Yes. To show the same program on two TVs, connect the cable box’s HDMI output to a compatible 1-in-2-out HDMI splitter, then connect one splitter output to each TV. Both screens will show the box’s selected channel. If you want different channels or independent controls in each room, ask your provider about an additional authorized box or multi-room service; a splitter cannot create a second viewing endpoint.

How to show the same cable channel on two TVs
- Check that the cable box has an HDMI OUT port and both TVs have HDMI inputs. Samsung’s TV connection instructions describe connecting the box’s HDMI OUT to a TV and selecting the matching source.
- Connect the cable box’s HDMI OUT to the splitter’s HDMI IN.
- Connect a separate HDMI cable from each splitter output to an HDMI input on each TV.
- Turn on the cable box, splitter, and TVs. Select the HDMI input used on each TV.
- Choose a channel on the cable box and check both screens. The cable box remote changes the program on both TVs.
Check compatibility before buying or installing a splitter. The box, splitter, both TV inputs, cables, and protected content need to support the intended resolution and copy-protection standard. For content requiring HDCP 2.2, Roku says the devices in the HDMI chain—including a splitter—must support HDCP 2.2. That requirement does not guarantee that a particular combination of devices will work.
Why a coax splitter will not mirror the box’s picture
A coax splitter shares the incoming cable signal from a wall outlet among connected devices. Xfinity’s splitter instructions and Cogeco’s guide to connecting two devices show the wall cable connected to the splitter’s input and device cables connected to its outputs. This is different from splitting the HDMI signal coming out of a cable box.

There is a legacy exception, but it is specific to the equipment and provider: a 2020 Mobius Communications guide for an Amino set-top box describes connecting one TV to the box and a second by coax, tuned to channel 3. It says both TVs will be on the same channel. Do not assume this applies to current cable boxes; many may not provide a compatible modulated coax output. See the Amino box setup guide for that particular arrangement.

How to watch different channels in separate rooms
One cable box selects one program. A splitter duplicates its output rather than adding another tuner. Contact your provider to ask which authorized options are available for your account and service area, such as an additional set-top box, a paired mini box, multi-room DVR service, or a provider app.
Provider options are not interchangeable. Verizon describes its Fios TV One Mini as a paired box and says TVs using multi-room DVR need to connect to a set-top box in its equipment support information. Virgin Media describes additional Stream or Mini boxes for multi-room viewing, while noting that content-provider restrictions can make some content unavailable in another room; see its multi-room guidance. These examples do not establish universal availability, compatibility, or pricing.

Troubleshoot a blank screen or HDCP error
If the splitter setup fails, first simplify the HDMI path. Xfinity’s HDCP troubleshooting guidance recommends connecting the box directly to an HDCP-compatible TV and identifies adapters, receivers, hubs, switches, scalers, and extenders as possible sources of problems.

- Only one TV displays a picture: Connect the box directly to each TV in turn. This helps determine whether the issue follows a display, cable, port, or splitter output.
- Neither TV displays a picture through the splitter: Test the box directly with one TV, then check that the splitter is powered if required, the cables are firmly connected, and the selected TV inputs are correct.
- Protected or 4K content fails: Verify that every device in the chain supports the required HDCP version and resolution. Verizon’s 4K guidance calls for a 4K TV, compatible intermediate receiver or soundbar and ports, an HDMI cable supporting HDCP 2.2, and a set-top box set to 2160p. These are requirements for that setup, not a guarantee that an arbitrary splitter will work.
- The picture is intermittent: Check the cable and port specifications and try a different or shorter HDMI cable, as Xfinity suggests.
