players used to console controls, but comfort varies by controller and hand size.
Screen visibility Fingers can cover part of the display or camera view during a fight. Hands are off the screen, which can make the action easier to see.
Layout customisation Not stated in the official listings; check your installed settings. Remapping and compatibility are not stated in the listings; check the game and operating-system documentation.
Cost and portability No separate control accessory is needed. Costs extra if you do not already own one and adds an item to carry.
Model support Not applicable. No official tested-model list is published; verify compatibility before buying.

If touch controls feel difficult, a physical controller is a reasonable option because the mobile listings advertise full controller support. Check compatibility with your phone, operating system, connection method, and installed game version before purchasing. Do not infer that support for one controller guarantees support for another.

A practical learning sequence

Learning every defensive concept at once makes it hard to identify why you were hit. Use a staged routine:

8Bitdo Ultimate Mobile Gaming Controller for Android devices, White | Bluetooth Mobile Game Controller with Hall Effect Joysticks and Hall Triggers
  • Compatible with Android devices and fits mobile devices ranging from 100mm to 170mm in length.
  • Hall Effect Joysticks and Triggers
  • Refined bumpers and D-pad. Light and tactile.
  • 2 Pro back paddle buttons
  • Profile button. Wear-resistant metal joystick rings. Turbo function.
  1. Read the prompts. Confirm the inputs for movement, block, avoid, deflect, parry, counter, and Focus in your version.
  2. Stabilise basic movement. Practise moving around one opponent without attacking. Learn how much space your character needs.
  3. Add blocking. Hold the displayed defensive input against a predictable attack and observe how your guard or structure changes.
  4. Isolate avoids. Respond to one attack animation at a time. Alternate between moving clear and using the timed avoid so you can feel the difference.
  5. Isolate deflects and parries. Work on the impact timing before adding a counterattack.
  6. Connect the counter. After a successful parry, use the displayed follow-up promptly, then return to a safe position.
  7. Introduce Focus. Build the resource through normal play and defensive successes, select an available Focus attack, and spend it on a deliberate opening.
  8. Practise under pressure. Move from the Training Room to a small encounter, then to a crowded fight. Keep the same priority order: see the attack, choose the defense, check your position, and only then counter or spend Focus.

Common problems and how to correct them

“I cannot find the dodge or parry button.”

Do not assume the action is missing. Reopen the tutorial, control reminders, or settings and look for the terminology used by your build. The public listings do not provide a universal map, so a guide using another platform’s labels may be misleading.

“My avoid works in training but fails in a fight.”

Check whether the incoming move is a different attack, a multi-hit sequence, or an attack that requires another defense. Crowds also change camera visibility and available space. Return to a single opponent and practise the specific animation again before blaming the input.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

“I block successfully but still lose the exchange.”

Blocking is not the same as a parry. It may stop immediate damage without ending the opponent’s sequence. Create space, look for a safer avoid or deflect timing, and avoid holding defense indefinitely against attacks that pressure your guard.

“I parry but miss the counter.”

Watch for the on-screen follow-up prompt and practise the counter as a separate step. A successful defensive timing does not mean the counter can be delayed indefinitely. If several enemies are nearby, first confirm that the opening is safe to use.

“Focus disappears before I use it.”

Focus is a spendable resource, not a permanent state. Build it through normal combat, consider Shrine bonuses that improve gain from avoids or parries, and reserve it for an opening that changes the encounter. Read the exact Shrine description in your run.

“The touchscreen feels too crowded.”

Check whether your version exposes a layout, size, sensitivity, or accessibility option; the storefront descriptions do not promise any of these settings. If no suitable option is available, try a compatible physical controller. Confirm compatibility first rather than buying based on a generic mobile-controller claim.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

What is still undocumented publicly

For the mobile release covered here, the official listings do not establish:

  • Exact touch-button positions, names, or gesture sequences for dodge, avoid, block, deflect, parry, or Focus.
  • Whether touch controls can be moved, resized, or made more sensitive.
  • A recommended touch preset for particular phone sizes.
  • A list of tested Bluetooth, wired, or platform-specific controller models.
  • Whether every controller feature, such as remapping, is exposed in every mobile version.

Treat these as version-specific questions. The control prompts and settings on your device are more reliable than an unlabeled screenshot or a console control chart.

Quick reference for a first session

  • Open the installed game’s control reminders before starting a difficult level.
  • Separate movement away from a strike (dodge) from timed defensive responses (avoid, deflect, or parry).
  • Use blocking when you need a safer response, but remember that it may not end the opponent’s sequence.
  • Practise parry timing and its counter as two linked skills.
  • Build and spend Focus deliberately; a Shrine bonus may increase Focus gain from avoids and parries.
  • Keep space, camera visibility, and nearby enemies in mind after every defensive success.
  • Choose touch or a controller based on your reach, visibility, comfort, and device compatibility—not on an assumed universal best method.
