Windows can show the network printers configured on a computer, along with each queue’s Windows port name, device or print-server address, TCP port, protocol, LPR queue, and SNMP status. The most reliable method is to join two sets of data: Win32_Printer identifies which port each printer queue uses, while Win32_TCPIPPrinterPort supplies the address and port details.
These commands inspect printers installed on the selected computer. They do not scan the LAN or discover every reachable printer.
Quick listing with PowerShell
Open PowerShell and run:
Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_Printer |
Select-Object Name, Network, Local, PortName, ServerName, ShareName
This gives you the printer queues and their configured port names. For example, a locally configured queue might use a port named IP_192.168.1.45, while a shared printer may show a UNC connection such as \PrintServerFinance.

Get-Printer
Get-Printer requires no administrator credentials. It lists printers and printer connections installed on the local computer; it is not a network discovery command.
Show each printer with its IP address and TCP port
Use this command when you need one row per installed printer associated with a standard TCP/IP port:
$tcpPorts = Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_TCPIPPrinterPort
Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_Printer |
ForEach-Object {
$printer = $_
$port = $tcpPorts | Where-Object Name -EQ $printer.PortName
if ($port) {
[pscustomobject]@{
PrinterName = $printer.Name
PortName = $printer.PortName
IPAddress = $port.HostAddress
PortNumber = $port.PortNumber
Protocol = switch ($port.Protocol) {
1 { 'RAW' }
2 { 'LPR' }
default { "Unknown ($($port.Protocol))" }
}
Queue = $port.Queue
SNMPEnabled = $port.SNMPEnabled
}
}
} |
Format-Table -AutoSize
The important match is:
Win32_Printer.PortName = Win32_TCPIPPrinterPort.Name
A typical result might look like this:
| PrinterName | PortName | IPAddress | PortNumber | Protocol | Queue | SNMPEnabled |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Accounts Laser | IP_10.2.3.4 | 10.2.3.4 | 9100 | RAW | True | |
| Warehouse Printer | PRN-WH | 10.2.3.20 | 515 | LPR | False |
RAW is represented by protocol value 1, and LPR by value 2. RAW printing commonly uses TCP port 9100; LPR commonly uses TCP port 515, although the configured value is the one shown by the command.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesExport the listing to CSV
To open the results in Excel or retain an inventory file, replace the final formatting pipeline with Export-Csv:
$tcpPorts = Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_TCPIPPrinterPort
Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_Printer |
ForEach-Object {
$printer = $_
$port = $tcpPorts | Where-Object Name -EQ $printer.PortName
if ($port) {
[pscustomobject]@{
PrinterName = $printer.Name
PortName = $printer.PortName
IPAddress = $port.HostAddress
PortNumber = $port.PortNumber
Protocol = switch ($port.Protocol) {
1 { 'RAW' }
2 { 'LPR' }
default { "Unknown ($($port.Protocol))" }
}
Queue = $port.Queue
SNMPEnabled = $port.SNMPEnabled
}
}
} |
Export-Csv -Path .network-printers.csv -NoTypeInformation
The file is created in PowerShell’s current directory. Run Get-Location first if you need to check where that is.

List the installed TCP/IP ports with Command Prompt
Windows includes the prnport script for listing standard TCP/IP printer ports. In Command Prompt, run:
cscript "%WINDIR%System32printing_Admin_Scriptsen-USprnport" -l
This reports TCP/IP port objects, not printer queues. It can show the port name, host address, protocol, TCP port, queue, and SNMP-related settings, but it does not by itself tell you which printer queue uses each port.
On a localized Windows installation, the script directory may not be en-US. The directory is under:
%WINDIR%System32printing_Admin_Scripts<language>
Substitute the language directory installed on that computer if the English path does not exist.
Inspect ports on a remote print server

