Short answer: Siam Cement Public Company Limited (SCG) is a diversified industrial holding company, while PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (PTTGC, or GC) is PTT Group’s chemicals flagship. SCG therefore spreads exposure across cement, packaging, chemicals, logistics, energy and other businesses; PTTGC is more directly tied to petrochemical spreads, feedstock costs and the global chemical cycle. SCG has published audited FY2025 figures, but the PTTGC material available for this comparison is a January 2026 strategy and financing update rather than audited FY2025 statements. That means you can compare business models and risk exposure now, but not declare a financial winner from matched revenue, profit or leverage data.

The essential difference between SCG and PTTGC

SCG describes itself as a holding company established in December 1913. Its current business overview includes Cement and Green Solutions, SCG Chemicals (SCGC), SCG Packaging (SCGP), Cleanergy, Decor, Logistics and other investments. Calling SCG a cement company alone misses most of the portfolio and can lead to the wrong risk assessment.

PTTGC describes itself as PTT Group’s chemical flagship. Its earnings are consequently more dependent on petrochemical production volumes, product prices, industry spreads, feedstock availability, energy costs and global economic conditions. Its January 2026 corporate update says the petrochemical industry and the global economy faced significant challenges and outlines optimization, efficiency, digital tools, debt reduction and feedstock-security measures.

For an investor or analyst, the comparison is therefore not “which cement producer is better?” It is a choice between a broad industrial portfolio and a more concentrated chemicals exposure. The appropriate financial test is a same-period, same-definition comparison of segment margins, cash flow, debt and capital allocation. That matched PTTGC dataset is not included in the available evidence.

How each company makes money

SCG: several industrial earnings engines

SCG’s holding-company structure allows earnings to come from businesses with different demand drivers:

  • Cement and Green Solutions: construction materials and solutions linked to building activity, infrastructure and sustainability-related products.
  • SCG Chemicals (SCGC): chemical products whose results depend on petrochemical prices, spreads, feedstock and plant utilization.
  • SCG Packaging (SCGP): packaging products exposed to consumer, industrial and regional manufacturing demand.
  • Cleanergy: clean-energy activities and investments.
  • Decor: decorative and finishing-material businesses.
  • Logistics and other investments: services and holdings that add earnings streams outside core materials production.

Diversification does not eliminate cyclicality. SCG still has a sizeable chemicals operation and remains exposed to construction, energy, currency and trade conditions. It can, however, offset weakness in one segment with steadier or stronger performance elsewhere more readily than a single-industry company.

PTTGC: an integrated chemicals model

PTTGC’s model centers on petrochemical manufacturing. Revenue and profit are influenced by the prices of chemical products relative to naphtha, gas and other feedstocks; the level of global demand; operating rates; freight and energy costs; and the availability of competitively priced raw materials.

In 2025, PTTGC announced a U.S. ethane-import agreement with deliveries expected to start in 2029. The company says the arrangement is designed to improve feedstock security and flexibility without additional infrastructure investment or significant modifications to existing production systems. Those are management’s stated objectives, not an independently verified result, and the benefits will depend on execution, delivered costs, market spreads and the eventual start-up schedule.

SCG’s FY2025 financial snapshot

The following figures are reported by SCG in Thai baht for the financial years ended 31 December. They are not a matched comparison with PTTGC because audited PTTGC FY2025 figures were not available in the material used for this article.

SCG measure FY2025 FY2024 What the change indicates
Revenue from sales THB 496,925 million THB 511,172 million Down THB 14,247 million, approximately 2.8% year over year
EBITDA THB 51,249 million THB 53,946 million Down approximately 5%, according to SCG
Profit for the year THB 14,075 million THB 6,342 million Higher reported profit, despite lower sales and EBITDA
Net debt THB 280,259 million Not stated in the supplied FY2025 comparison Absolute debt burden must be read alongside cash flow and maturities
Net debt/EBITDA 5.5x reported; 5.1x adjusted Not stated Elevated leverage by the company’s reported measure
Finance cost THB 10,738 million Not stated Interest expense is material to earnings and cash generation
Cash under management THB 52,447 million Not stated Provides liquidity context but does not by itself reduce reported net debt/EBITDA
Capital expenditure and investment THB 30,737 million Not stated Shows continued use of capital while leverage remains significant

SCG’s FY2025 audited disclosure also reports profit attributable to owners of THB 14,075 million and earnings per share of THB 11.73. The FY2025 investor financial overview notes that its profit presentation excludes restructuring expenses and extra items totaling THB 13,307 million. The results release separately discusses restructuring and extra items and an inventory adjustment at SCGC. Those disclosures use different bases, so the reported THB 14,075 million should not be casually relabeled as an “adjusted” profit or combined with the THB 13,307 million figure to create an unofficial earnings measure.

What SCG’s segment figures reveal

SCG’s segment numbers show why consolidated revenue alone is not enough to understand the company.

