Siemens Energy has begun preparing to make its Transformation of Industry division a standalone company, while a separate share-buyback tranche of up to €2 billion is set to begin on 24 September 2026. Reuters has reported that Siemens Energy planned to sell most of the division, but the sources available do not establish a completed sale or final terms. The buyback is a group-wide capital-return program; company disclosures do not tie it specifically to steam turbines.
Is Siemens Energy selling its steam turbine business?
Not as a confirmed completed transaction. Siemens Energy’s investor page says preparations began on 25 August 2026 for its Transformation of Industry business to become a standalone company. Separately, Reuters reporting carried by Euronext on that date said Siemens Energy planned to sell most of the division. Those claims describe different levels of certainty: the company confirmed preparations for a standalone business, while the sale plan is Reuters’ reporting.
The available sources do not identify a buyer, establish a final valuation, provide a transaction timetable, or confirm that a sale has been completed. The reviewed reporting describes Transformation of Industry as having €5.7 billion in FY2025 sales and an 11% profit margin; those figures are Reuters’ reporting, not figures independently confirmed in the official company materials cited here. Transformation of Industry includes steam turbines, but it is a broader business. Its review should not be treated as evidence that Siemens Energy is selling only its steam-turbine operations.

How much is Siemens Energy buying back in shares?
The third tranche authorizes Siemens Energy to acquire up to €2 billion of its own shares, subject to a maximum of 50 million shares. It is scheduled to start on 24 September 2026 and must end no later than 31 March 2027. The company says acquired shares may be used for employee share programs or cancelled. How it fits the wider return plan
In its Q2 FY2026 shareholder letter, Siemens Energy described an up-to-€6 billion buyback program through FY2028. The company expected buybacks of up to €3 billion in FY2026 and total FY2026 shareholder returns of approximately €3.6 billion, including dividends. What is driving Siemens Energy’s operating momentum?
The company’s disclosures point to broader group demand rather than a steam-turbine-specific catalyst. Its Q1 FY2026 release described strong demand in gas turbines and grid technologies, and said those businesses contributed significantly to overall performance. The release also noted early signs of a modest improvement in the wind business.

They offer reasons for a constructive market interpretation, but do not prove that buyers control the shares or that the stock is attractive at any particular price. The standalone preparations indicate a strategic change under consideration, while the buyback signals an intention to return capital. At the same time, the reported sale remains unconfirmed as a completed transaction, the tranche’s maximum is not actual spending, and the FY2026 return figures are expectations.

Nor should the division review be conflated with the group’s performance. The operating momentum described by Siemens Energy centers on gas turbines and grid technologies, alongside early improvement in wind. The available disclosures do not say that steam turbines are financing the buyback or driving overall results.