cscript "%WINDIR%System32printing_Admin_Scriptsen-USprnport" -l -s Server1
For a PowerShell query, use the computer parameter on the PrintManagement cmdlets:
Recommended Free Tools
Get-Printer -ComputerName Server1
Get-PrinterPort -ComputerName Server1
The first command retrieves printer queues from Server1; the second retrieves its installed printer-port objects. Remote access can still fail because of firewall rules, print-service availability, CIM/WMI remoting, or permissions. The presence of a -ComputerName parameter does not bypass those connectivity requirements.
Why some printers are missing from the IP-address report
The joined PowerShell report deliberately emits only printers whose PortName matches a Win32_TCPIPPrinterPort.Name. That excludes several legitimate printer types:
| Printer or port type | What to expect |
|---|---|
| Shared printer | The port may be a UNC path such as \PrintServerShareName. Report ServerName and ShareName; do not invent a device IP. |
| WSD | It is not represented as a standard TCP/IP port with HostAddress and PortNumber. |
| USB | It has no network address or TCP port. |
| FILE: | Output is directed to a file rather than a network printer. |
| Microsoft virtual printer | It normally has no physical network endpoint. |
To include every installed queue in an inventory, first export the printer properties separately:
Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_Printer |
Select-Object Name, Network, Local, PortName, ServerName, ShareName |
Export-Csv -Path .all-printers.csv -NoTypeInformation
If a printer uses a shared queue, its configured address may identify the print server rather than the physical printer. Likewise, multiple printer queues can use the same TCP/IP port, so a port listing alone cannot establish a one-to-one printer-to-IP relationship.

RAW, LPR, and SNMP details
For standard TCP/IP ports, the relevant properties are:
- Name: the Windows-configured port name.
- HostAddress: the printer or print-server address.
- PortNumber: the TCP port used by the port monitor.
- Protocol:
1for RAW or2for LPR. - Queue: the LPR queue name.
- SNMPEnabled: whether SNMP status monitoring is enabled.
Do not assume that every printer accepts RAW on port 9100. Some devices support only LPR, and LPR/LPD is deprecated in Windows documentation even though it remains present in many printer environments. The configured protocol and port in the report are the values to troubleshoot.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Do not use the old WMIC example
You may still find this command in older guides:
wmic printer get name,portname
WMIC, the command-line utility, is deprecated and is scheduled for removal in a future Windows release. WMI itself is not the issue; use PowerShell’s CIM commands instead:
Get-CimInstance -ClassName Win32_Printer |
Select-Object Name, PortName
Use Get-Printer for a straightforward queue listing, and the Win32_Printer plus Win32_TCPIPPrinterPort join when you need the actual configured address and port.
FAQ
Does Get-Printer discover every printer on my network?
No. It lists printers and printer connections installed on the computer being queried. It does not scan the LAN for reachable printers.

Why does the report show a printer but no IP address?
The queue may use a shared UNC connection, WSD, USB, FILE:, or another non-standard-TCP/IP port. Check its PortName, ServerName, and ShareName with Win32_Printer.
Is the HostAddress always the printer’s physical IP address?
No. For a queue connected through a network print server, HostAddress can identify the print server rather than the physical printer.
Can two printers have the same IP address in the output?
Yes. Multiple queues can use the same configured TCP/IP port. Join the printer and port objects to see the association, but do not assume each queue has a unique endpoint.

It lists standard TCP/IP printer-port objects. It does not provide the queue-to-port association by itself.
Do these commands require administrator rights?
Get-Printer and Get-PrinterPort are documented as requiring no administrator credentials. Remote queries may nevertheless be blocked by permissions, firewall settings, remoting configuration, or an unavailable target computer.
The Bottom Line
For a useful printer-to-endpoint inventory, query Win32_Printer, query Win32_TCPIPPrinterPort, and match the printer’s PortName to the port object’s Name. This reveals the configured address, TCP port, protocol, LPR queue, and SNMP state without confusing shared, USB, WSD, and virtual printers with network TCP/IP queues.