SCG segment FY2025 sales FY2025 EBITDA FY2025 profit
Cement and Green Solutions THB 82,723 million THB 14,373 million THB 5,827 million
SCG Chemicals THB 209,313 million THB 4,166 million Not stated in the supplied figures
SCG Packaging THB 124,374 million THB 17,226 million Not stated in the supplied figures

SCGC generated the largest sales figure among the three disclosed segments but a much smaller EBITDA figure than Packaging or Cement and Green Solutions. That pattern is consistent with the thinner, more volatile margins associated with a difficult chemicals cycle, although a full conclusion requires segment costs, depreciation, working-capital movements and the company’s exact segment definitions.

Packaging’s EBITDA of THB 17,226 million exceeded the EBITDA reported for Cement and Green Solutions, despite lower sales. This illustrates how business mix and margin quality matter more than revenue scale. Cement and Green Solutions contributed THB 5,827 million of profit, but comparable profit figures for the other two segments are not provided here.

Why SCG’s 2025 results need careful interpretation

Sales and EBITDA fell

SCG reported lower revenue from sales and a 5% year-over-year decline in EBITDA. The company attributed pressure to restructuring and extra items, an inventory adjustment at SCGC and baht appreciation. Currency movements can affect translated revenue, export competitiveness and the baht value of foreign earnings, while inventory adjustments can move chemical-segment results independently of current-period shipments.

Reported profit increased

Profit for the year rose from THB 6,342 million in FY2024 to THB 14,075 million in FY2025 even though EBITDA declined. The gap means that net profit was affected by items below EBITDA, including the company’s disclosed restructuring, extra items, inventory effects, finance costs and other non-operating factors. The correct reading is not that operating performance improved across the board; it is that consolidated reported profit and operating EBITDA moved in different directions.

Leverage limits flexibility

SCG reported net debt of THB 280,259 million and net debt/EBITDA of 5.5x, or 5.1x on an adjusted basis. It also reported THB 10,738 million of finance cost, THB 52,447 million of cash under management and THB 30,737 million of capital expenditure and investment. A 5.5x ratio leaves less room for a prolonged downturn than a low-leverage balance sheet would, particularly when chemical margins are weak and large projects require funding.

What the January 2026 PTTGC update does—and does not—show

The available PTTGC source is a January 2026 strategy and financing update, not audited FY2025 financial statements. It therefore supports a qualitative assessment of priorities and funding actions, but it does not establish PTTGC’s FY2025 revenue, EBITDA, profit, net debt, interest cost, cash flow or leverage on a basis that can be compared with SCG.

Management’s operating response

PTTGC says it is pursuing holistic optimization, higher plant efficiency, operational technology, digital maintenance and pricing tools. These actions are intended to improve resilience in a difficult petrochemical market. They should be treated as management actions and intentions; the update does not provide enough audited, same-period evidence to quantify their financial effect.

Financing actions in 2025

PTTGC says it issued USD 1.1 billion of U.S.-dollar-denominated subordinated perpetual debentures and THB 10 billion of baht-denominated subordinated perpetual debentures during 2025. It says proceeds from the dollar issuance support a debt-reduction plan and long-term growth. These instruments provide important financing context, but issuance volume is not a substitute for net debt, debt maturities, interest expense or leverage ratios.

Feedstock security plan

The planned U.S. ethane imports, expected to begin in 2029, are intended to diversify and secure feedstock. The company says no additional infrastructure investment or significant modifications to existing production systems should be required. Until deliveries begin and economics are demonstrated, the agreement remains an execution and market-exposure consideration rather than proven earnings improvement.

Risk comparison: where the exposures differ

Petrochemical-cycle risk

PTTGC has the more direct exposure because chemicals are its defining business. Weak global demand, new capacity, lower product spreads, expensive feedstock or plant outages can affect a large share of group earnings at once. PTTGC’s own January 2026 update characterizes the petrochemical industry as challenging.

SCG is not insulated from this risk: SCGC is a major business and its FY2025 results included an inventory adjustment. However, SCG’s packaging, cement, logistics, energy and other activities provide additional earnings drivers. Diversification can reduce concentration, but it can also make the group harder to analyze because each segment has a different cycle and capital requirement.

Construction and domestic-demand risk

SCG’s Cement and Green Solutions business is sensitive to construction activity, infrastructure spending, property markets and demand in the countries where it operates. A construction slowdown can pressure volumes and pricing even when chemicals are recovering. PTTGC’s chemical focus makes it less directly dependent on cement and building demand, but it remains exposed to broad industrial production and consumer demand through chemical end markets.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Energy and feedstock risk

Both companies can be affected by volatile energy movements, but the mechanism differs. SCG’s FY2025 results release explicitly cites volatile energy movements among external challenges. For PTTGC, feedstock cost and availability are central to chemical margins, which is why the company highlights the planned U.S. ethane supply. A feedstock project can improve flexibility only if delivered economics, logistics and plant compatibility work as planned.

Trade-policy and currency risk

SCG identifies global and domestic economic uncertainty and trade policies as external challenges, alongside energy volatility. Its FY2025 discussion also cites baht appreciation. PTTGC’s international chemical sales and U.S.-dollar financing create their own currency and trade sensitivities. The direction of benefit or harm depends on currency matching, export destinations, debt denomination and local costs; a company cannot be ranked on currency exposure from revenue geography alone.

Execution and restructuring risk

SCG’s 2025 disclosures include restructuring and extra items, so investors need to distinguish recurring operating earnings from one-time or unusual charges. PTTGC’s optimization program, digital initiatives, debt reduction and 2029 feedstock plan all carry execution risk. Announced initiatives should not be valued as completed benefits until operating results and cash flows confirm them.

Balance-sheet and capital-allocation comparison

SCG provides explicit FY2025 leverage numbers: THB 280,259 million of net debt and net debt/EBITDA of 5.5x reported, or 5.1x adjusted. Those figures indicate a balance sheet that deserves close attention to refinancing, interest costs, asset sales, dividends and capital spending. SCG’s THB 30,737 million of FY2025 capital expenditure and investment shows that the group continued allocating capital while carrying substantial net debt.

PTTGC’s disclosed perpetual-debenture issues indicate active balance-sheet management, but they do not reveal whether leverage is higher or lower than SCG’s. Subordinated perpetual securities may receive different accounting and credit treatment from conventional debt, and the practical burden depends on coupon, call terms, cash interest and the rest of the maturity schedule. A proper comparison requires PTTGC’s audited statements and debt notes.

Dividends, acquisitions, restructuring costs and maintenance spending should also be compared on the same period. A company can report accounting profit while generating weak free cash flow if working capital rises or capital expenditure is heavy. Conversely, an inventory adjustment can depress one period without representing a permanent cash loss. Cash-flow statements and notes are essential before making a valuation or dividend decision.

How to make an apples-to-apples comparison

Use the following sequence when both companies’ full filings are available:

  1. Align the reporting period: use the same fiscal year or trailing twelve-month period and record each company’s reporting date.
  2. Map business mix: separate SCG’s Cement and Green Solutions, SCGC, Packaging and other businesses from PTTGC’s chemical chains and associated activities.
  3. Compare revenue and EBITDA by segment: calculate each segment’s EBITDA margin rather than relying on consolidated sales.
  4. Reconcile earnings definitions: show reported profit, management’s adjusted figure and every restructuring, inventory or exceptional item used in the reconciliation.
  5. Measure cash generation: compare operating cash flow, maintenance capital expenditure, growth investment and free cash flow.
  6. Review debt quality: list gross debt, cash, net debt, maturities, currencies, floating-rate exposure, interest cost and covenant headroom.
  7. Test downside sensitivity: examine what happens if chemical spreads, construction volumes, energy prices, exchange rates or trade restrictions move against the company.
  8. Assess capital allocation: compare dividends, acquisitions, disposals, restructuring spending and debt reduction rather than treating accounting profit as the only outcome.
  9. Use a common market date for valuation: share prices, enterprise value, price-to-earnings and EV/EBITDA multiples must be captured on the same date. No such market-valuation dataset is established here.

Which company is more exposed to petrochemical-cycle risk?

PTTGC is more exposed on a group-wide basis because petrochemicals are its core identity and the company’s own strategy update is centered on industry conditions, plant optimization and feedstock security. SCG has meaningful chemical exposure through SCGC, but its packaging, cement, clean-energy, decor, logistics and other holdings create a broader earnings base.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

That conclusion is about concentration, not expected share performance. SCG’s diversification may lower single-cycle dependence, yet its reported 5.5x net debt/EBITDA and THB 10,738 million finance cost create financial sensitivity of their own. PTTGC’s financing actions may improve flexibility, but the available update does not prove that its leverage or profitability is better.

What the evidence supports—and what remains unanswered

The evidence supports a clear qualitative distinction and a detailed SCG FY2025 profile. It does not support a ranked conclusion on total return, valuation, profitability, debt safety or dividend attractiveness. Those judgments require PTTGC’s audited FY2025 statements, segment notes, debt schedule, cash-flow statement and a common-date share-price dataset.

Before relying on a numeric comparison, verify:

  • Whether both companies report the same fiscal period and use comparable accounting definitions.
  • PTTGC’s FY2025 revenue, EBITDA, profit, net debt, cash, interest expense and leverage.
  • The precise treatment of SCG’s restructuring expenses, extra items and SCGC inventory adjustment.
  • Each company’s debt maturities, currency mix, interest rates and refinancing plans.
  • Cash flow after maintenance and growth capital expenditure.
  • The start date, contractual terms and realized economics of PTTGC’s planned ethane imports.
  • Market prices and valuation multiples captured on the same date and in the same currency convention.

Bottom line

SCG is the broader, more diversified industrial portfolio; PTTGC is the more concentrated petrochemical exposure. SCG’s FY2025 numbers show lower sales and EBITDA, higher reported profit, and elevated leverage of 5.5x net debt/EBITDA (5.1x adjusted). PTTGC’s January 2026 update shows management responding to a difficult chemical cycle through optimization, financing and a planned 2029 ethane-supply arrangement, but it does not provide matched audited financials. The defensible conclusion is therefore qualitative: choose the comparison framework that fits your risk question, and do not label either company the financial winner until their same-period statements are aligned.
